Looking to complete our history!

Thanks in advance!!

Marie Clemence Langlois, daughter of Augustin Langlois and Angelique Bourbeau

One of my gr-gr-gr-grandmothers was Marie Clemence Langlois. She married Jean Baptiste Pilette on 25 Nov 1823 at Assumption church in Sandwich, Ontario. According to the church record, her parent's names were Augustin Langlois and Angelique Bourbeau. I can't find Marie Clemence's baptism or her parent's marriage in the Assumption church records, so I guess they were not from that parish. I can't find the parents in the PRDH or "Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region". Are these names familiar to anyone?

I have been banging my head on brick walls trying to find more information on this line of my great grandmother. Actually I am trying to find her mother's like: Marie Louise Cloure. Josephine's father was Alfred Langlois born 1850. Josephine was born in Vercheres Quebec 21 Oct 1873 and died 14 Sept 1930 in Ponteix Sask. Alfred may have remarried to a Marie Alphonsine Rochon on 02/19/1884. But the line I am searching is Marie Louise Cloure. Alfred's parents Henri Langlois born 1825 who married Henriette Chagnon 14 Feb 1848 in Vercheres Quebec.

Marie Louise Cloure's parents may be John Cloure b 1820(?) and Marie Potvin but haven't been able to substantiate that. Please email to smilesonly@shaw.ca

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Langlois of Louisiana connection to Quebec

I am looking for information on the marriage of Auguste Langlois and Marie Louise Baudreau dit Graveline and their connection to the Langloises and Gravelines of Quebec. Their son Antoine was born at Poste des Illinois, Prairie du rocher, Illinois, LA Territory, New France. A daughter Felicite married Charles Lacasse a native of Beaumont near Quebec.
Also records show a Madeleine Graveline at the Detroit Poste. These things lead me to believe that elements of these two families were migrating southward to the Illinois territory. Grand children of Augustin arrived in Opelousas, proably as a result of the transfer of New France to the English in 1763. The Langlois's of Louisiana derive from this lineage.

Raphael VIAU Jr. and Jean Baptiste VIAU, sons of Raphael VIAU Sr. & Florence LEFEBVRE of St. Remi, Napierville Co. Quebec, both married women surnamed LANGLOIS. Probably related to each other, sisters or cousins? I have found only 1 of the 3 marriage records.
Raphael VIAU Jr. married Eulalie [Nellie] LANGLOIS probably 1850's. The 1861 & 1871 Quebec censuses show 7 or 8 children b in Canada, 1857 to 1871. Raphael died in 1872, before or after their move to Malone, Franklin Co. NY. Nellie didn't remarry & died 50 years later, in Malone 15 Aug 1922.
Raphael's brother, Jean Baptiste VIAU [ca. 1834 - 1869] also moved to Malone, married Julie LANGLOIS, who must have died on or before the end of 1868. On 1 Jan 1869, he married Sophia LANGLOIS, who moved to WI, possibly Marinette Co., after he died May 1869. No known children.
The only LANGLOIS information in the VIAU wills & probate files in Franklin Co. Surrogate's Court records are these wives' maiden names.
Hope somebody has info on 1 or or more of these 3 LANGLOIS women.
Happy to exchange information,
Barb Glassel
Langlois/Laugiers/Langiers etal~Luis French Plantation Owner in Santo Domingo

Well, that's quite a title as subject, but really am getting a bit desperate, tho I'm glad to see this forum with some collateral surnames posting. My GGgmtr's Grandparents were French exiles; Huguenot Plantation owners, who's families were lucky to escape, with their lives, when Napoleon lost his campaign to squelch the slave uprisings and lost the French holdings to the US Govm't. My direct line was lucky to leave the island before the conflagration, tho other members weren't so lucky. Many fled to Australia, others to Belgium, Canada and back to Europe. Many different spellings and name usages. My Joseph Gardner (HMS?) married the dtr of the Marquis Louis Raison de la Geneste and wife, the Lady Marie Therese Laugier/Langley/Langlois(Langley?....dtr of Luis, who'd been in the Caribbean probably for quite some time as the Gardners had also headquartered there since the 1600's, in Barbados. Another dtr of Luis Laugier's married a Sebilleau and at least these two women, that I've seen documented, received some monetary relief from their loses in the Caribbean. Joseph and Mary Laugier Gardner went lst back to MA, then down to Greenup KY where they had an INN and over to Barboursville, VA, where they remained. Mary Gardner's sister Louise, married Pierre Anthony Fontaine du Chausenelle, fled to Cuba. Their mother, who'd remarried to a Riodore/o ended up in NOLA, as did the Chausenelles (I keep wondering if Pete Fountain is a cousin (?) We are told, but I haven't seen proof of it, yet. The only actual evidence of final resting places are the tombs of Joseph Gardner and wife Marie Therese Chlotilde Raison de la Raison, in Cabell Co WVa. There is one for John Gardner in the oldest cemetary in NOLA, but that's all I've found on my lines. I don't know of any of the Laugier etal, males who escaped, but one in Australia, but heard they may have gone "back" to New Brunswick (?) Any French Caribbean Islander descendants in the viewing audience? ;)

I am hoping to find out the surname of Alfred Langlois' first wife, Selina born Vermont about 1852. The 1880 census has them listed as follows;
Alfred Langlois 31 b.Can both parents b. Canada
Selina 28 b. VT father b. Can mother b.VT
Ida 6 b. VT
Frank 5 b. VT
Olive 1 b. VT
Alphonus 3 months b. VT

Would seem from this census that Alfred and Selina married around 1873/74. I have found Alfred listed in the 1900 census still at Burlington VT he has remarried, so I wonder if Selina has died? Maybe around 1895?
Census states;
Alfred Langlois b. April 1848 Can
Emma b. July 1862 VT
Ellen b. June 1897 (age 3)

Census says been married 4 years.

Any info on first wife, Selina, appreciated.

Thanks
Janice

I suspect he may be Susan's father.

I'm posting to this forum on possibility that Langless is anglicized version of Langlois.

I checked some on-line family trees and found one logged that identified Abraham Langloss and family of 8 children, including a daughter, Susanne.

Family tree does not provide me with a contact, so I'm hoping someone else who reads this will have information to share.

I have Susan on 1850 census as 42 yrs born in NY - est yob: 1808, site indicates Abraham's daughter Susanne was born 30 Mar 1808. I have Abraham Langless age 87 born in France, est yob: 1863, site indicates he was born abt 1865 in France. Also indicates he died 4 Apr 1851, so it's reasonable to expect him to be living in home of his daughter in 1850.

Abraham's wife was listed as Susanna, b: 30 Aug 1780 - no place of birth provided. In addition to Susanna, other children listed were Henry, Elizah, Marion, Marquis, Abraham, Jeremiah, and Adeline.

I would appreciate any help in confirming or refuting the above information and possible relationships.
Languais surname in Quebec

I am not sure of the spelling of the surname. The family story is that my ancestor, who took the name JOHN HAMILTON, got into a fight with his step father and thought he had killed the man so he fled to the united states and changed his name. He was born May 30 1862 in Canada. The original surname sounded like LONG GA WA(short a). The family was supposed to be from Quebec.
The earliest documentation of this John Hamilton is in Paudling Co, OH for his marriage to Mary Anne Earegood ( Aug 17, 1884 and the birth of their children.(Late 1890's) I have several old photos of him. The lived for awhile in OH, St. Louis, MIchigan, Mesick, MI and then moved to Minnesota. They are both buried in Margie, Minnesota.

In my internet research of Anne Martin, I'm finding two Annes born to Abraham and Marguerite. One married Jacques Ratte and the other married Jean Cote. Were there really two Annes in the family or is one linked incorrectly to the family? Any help would be appreciated!
