Classification: Query
Surnames: Lansing
I suspect that this man may be my relative also as my Lansing family lived in that area around that time also.
I have the following names from that same generation who I have no spouses for who were all siblings of my 3rd great grandfather David Lansing. I also have no children's names for his siblings either and it is possible due to the place and date that James could be a nephew of my David.
If James is a nephew to David then these male names are possibilities for the father of James but is just a wild hunch or rather an educated guess: Sanders/Saunders Lansing, Eugene H.(possibly Hungerford) Lansing and Albert Lansing. These brothers had a sister named Catherine b. abt 1841 ; my family bible states that they were all of "Northumberland" which is I believe part of Gansevoort or Vice Versa. I went there recently and both are small villages adjacent to one another. My Lansing family, David Lansing was the son of George Lansing and Harriet Schermerhorn; George's sister Susan Lansing was married to Herman Melville's Uncle Peter Gansevoort after Gansevoort's first wife died. Peter Gansevoort was the son of the famous Gen'l Peter Gansevoort of Fort Stanwix fame next to which stands a statue of the same. Please email me at my above addy and perhaps we can sort this out together. Elizabeth Lansing
