George Langston

Columbus Ira Langston was born in Kansas on May 24 1886. At some point his family moved to Arkansas, where, on March 8, 1908, he married Maude Lee Townsley, whose place of birth is unknown. She was born on June 13, 1890.

Shortly after their marriage, Columbus and Maude moved to Oklahoma. It is not known at this time whether all of their children were born in Oklahoma, or if the first two, Glen Howard and Zelma, were born in Arkansas, or elsewhere.

Their third child, Wilma Ellen, was born on May 9, 1912, in Cherokee Co., Oklahoma. The fourth child, Lewis V., was born in 1914, whereabouts unknown. Twins Meredith and Merle, both males, were born on November 11, 1915, in Broken Arrow, Tulsa, OK. Juanita and Calvin were the youngest children, probably born in Oklahoma.

Columbus may have been the son of George Langston and a woman by the name of Martha. His mother might also have been a woman by the name of Katherine Baker. Both parents were born in 1851, George in Louisiana.

Maude's parents are not yet known, but they may have been James Townsley, born in Missouri in about 1852, who married Mary Latch, born in Georgia. This couple lived in Marion Co., Arkansas in 1880, and are listed in the federal census.
They might also have been relate to James.

Columbus had at least two brothers, Andrew, who survived and was living in Oklahoma when Columbus died on December 25, 1960, in Stanislaus Co., CA, and Newt, who may have been William Newton Langston, who died in Oklahoma, and is buried in Broken Arrow. He died in 1970. Newt was probably the youngest of George's children having been born in 1895 (going by Wm. Newton's grave marker).

Maude died on June 19, 1952, in Stanislaus Co., CA, and Columbus remarried, to Sarah Grace Rhoten, in March, 1954.

Jesse M. Langston 1801-1854?

I'm looking for validation of his father and mother. I've seen two different names. One being the popular Asa Langston-Tabitha Davis line and the other, Isaac Langston-Nancy Billingsley on the LDS site.

I think that there are at least two Jesse Langstons who are born several years apart and this may have resulted in a mix up.

I have a transcription from the Langston cemetery in Como, MS and it shows Jesse M. and Martha on a double stone. Martha 23 Jun 1801 - 20 Aug 1859. Some trees have her as Martha Bridges but there were other Marthas who married Langstons.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

I was talking to my sister-in-law, who is sending me her family geneology, Langstons and Crystals, which has the Langstons traced back to 1375 in England, and the Crystals back to I believe the early 1700's or late 1600's.

To anyone researching John Mercer Langston and his family (his daughter married James Carroll Napier) I've recently taken pictures of their headstones and added them to FindAGrave.

I was just wondering if anyone might be able to help me out with this. I have sourced my family tree and I am in the process of trying to join the Sons of the American Revolution. For the Langstons, my line is Elizabeth Isabella Langston>Isaac Newton Langston>Jacob Langston.

Everything I find says that Absalom Langston is Jacob Langston's father. The problem is is that I cannot find anything to verify that. Any help would be appreciated. If you want, feel free to e-mail me at muskiesfan1@aol.com . Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Joe

His household included Lorenia (perhaps Lebby?, wife, 31 years), Bernice Langston (daughter, 9 years), William B. Langston (son, 6 years), Buena Langston (daughter?, 4 years), James Langston (son, 2 yrs. 9 months), and Edith Langston (daughter, 2 months).

Edith is my husband's mother; she married John Clifton Scott from Paxville, SC.
William J. Langston

William J. Langston was my husband's grandfather. He died when my father-in-law was 6 years old, in early 1900. His wife Mary Jane E. Hart Langston died in 1904. Rueben Langston (my f-i-l) said the only information he ever had on his father was that he had run away from home at the age of 16, after an argument with his step-father. They had reportedly been living in Louisiana when he ran away and settled in what was then Madison County, FL. Lafayette County broke away from Madison County. The first records we can find is the 1900 census for Lafayette County, FL, after William had died, where Mary Jane and the 4 children were living with her brother. We have been unable to verify any birth info on William, or info on father and/or mother; or what the step-father's name was. We aren't sure whether William's father or step-father was named Langston. We believe that William was born about 1865-1869 and married Mary Jane Hart about 1888-1889. Wm. & Mary Jane's first child, Mary Susan, was born in 1890. Our oldest son has done DNA sampling, but that has been of little help so far.

If anyone knows anything about the Louisiana connection, we would be very grateful for that info, and would share the descendant info that we have.

LANGSTON in SC, AL, AR, TX

I have Langston's on both side of my family. (1) Anthony Leach was married to Rebecca Langston. Anthony died in Union Co. SC in 1824. The next 3 generations of Leaches were born in AL. My ggrandfather md Emaline L. Colvin in Newton Co. TX 1880 and my grandfather Joseph Hamilton Leach was born in Burkville, TX Newton Co. in 1887. (2)My grandmother married David Montgomery King. Her parents were Hiley Langston and Charles Sexton. Hiley is a descendant of Caleb Langston who was born in KY.
1850 Izard Co., Arkansas census, Union Township:
LANGSTON Martha 48 KY Farmer #344
Miles M. 20 AR Farmer
Wiliam J. 19 AR
Hyley F 17 AR
Ann 12 AR
Peyton 10 AR
RAGSDALE Rebecca 35 KY

As you can see, Hiley was named for the Hiley in this census record. Note that Caleb has died prior to this 1850 census record and this is his widow and children.......and their aunt; Rebecca Ragsdale.
Many of my relatives lived in Izard and Fulton Counties in Northern Arkansas prior to coming to TX. The Kings lived in Oklahoma for a brief time as my youngest Aunt was born there, before they came to TX Note: I am always looking for additions, corrections and connections.
A new pic has just been found of my gpa Jesse.
I loaded it down on my site Southen Generations.
Anyone can see the pics with my approval of your joining.
Please add, or make yourself a photo file of your branch of Langston.
I know there are more pics out there from other family members. I do not know any "Langstons" at all, my family has all passed away, had no connection with the Langston family, due to my gma's divorce from her husband Jesse Langston.
Any informtion or pics o the family, would be helpful.
Thank you....kat

Searching for info on William Langston living with unnamed mother and step-father in Louisiana around the 1860's, 1870's, or 1880's. We have no data on William as to parents names or siblings prior to his marriage in FL. Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Our info states that William ran away from the home of his step-father & mother in LA at the age of 16 and settled in what was Madison County, FL at that time. Lafayette County, FL split from Madison County and then Dixie County later split from Lafayette County in early 1920's. William married Mary Jane E. Hart May 23, 1889 in Lafayette County, FL.
reply to post or e-mail at: sharold@alltel.net
Descendants of Caleb Langston & wife Elizabeth

My GG Grandfather, Samuel Langston, was married in Izard County, Arkansas, in 1853, and was still there at the time of the 1860 census. I am interested in finding out whether there is any connection between him and the orphaned sons of Caleb & Elizabeth Langston who settled in the Izard County area before 1830. A cousin who is also descended from Samuel is a participant in the Langston DNA project, and I am hoping to find a male surnamed Langston who is descended of one of Caleb's orphaned sons, who would be willing to participate as well. I would be willing to pay for the testing. All that's required is that one swab the inside of his mouth and mail the test kit back to the testing company. The web site for the Langston DNA Project is:
http://bellsouthpwp.net/B/o/Boyt-Boyett/Langston/Langston.ht...

I would be grateful for any assistance.
John A. Langston, born abt 1875, of Hamilton Co., IN, lived in DeKalb Co., IN as Supt. of Schools

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “John A. Langston – Carmel, Ind.”, which I would like to get back to family members. Carmel, IN is in Hamilton Co. Also on the back is written “Earlham 1901”; Earlham was a college in Richmond (Wayne Co.) IN, and John looks to be about age 25 or 26 in the photo.

I found John A. Langston in the 1910 census for Union Twp., DeKalb Co., IN, age 35, with wife Mary. His occupation was Supt. of Schools.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to John A. Langston or his family.

Langston/Ogier in Toronto area

I'm looking for any descendants of my great uncle Harry Percy LANGSTON (born 1870 Grantham, Lincolnshire, England) and his wife Babs. Harry was a captain in the British Merchant Navy and moved to Canada (Toronto area?) round about the time of WW1. He died in 1933. He had two children alive in 1943, a son, known as Jack but probably baptised John and a daughter whose married surname was OGIER. Her first name began with the letter 'L' and it may possibly have been Lois.
Would love to make contact. Vivien
