Hey, y'all. Prince Albert was married (last marriage-he died in 1922 in Kankakee, IL if memory serves) to my great-grandmother, Nora Voll, daughter of John and Amelia (Quaglia) Voll. Prince Albert and Nora had three boys and one girl: Frank, Albert, Jesse and Ruth. Only Albert and Ruth had children. Albert married Zilpha Woodrum (my grandfather and grandmother) and they had two children, one boy and one girl, plus Zilpha's son from a previous marriage. Ruth never married, but had one son, Donald, who married and had kids of his own.
I have Nichodemus already, but I have to check my records to see what else I have.
My computer crashed unretrievably in 2006 and so everything is on paper and in storage at my son's house.
I'll get it next time I go and try to piece things back together. I've been off the genealogy track for a while but am getting back into it now.
My next trip to my son's looks like it's going to be the beginning of April. I'll get back to you after that.

Prince Albert Lansaw was married to my great-great-grandmother Alice Belle Bush. They had four children: Harry (b 1877), Lucy May (my great-grandmother, b 1881), Jessie (b 1882), and Arthur J (b 1891). Only Lucy had any children, and she had only one daughter, Gwendolyn June, from Lucy's first marriage to Frank Morrow (b 1881). I would be very interested in learning what you can tell me about Albert Jr and his parents. Also Prince Albert's second and third wives.

Prince Albert Lansaw was married to Alice Belle Bush, from Newport, Indiana, in Vermilion County, Indiana on December 13, 1876. They had four children: Harry (b. 1877), Lucy May (b. 1881), Jessie (b. 1882), and Arthur J (b. 1891). Lucy is the only one of the three who had children, and she had only one, Gwendolyn June (b. 1900), with her first husband, Frank Morrow. Lucy was my great-grandmother. She lived mostly in Danville, Illinois, and across the state line in Indiana. I was interested to learn about Prince Albert's second family, since I wondered what happened to him. Did he divorce Alice to marry Nora?

I can't comment on the relationship with Olympus Lansaw, but I can comment on Paul Lansaw who was a star basketball player at Middletown OH.

I run a website on the history of the University of Kentucky Men's basketball program. I maintain web pages on all UK players. Here is a link to Lansaw's.

http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/Players/Lansaw_P...

It includes his career statistics along with photographs etc.

I have some additional information, such as he was a transfer to Kentucky from Cornell (I've seen reference to him setting a scoring record in the Cleveland Municipal Auditorium while he with Cornell.)

Also, he is listed in the 1951 Kentuckian yearbook as "Paul Liberto Lansaw". I had him listed as a junior during the 1950-51 basketball season, but he was listed as a senior academically. I assume that due to the transfer, he sat out of year and thus took his classes and actually graduated with one year of basketball eligibility remaining. (which apparently was not used since he only played the one year at UK.) Lansaw was one of a few players from Middletown who ended up at UK.

Jon

PS, if anyone has access to an obituary (assuming he died in 1999 which the ss database suggests), I would like to get one.

Thank you for the information. Heres what I know, PA Lansaw married Nora Volls about 1904. They had the following children Albert Leroy 1905, Frankie 1907, Ruth Eleaner date unknown, An Infant in 1910. Direct descendant of this second union have tired to make a definite connection between PA married to Bush and PA married to Volls and I do not know the outcome. To me, Prince Albert Lansaw is too uncommon a name not to be the same person. Two side issues, PA's father was a rounder and had a bad reputation. He once paid a woman $3000.00 stop claiming he had married her. He is also reputed to have a second family. The second issue is way out, but one of PA's cousins was the third wife of a Latter Day Saint(Morman) and ILL was a settling place for Latter Day Saints before the move to Utah.

My great-grandmother was the daughter of Prince Albert Lansaw and Alice Belle Bush, who were married December 13, 1876 in Vermillion Country, Indiana. Harry Lansaw was their first child, born 6 April 1877 in Illinois. My great-grandmother, Lucy May Lansaw, was born 21 August 1881 in Humerick, Vermilion County, Illinois and died June 8, 1961 in Danville, Illinois. Jessie Lansaw, the second daughter, was born 1882 in Humerick, Illinois, died in 1910 and was buried in Lafayette, Indiana. Arthur J Lansaw was born 10 April 1891 in Indiana, and died 29 June 1960 in Orange County, California.
The 1860 census shows a Prince Albert Lansaw living with Henry and Mary Costerman and their children, next door to Albert and Cecilia Lansaw. Alice Belle Bush Lansaw married a second time in 1924. I don't know when PA Lansaw left his first family. I would be interested in learning more about his second family.

Hello Janet, Dave, Joyce, Simone and all the other Landsaw/Lansaw researchers. I had given up researching for awhile, until the other day, a woman emailed me question about Albert and Albert Jr. I gave her what info, I had and suggested that she post a message here. She gave me some info also census records and il. marriages (just names and dates) which suggest that Albert H. may have been married twice and Albert Jr three times(Alice Bush, Allis Bary, & a Nora). Also, in the censuses, there no mention of a son to Albert H. names John, but they do list another son unknown to me until now Nichedemus. And, of course, some other children by these preivously unknown to me marriages. Can anyone help straighten this out for me. Thanks Bill Lansaw

My Lansaw's

Just found out doing research on my crooked family tree some info about Lansaws. I have a Lancey Grant Lansaw who stated he was from KY, marrying a Gertie Johnson sometime in 1894 located in Champaign Co., IL. Later he dropped his Mc and just became Lansaw and then later went by his middle name of Grant. Him & Gertie had two daughters, Francis and Gladys both born in Champaign Co.,IL. Francis born abt 1895 then died about 3 years later. Gladys Lansaw born in 1900 lived until 1937, it looks like entirely in Champaign, IL. Don't know yet when Grant & Gertie died but probably before 1906. Anyone with any clues on where L. G. Lansaw came from KY b. circa 1871 I would like to hear from you. Don't know anything else about his clan, so I welcome any responses. Dave :-)

Hi Janet, the Lansaw's I saw on the Wabash Co. listing were probably some message board. While trying to research the Lansaw's I came across what I believe is a message board and it seemed that everyone had something to say about the Lansaw's. I wish you luck, more than I have had lately in my research. Dave :-)

Dave,
I am not sure if it's the same Albert H., nor am I sure my great-grandfather is his son. I'm in the process of trying to prove that now. I'll keep you posted should I get the proof I seek.
You also mention finding a lot of LANSAWs in Wabash County. What census year was that, please? Or was it not on the census?
Thanks.
Janet

Is this the same Albert H. Lansaw that married a Ms Kimball sometime in 1867? Supposedly he was from either Jefferson or Tazewell Co., IL. I do know that somehow or another he ended up in Pekin, IL but little else. Also looking for Lansaw that married a Gertie Johnson in 1895 in the city of Champaign, IL. Thanks, Dave :-)

In my searchings for Lansaw I found a Albert H. Lansaw in Pekin, IL marrying a Ms Kimball abt 1867 or so. Also noticed that there is considerable Lansaw's in the Wabash Co. listing (IL?). I am also searching for Lansaw's that appeared in Champaign, IL in 1895 marrying a Gertie Johnson, my grandmother (Gladys Lansaw) parents. Does anyone have a clue or information? He married a Gertie Johnson in 1894 they had one daughter a Frances Arnott Lansaw in 1895 but she died in 1898. Then either in 1901 or '02 another daughter Gladys was born in Champaign,IL.. Can't seem to find out anymore information, except he was from KY. I appreciate all responses, Dave :-)

Does this go with what you have?
Our Prince Albert didn't marry my great-grandmother, Nora, until he was in his 40s, so I think he was married before & I think he did have kids.
I'm at work now, so don't have information accessible to check my facts on the kids names. It is possible that Harry is a nickname for Harrison who was the father of Earl. I will have to go back and find out how I came up with Harold and was it an ASSUMation. Bill Lansaw

Albert LANSAW was my Great-Grandfather. I have also found his name spelled both ways (with & without the D).
I have evidence that he MIGHT be the son of Albert H LANDSAW of Wolfe County, KY, but have been unable to conclusively prove it so far, but I am still working on it.
I spoke to Earl via telephone a year or so before his death and he thought his LANDSAWs and mine were cousins, remembering meeting Albert and them concluding they were cousins, but he was not really clear on what the connection was or if they just figured that they must be, with the same last name in such close proximity.
Sorry I can't be of more help. If I find any further information, I will be sure to post it on this board so you'll see it.

My dad's name was Ruben Lansaw. His brother was Garland. This is probably the one you are looking for but I think he has pasted away. there father was Taylor and Grace Lansaw. If you try to find information on the family you will find that somewhere the last name has changed from Landsaw to Lansaw. I saw my dad's birth certificate and it read Ruben Landsaw even though he always spelled it Ruben Lansaw. He has also passed away. He had 10 or 11 brothers and sisters. If you ever want to contact me I can be reached at crlansaw@aol.com

I now know where three members of the Lansaw family of Champaign, IL early 1900's are buried. L. G. Lansaw, G. E. Lansaw, and Frances Arnott are interned in Mt Hope Cemetery. Francis Arnott Lansaw was the oldest child of the couple b. abt 1896, died 1898 in Champaign, IL. Her gravestone says she is the daughter of L. G. Lansaw and G. E. Lansaw. G. E. Lansaw (Johnson) b. 1876 Somer Township to Miles Johnson & Sarah Braten, Gertie as she was commonly known died supposedly in St Louis, MO then buried in Champaign Co. Her obit printed in the May 20, 1904 Champaign Daily Gazette (p.3) lists Gertie as Mrs Grant Lansaw. At the moment don't know when Grant Lansaw died, presumably in Champaign Co. Appreciate any follow ups. Dave :o)

Hi Garth, try this. Garland died 10/17/1997 in Fort Wayne Indiana. Go to fortwayne.com and search for articles over 7 days with just the word 'Lansaw'. You will get several articles but look for the ones dated 10/1997. You will find the teasers obit for that day, but not any usable information unless you are willing to pay a fee. I have been tempted to pay this fee as I believe it will let you view the archives of several Indiana and Illnois newpapers, but I am too cheap. Bill Lansaw

Dear Ruth, thank you for answering my query. Your information will be most helpful in filling in blanks on the Landsaw/Lansaw family tree, but since there have been so many Williams and Johns in the family, it is hard to sort them out. William Landsaw and Elizabeth Murphy Landsaw had four sons: John, Lorenzo, James, and Albert. All these sons were born between 1809 and 1826, which means they would have been over 65 when your grandmother Jesse Mildred Lansaw was born. Therefore, one of them more likely to be her grandfather or greatgrandfather. Of these four son, John named one boy William, Lorenzo named one boy William and another John, James named one boy William, and Albert named one boy William and another John. Please help me get from William and Elizabeth to Jesse Mildred Lansaw. Many Landsaws dropped the d from the name so that is not a problem. Thank you again, Bill Lansaw(Jame's line)
