Where did the Lares enter the country?

I've been trying to figure out when, where and freom where the Lares entered the US. My research has hit a wall with George Lare, born in 1788, unknown location and died in 1838 in Frederick County MD.

Anyone know the answer or at least point me in the right direction to find the answer?

I don't have any record of your George. Garrett's siblings were Maria, b. 1773; Johannes, b. 1775; Samuel, b. 1777; Matthias, b. 1779; Anne, b. 1782 and Andrew, b. 1787. The only George Lare/Lehr/Lair in my database is a George D. Lair who married another Lair, Catherine, in 1878. I have no info on George but can connect Catherine to my Lare family. I also have no Doll or Dahl connections. Sorry!

I've been able to trace my lineage to George Lare b. 1788. Anyone have any ideas of where I can go from here? The census records from 1790 only lists the head of house holds and the number of people in each age group.

Re: Amanda Byerly Lare Montgomery Co., PA

It is my belief that the census taker misspelled the name of John/Lavina. I have copy of Orphans' Court Montgomery Co. 1882 Estate proceedings of John wherein it lists: "Amanda Lare, a daughter of John Byerly, decd, and heir, intermarried with Joel Lare." Our family spelling has always been Byerly. Here is my info on Amanda: b Feb. 1845, Lare b. June 1844. Children: Amanda b. Nov. 1886 married ? Hansen, Joel (or Joehl) b. Nov. 1876.

Re: Amanda - 16 servant. It could be that when census taker was at Righter's this same Amanda was there. Looking at the 1877 Whitemarsh map, the land/house of "Mrs. Byerly"* is adjacent to that of C. Righter.
*in her name only and not John's because he disappeared in 1868 and was presumed dead by law 1875.

I also believe it is another misinterpretation of Amanda's last name in marriage record. As I understand it, there were 2 fires at St. Peter's - 1901 and 1920 which destroyed most original records and copies only are now available. I personally know of another misspelling within the documents. In searching for death of "Lavina" (who is really Malvina) - the record shows "Mehiner?" Byerly died 5/29/1877. The "?" is part of that record, so it is that the transcriber could not figure out that name. I am sure it is Malvina. Prior to finding that entry, I had approximated her dob to be 1822. The text further says she was 57 years, 15 days at burial, so that would put dob at 1820.
So I don't know if I've clarified anything for you - or simply muddied your waters more. Are we related?
Lainie

Do you have proof of the spelling of Amanda's last name? The reason I ask, there are two Amandas in Whitemarsh in the 1860 census (Note Spelling)-
1. Amanda Byerley, 15, daughter of John & Lavina
2. Amanda Byerly, 16, servant in house of John & Rebecca Righter. The Righter name is in the Lare Family.

Their marriage is recorded in the records of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Barren Hill, Montgomery County, PA as:
Joel Lare and Amanda Bailey, married November 5, 1865 in Parsonage.
jhdaviesiii@aol.com

No, I don't have a Daniel Lare. I don't have too much information on my Lare side in Philly. The oldest Lare I have is a Samuel Lare, born about 1790 in Philly. I have only one child of his marriage; named John L. Lare. I wouldn't doubt that Samuel had more than one child, but I haven't come acrossed any yet. But I will see if I can locate them. Check my website out for more Lare stuff.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mroberts/
Mike

On the contrary, I have Lares in Ohio that came from Pennsylvania. Of course they could have gone back. My Lares were In Penn. before 1840, as I have a marriage in OH in 1840. Coincidently , it is the marriage of John L. Lare and Susannah Roop.

I am looking for anyone having a connection to George Lare who we believe was born in April of 1854. I am looking for his parents. At one point he lived in Delaware County (1900 census) with his wife Lillian (Lillie) and their children. I think he had also lived in Sullivan County (probably town of Rockland) and perhaps at one time in Orange County.

I was stumped to my great grandfather Daniel Lare.(b1835) in Pa. He also had two brothers and a sister, George (b aug, 1833), Abraham(b1839) and Elizabeth (b1837). A Greg Laregave me info on their parents, which were John Lare (b1809) and Sarah. The story was that my great grandfather and siblins were Bound-out after their father died. John Lare(b1809) appears to be a son of a JOHN LARE in Philadelphia, who had 15 children. I found a will for John filed in Passyuunk Twp, Phila. Co. in july 6, 1914. His children, all minors) were as follows:John, Margaret, Godfrey, Peter, George, Henry< Jacob, Isaac, Mary, Susanna, Rebecca, William, and Catharine.

My Great Grand Father was Daniel Lare(b1835), his brother was Abraham(b1839), He also had a brother George( b1833). They all appear to have been born in Northumberland, PA. I have found only one person who knew they were bound out after their father died. I have some reference to a John LAre may have been their father. If so their is reference to a John Lare who was the son of John Lare of Philadelphia. I found a will posted in Passyunk Twp, Phila. Co, in 1814 which list 14 children. Are they all related and where did the original John Lare come from???
Can you shed any light??

My relative, Matilda, is the daughter of Lewis H. Lare and Matilda (?) Lare. I think that Lewis is your Walter Lewis. I don't know where the Walter came from. Lewis' children are Matilda, Susan, Charles, Mary. You can find Lewis in the 1860 census in Phila, Pa. His daughter Matilda married Winfield S. Millis. Do you know the first name of Mary Dunn's husband? I would be happy to share more info if you would like. Thanks.
Linda Phillips
