I wanted to share a photo of John Henry Langley (1881-1970), who lived in Grayson Co. KY and Louisville, KY. He was the son of James Langley and Annie Melvina Mulhall Langley. He is on the right in the photo. I was told the man on the left was his brother, maybe Ken Langley or Ed Langley, but not sure. Maybe someone can identify? John Henry Langley was married 1st to Josephine Pearl, then Angela May Back Monks.

Langley - Australia/England

Hi there,

My name is Allan Langley from Australia and I'm writing on behalf of my father John Henry Langley.

I just happened to be doing an internet search and came across the ancestory.com.au website and thought that I would make contact on the off chance that someone may have come across some information on my fathers and aunts family whilst doing family research.

I apologise for any imposition this might cause but as my father and his sister were left by their mother and father as very young children to be raised by their grandmother, they were never given any information about their parents and subsequent to this have no idea as to their family lineage & ties.

The only information that I can provide you is that my grandfathers name was Henry William Langley (believed to be from England) who was aged 24 at the time of my fathers birth 4/12/1930 my grandmothers name was Lucy (previous surname Rushborne) who was 22 years of age at the time of my fathers birth.
My father and his sister were born and raised in the town of Glen Innes NSW Australia.

As you might have already guessed my father and his sister are starting to get on a little bit in their lives and one of the main reasons I'm trying to do this is because the whole episode has left a big hole and a lot of unanswered questions which for obvious reasons would be nice to get some resolution and finality to.

Even if you are not able to help with any information you might be able to steer us in the right direction.

Thanking you in advance for any assistance or any help that you might or may be able to provide.

Kind regards and thanks for any help.
Allan Langley.
I am trying to find info on Carrie R. Langley b. Oct. 1881 in Henderson Co., Ky. I have her on a 1900 Census living with her Mother Virginia (Virgie) and her Step Father ? Hays. I was able to view an immiage of the origional census and could not make out his first name. They were both listed as widowed and had been married 6 yrs. I would like to also locate Virginia's maiden name.

Carrie married an Oldham in Henderson and had a child in 1905 named Carroll Langley Oldham. He is shown in both the 1910 and 1920 census loving with an Aunt and Uncle in Henderson Co., Ky.

William Langley (1848) - Music Hall connections

Music hall artiste, stage manager and set painter (depending on the census), I'd like to find anyone with a connection to Wm Langley.

His daughter Louisa Beatrice Harriet married Henry Norman in 1911 in Holborn and I've got a strong family link to any children/grandchildren they may have had.

The family moved around a lot although I believe Wm was born in Rochester, Kent and his wife Emma ?Kingsland was from Gravesend. Apart from Louisa, their children were:

Wm GJ Langley (1866 Sandgate)
Emma Langley (1870 Dover or Coventry)
Annie Elizabeth Langley (1875 Dover)
Robert AJ (1877 Nottingham)
Alfred James F (1881 Hull/Sculcoates)
Edith Jane (1888 Brighton)

Would love to hear from anyone with a connection to any of the above!

Im trying to trace my great great grandfather who is thought to have been born in somerset somewhere, then moved later to Dublin Ireland. There he married a lady called Anne Fitzpatrick and had two sons Robert in 1873 and Samuel in 1875. He or his father used to own a fishing fleet or vessel in the area. My great great grandfathers name was Samuel Langley and was born around 1843 - 1849 maybe. I do not know his age when his sons were born.

Samuel G. Langley of New Hamsphire - Civil War

Hope this helps with research on Samuel G. Langley. Not sure if he fits into my branch...

New Hampshire Sentinel (newspaper)
7 Nov 1861
-------------
The Fifth Regiment of New Hampshire Volunteers is probably now in or near Washington, having left Concord last week, on Tuesday. Gov. Berry, the Secretary of State, Co. Webber of Manchester, one of the Governor's aids, the Governor's two sons, and a few others, accompanied the regiment to Washington. The following are the Regimental officers:
Colonel Edward E. Cross; Liet. Colonel Samuel G. Langley; Major, William W. Cook; Adjutant, Charles Dodd; Quartermaster, E.M. Webber; Surgeon, Luther M. Knight; Ass't Surgeon, J.W. Buckman; Chaplain Elijah R. Wilkins.

The First New Hampshire Battery arrived at New York last Saturday morning, and was thus noticed by the N.Y. Comercial: - They marched down to the Park barracks at eleven o'clock, where a breakfast for the men and officers was prepared. The battery consists of six guns, four of which are rifled ten pounders and two twelve pounder howitsers. A forge and battery wagon and four baggage wagons are attached.
The force of the battery is one hundred and fifty-five men and one hundred and sixty horses. The men and horses are in fine condition, and are splendidly equipped. The battery was organized and fitted out in Manchest, N.H., since the 16th of August. They are ordered to report to General McClellan, and are expected to form a portion of General Butler's division.
The officers are, captain, G.A. Gerrish; first lieutenant, B.F. Edgill; second lieutenant, E.H. Hobbs; third lieutenant, John Wadleigh; fourth lieutenant, H.F. Condict; sargeant, O. Tabor; sargeants, Roberts, Caswell, Stearns, L.S. Piper, Chamberlain and Campbell.

Jeptha & Elizabeth Langley of Franklin co, Arkansas

Hello. I was wondering if anyone out there knows if Jeptha Langley, found living in Prairie, Franklin, AR in 1900 is related in any way to Elizabeth Langley found in Prairie, Franklin, AR in 1870. In 1870 Elizabeth is living with a Harwood, Angeline, and a Jane Langley.

An Elizabeth Langley married a William H. Anderson on 17 Nov. 1872 in Franklin co, AR. My gg-grandfather's name was William H. Anderson, and he is found in 1900 living in Prairie, Franklin, AR, not far from Jeptha Langley... hence the reason I am questioning if Jeptha was related to Elizabeth. Perhaps my gg-grandfather still kept in contact with the Langley family after Elizabeth died?

Thanks in advance for any info regarding Jeptha, Elizabeth, or the Langley families that lived in Franklin co, Arkansas. :-)

Thanks so much for any information.

Here’s the Index of the newly-transcribed 1895 NJ State Census:
http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/list.aspx?dbid=1054

You must either subscribe to Ancestry.com or go use it at a library if you want the full facts; but meanwhile, you can at last get an idea as to which of your critters lived in what county. Be forewarned that they lumped the age groups (20-60, for example).

2. Two volunteers, one for Atlantic and the other from Passaic, fully transcribed their counties:

https://wwwnet1.state.nj.us/DOS/Admin/ArchivesDBPortal/Censu...

I’m sure the State Archives will welcome other volunteers willing to add counties!

3. From the “Nothing’s Perfect Department,” may I comment that I found one group in the Atlantic-only transcriptions that was NOT on the overall index? They were:

Langley, Edwin Atlantic: Atlantic City age 5-20 254
Langley, Ida Atlantic: Atlantic City 5-20 255
Langley, James Atlantic: Atlantic City 5-20 254
Langley, John M. Atlantic: Atlantic City 20-60 254
Langley, Lizzie Atlantic: Atlantic City Other 20-60 254

Another not found in the Ancestry version was:

Langley, Sarah Passaic County : Paterson, 8th Ward
----------------------------

Abbreviations I've used below:  Cam=Camden; Cu=Cumberland; Es=Essex; Glo=Gloucester; Hu=Hunterdon; Me=Mercer; Mo= Morris; Sa=Salem; Un=Union.

(My comments are in parentheses.)

Abbie@Cu; (wf. of William?)
Adelia J@Un;
Agnes@Me;
Albert@Glo;
Albert F@Sa;
Alfred@Me;
Alfred B@Un;
Allen S@Glo;
Almada     (Almeda, wf of John T.?)@Cam;
Ann E@Cu;
Anna J@Sa;
Anna L@Glo;
Anna M@Cam;
Anna M@Glo;
Annie A@Glo;
Arlinda@Cu;
Arthur@Me;
Arthur@Me;
Bertha        (J.
1910 Langley NJ Census

These listings were taken from the Census sheets of Langley members that are in my genealogy. Should you find discrepancies to your information, please note that the listings are taken directly from the census sheet and were reported to the census that way. I have found many times that within a 10 year span (between two Censuses’), a person can age 10+ years or name could be spelled differently. If the name was hard to read, the word (unreadable) will be placed next to it and our best guess at what was recorded is given. Please remember, this information was verbally provided to the census taker.

Hope it helps anyone!

1910 Pittsgrove Township, Salem County 4/25/1910
R.
Hello,

My great aunt recently passed away and I am searching for her family tree genealogy. I don't have a death date but I am estimating her birth to be about 1930. Her name was Curtis Aileen Qualls Langley and I am searching for her parents and brothers and sisters and possibly her children as I would like to connect with cousins I have never meet before. Curt recently passed away on Dec. 20, 2007. Curt lived in Oxford, Alabama and was married to George Langley. Her parents are Will Qualls and Bertha Hogue. Any help is greatly appreciated with this tree because this family is my brick wall trying to find my grandmother's family.

Thank you,

Lori Caudill Wells

My great great grandmother was Sarah Ann Langley. She was born around 1855 and died in 1909 in Saline, Illinois. She married William Scott. I found a census from 1880 that she was born in Tennessee,as were her parents. I would appreciate any help finding out who her parents were.

James Langley of Burton

Beverly.

I typed this info all up just a while ago and when I hit the Preview message, it disappeared. Here goes again.
I have copy of the marriage certificate for James and Lydia Bubar Langley. They were married in Sunbury County on June 16, 1828. Both gave their residence as Burton.

I found them in what is now Caribou on the 1850 Census. Ages then were 45 and 38.
Children listed were: John 17, Margaret 20, James, 14, Moses 13, William 11, Israel 10 (Israel is my great grandfather),Rebecca 6, George 3, Fanny 2, and Nathaniel 1.

James is on the 1871 Census for Canada and living with his son Frederick in Four Falls, but I think it may have been what is called California Settlement, as Frederick had a land grant there

My Langleys used the following names a lot: George, James, John, Israel, and Elizabeth.

I cannot find James death information, but I suspect he died and was buried in Canada.

Does any of this help you? I found Sarah Langley's marriage to Elijah Oltz on the Internet when I discovered James and Lydia. Sarah was from Burton also. I sent a message to the Boards inquiring if Sarah was a sister, as I thought I might find James ino through a sister. I got a reply that said Sarah was a sister and her father was John.

I will try to send this without reviewing it, so I do not lose it again.

Ryth
Searching for info on William Langley (William R. Smith) 1857-1935

I am trying to trace my husbands family tree on his fathers side. We have gotten as far back as his great grandfather, his name was supposably William Langley born March 8 1857 died March 7 1935. He married a woman who was Creek indian her name was supposably Susan Jane Farley. William Langley changed his name in Georgia so we have been told to William R. Smith and had several children (some were born Langley before he changed his name) one child was Will Smith. Somehow a Emma Frances Langley fits into this puzzle. If any of this sounds familiar or you had a ancestor named William Langley who disappeared or changed his name, please e-mail me.
sherrid234@aol.com

The mother of Thomas Jefferson Burges is listed on his death certificate as Susan Langley with her birth place as Wayne County, Mississippi. I am presuming she would have been born during the 1850's as Thomas was born in 1866. Thomas' father is listed as Thomas Frank Loper and according to my mother-in-law Thomas was adopted by a Burges. We don't know the name of the Burges who adopted him. All of Thomas's children are dead except for four of the last five. No one has any records of his. I do have Thomas' second marriage lisence but that is all. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Susan L. Burgess

DOCTOR WILLIAM B. LANGLEY

I have posted messages in the past looking for Cordelia (properly spelled Cornelia) Langley and her spouse, Dr. Wm. B. Langley.

Cornelia's maiden name is Smith. She is the daughter of Colonel Maurice Smith, of Fayette County, TN who moved his daughter and sil, overseers and slaves from TN to Dallas County, AR in 1843.

Co. Smith established a place called Tulip--it was originally a mail stop for that area of AR. (Cutting this short) he brought many relatives from TN. A town was established. By 1860 Tulip was a well known place in AR and very wealthy. The town was ravaged during the Civil War, populations moved away and the town simply died. This informtion from "Tulip in Her Glory", By Herschel Kennon Smith, Jr of Nashville, Tn. and was published in the Arkansas Historical Quarterly.

If anyone here has run across Dr. Wm. Langley in their research, please contact me. I don't believe Dr. Langley was a native of TN. Some census records say born in VA.

NOAH LANGLEY

Dear Leslie, I am responding to your message about Noah Langley. I do not know who the Noah born 1765 is, but I am a direct descendant of John F. Langley and Susannah Dougherty/Daugherty. They were married July 20, 1837, Forsythe co. Georgia. I have their marriage license. When they married, susannah's name was Mcclure. She was the widow of William Mcclure, by whom she had 3 children, James, John and Frances Mcclure. They had a son named Noah, who is the older brother of my 2nd great-grandfather, Zachariah Langley. I have a lot of information on this family. It is very possible your Noah might be a relative. John was born NC,1792. John was married to Sally Parris, about 1813. She gave him 15 children. Sally died about 1835. I believe John also had a brother named Noah. I have the names of his siblings at home. I am at the public library. I do not have a computer at home. Please respond on Langley message board. I will see it. John and Susannah lived in Gilmer co. GA 1850 ON.

Richard H. LANGLEY, Charles County Maryland

Looking for all related info on Richard H. Langley. In the 1850 Federal Census he lists his age as 29 (approx birth year 1821), lists occupation as cabinet maker, living in St. Mary's County, Maryland, states he was born in Charles County. In the 1870 Federal Census he is married to what the data interpreters say is "Serrena" and they are living in Washington, DC, though the written copy looks nothing like her name, he is still a cabinet maker, states his age as 52 (approx birth year 1818). He has children Frances, Mary, Elzebeth, Jessica and "another" Frances. His daughter Mary Jane Langley eventually marries Michele Stanisci (Italian immigrant). Would really like to connect with somebody who has info on this family.
Regards,
John Payne
Milford, Connecticut

New York 1850 Census from Ireland about 1848/49

My ancestors Jefferson W.Taylor married Mary Langley.They are found in the 1850 census in Richmond Co.Augusta, Ga.with children age 10,5&2.So they were m.abt. 1850. Mary is shown bn.in N.Y. In 1860 they are in Savanna, Ga. and Mary is shown born in Ireland. This all fits with a family that I found in N.Y.ward 16 District 1 in the 1850 census. This household had: Hugh Langley, 35; Wife Mary,30;Dainiel,age 17;(I believe this is my Mary,age 17); Amie,14; Cathrine,12; John, 10; Clara,4; Margaret,2 all shown born in Ireland and Hugh age 1 born in N.Y. So they must have arrived around 1848/49. Any connections out there? Cecil McClellan
