Blanch Langham and husband, Charles Lewis are in my line. Why can I not find this picture at the link you posted? I went to Tarrant County TX, and found Moore Cemetery. There is only a Preston Langham and wife. That is the only Langhams there. What am I doing wrong. I certainly do want this picture in my database.

Searching for Mother's maiden name - Effie (King) Langham

I'm searching for the maiden name of my great-great grandmother. I know from my father that her name was Etta (or possibly Edna), she is listed on the 1910 Census for Precinct 15, Chilton, Alabama as "Etner". She married Joseph F. King sometime before 1892 and had 8 children that I have names for and am certain of: *Elsa (Elssie) Viola b. 1892 (my great grandmother; married a DeRamus), Robert Worthy b. 1896, Melvin b. 1897, *Aezareen b. 1903 (married a *McKinley), *Olivia b. 1905, Alford (or Alfred?) b. 1906, *Lula b.1908, & *Effie G. b.1914 (married Orton (or Orten) Langham). Names with a * I am 100% certain are accurate.

If anyone has any information at all, I would love to hear from you. Reply to joyce.jegen@sbcglobal.net

Thank you in advance for any help you have to offer!

That's him! Early in the census records he goes by Thomas and his wife Ann. The last census I find him in he's going by Thomas. I have NEVER found a record for Padgett being his middle name! However, I'm sure Uncle Floyd and others had to have gotten it from somewhere. Uncle Floyd wasn't the type to just "stick" a name in there! And I've never found proof that his mother is actually a Padgett. However there are "Paget's" that show up on the early census records. Actually it seems like they a within 6 names, (households) before James Thomas. So the possibility is there. Plus, I know "old timers" used "oral" family history as fact. Which if I had one of the "old timer's" to tell me personally, I'd take it to the bank also!

Sherry
Mobile, Al

James Thomas Langham/Nancy Ann Smith

Hello All, I've just racked my brains and proved a great, great grandmother, (after years of searching!) and of course it's lead me to another brickwall. James Thomas Langham married Nancy Ann Smith. Years after their death a lady shows up in one of their son's household as his Aunt, after tracing the Spinster aunt backwards, I finally proved Nancy's parentage, ( with a Smith name that's an accomplishment by itself!). Anyway, Nancy's parents are Tryon and Mary. I found a couple of references as Mary's maiden name being Devane, daughter of George Devane and Mariam Treadwell, (Mariam is also the spinster aunt's name!).

I find Tryon in Bladen County, North Carolina in 1800, 1810 and 1820. 1830 he disappears, then reappears in Monroe County, Alabama for the years 1840 and 1850. The 1850 census gives his year of birth as 1770 and Mary's as about 1785. Mary and Mariam show up in her son's home in 1860 by which time Tryon's dead. By 1870 Mary is dead.

Has anyone ran across this family? If anyone can even give me a hint of where to go to now, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Also, does ANYONE have proof of Elias being James Thomas' father? My greatuncle started this tree MANY years ago, and that's who I always assumed as James Thomas' father, (because Uncle Floyd said so!). But I can't find documentation to back it up!!

Thanks in advance!
Sherry
Mobile, Alabama

Well, yeah. I'm with you on most of your names and dates. But, I do still have some questions. I hope that you can answer them.
1- How did you come up with the name Martha as the wife of James Elias, born 1763? I have Elizabeth Ann Martin as his wife, and 9 children.
2- Same question on Elias G, born 1789? I could never narrow down a given name for that Padgett. Where did you find that? Plus, he was married three times, at least, and had 8 children total. That Unknonwn Padgett, Nancy Ann Smith, and Mary Ann Surname unknown. Is that your Mary Ann Padgett??
3- For Elias Thomas, born 1789, you have his wife as Eliza Blair. Where did you find her name?
If you could site some sources for me, and point me in a direction, I'd be appreciative.
Thanks,
Carlette
carlette@mail.com

I have a John Madison Langham in my line b. 1814. Is this the John M of whom you write? If so, I would like to correspond with you. I have no info on who John married or who his children were. But I have his Langham ancestors for a ways back. Are you interested? I'd love to share & compare info with you. My John M Langham IS the son of James Langham and Elizabeth Martin. I also found James W, Samuel H & Thomas Frances to be sons of James & Elizabeth. I found Jane & Martha Ann to be their daughters, but found no Mary or Mary Ann, that you mention. Please write to me dozenelk@hotmail.com and I will send you more info.

Thank you for your help, Caren. Hope to check the Hart Cemetery in the near future. We're in Baldwin...not too far away.

Have some info that may help you as well. We've found our Josephine with her grandparents, John M. and Maria/Mariah Langham (nee Hathcock)(m. 06/10/1851 Baldwin Co., Al.) of Monroe & Baldwin Counties in Alabama as well as Santa Rosa County, Florida. Believe John M. Langham's first wife's maiden name was Mittner (Upson, Ga.).

The following information was found on Conecuh County and Monroe County Court Pension Declarations by Elizabeth Martin Langham Goldsby: John M. Langham's parents were James Langham (d. Oct. 28, 1829 Upson, Ga.) and Elizabeth Martin of Jasper and Upson Counties Georgia (m. 07/24/1808 by JOP). James & Elizabeth's children were James W. Langham, John M. Langham, Samuel H. Langham, Thomas T. Langham (mistranscribed as Thomas L. Langham and Thomas L. Laugham on census), Mary Ann Langham, Jane Langham, and Martha Ann Langham. Elizabeth was later a widow of Elijah Goldsby (2 children).

Believe, but not certain, that James' brothers were Thomas and Walker D. Langham who settled in Newton, Texas...

Hope this helps you in some way. Will be happy to send you copies of the above documents.
Ginny
I have been trying to find the parents of my great great grandmother, Malissa Langham. According to the information I found on the 1870 census of Arkansas County Arkansa she was born in Miss. The census lists her as a widow with my great grandmother, Sarah Bright. Next to her lived a widowed Elias Langham and his daughter Alice. a few pages in the same census I found a Green Langrum born about 1819 in Miss and his wife Opha born about 1819 in Virginia. I assumed they may have been the parents of Malissa and Elias. In that same census I found a Waid Langham living in a near by boarding house. He was around the same age as Malissa and Elias, maybe another brother? I have not found any other census that would tie them together. I did find a Green Langham married to Aughpha in the 1860 census of Scott County Mississsippi. It also listed them as being born about 1819 and the wife in Virgnia. I would like to get with you and compare notes to see if maybe my Malissa Langham may be part of your Langham family. Please contact me at thunt1157@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Teresa

Sherry,
I have several James Thomas Langhams in my data. About 6 Elias Langhams. Several Elias Langhams have a son named James. Some even a James Thomas. But I have no Nancy Smith married to any of the James Thomas Langhams, although some are still blank for me. I do, however, have a Nancy Smith married to a Thomas Padgett Langham. And your posting causes me to wonder if I have that wrong. Please tell me the names of the children of your James Thomas Langham, so I can see if I have yours in my line, or any lateral lines in my data.
Fairly complete family tree on genes reunited. My great grandfather was George Langham (Nats Nephew) who witnessed his death certificate. Nat - first name Stephen was brother to Georges mother - Ann, their mother was Possibly Mary Langham born about 1787 married to a Nathaniel Langham - all looks a bit dodgy though as my old family bible says parent were a Joseph Langham and Mary Ashby. Can put you in touch with Nats direct decendants if not known to you

Think you will find most Langhams originated England - majority from Leicestershire - 1891 map of surnames reflect this with a number from London. Name based on where people came from - Langham in Rutland the obvious one. Suspect one of London Langhams ended up in America

Found your info on Ancestry and would like to exchange info on the Osbornes. My line is the same as yours it seems.I went to Wise, Virginia and bought a book on the Osborns and Powers. I will share what I have. I am interested in the Langham line as I don't have much info on them.
Re: the TRUE langham origin

Hi I am in the smae boat as you, I have been wanting to find out where my heritage began, I am from louisiana, and my research has pulled the same information. Stating that the bulk of the family is migrated from Ireland and the UK (london)I know that there is a bit of German somewhere in the tree, but I'm still searching, My grandfather is in the process of sending me documents that go quite a ways back into our tree but i am not sure of the dates, he also said that he has the family coat of arms. I will let you know when I get more information.

Re: Walter Cook Langham

Do you know anything about William Cook Langham?

Who I think is his son Henry is living with members of the Lepine family in the 1851 census with relationship stated as uncle and nephew.

Henry Langham birth on IGI was 22 AUG 1821 with Christening
on 06 MAY 1832 at Saint Giles Cripplegate, London. The 1851 census confirms he was born around 1822 in City Cripplate so this looks right.

However another baptism according to the IGI is 07 OCT 1821 at St Sepulchre, London so he may hae, forwhatever reason have been baptised twice.

I am trying to find the family link between the Lanhams and the Lepines and assume it must have been through William's wife Sarah but I can't find their marriage. Do you know it and what her maiden name was?

Kind regards,
Jon
