I am desperately seeking information regarding the above titled person. Esther (possible maiden name of Leroux, Lareau) LaPerle.

Esther was my great-great grandmother. She was born February 1830 in Canada (French) as were her parents, most likely the province of Quebec. I do not know the name of her husband but his surname was LaPerle. Esther bore 8 children with her LaPerle husband, only 4 of whom were living in June 14, 1900. In June 14, 1900 Esther, then age 70 years old, was living with my great grandmother, Emilie (Potvin) LaPerle (born January 13, 1867) and her four children.
SOURCE: 1900 US Federal Census, Plainfield, Windham, Connecticut, Roll: 151, Pg. 153, ED: 518, Sheet # 11, June 14,1900.

Emilie was the wife/widow of Esther's son Francis LaPerle, who was my great grandfather. Both Emilie and Esther were widowed at the time of the 1900 US Federal Census in Moosup, Connecticut and living in the home with Emilie's 4 (four) children, Almedos (anglicized to and known throughout his life as George H. LaPerle), Emerie F. LaPerle, Alvina LaPerle and Henri Isadore LaPerle. Henri was my maternal grandfather. Henri's daughter, Irene Marie (LaPerle) Dumas was my mother.

Of Esther's 8 (eight) children I only know the following:

1. Francis LaPerle (my great grandfather) born Bet. 1868 - 1869 in Canada, Died sometime in a four year period between December 1896 and June 1900. The timeline for his date of death is because he was there at his son's conception. Henri (my grandfather was the youngest child and born on September 24, 1897 so I know his conception was around December 1896 and by the 1900 US Federal Census in Moosup his wife, Emilie was listed as widowed. What happened to him is a big mystery and I can find absolutely no records for him.

2. Jean Baptiste LaPerle (also known by his anglicized name of John LaPerle), born: Bet. 1868 - 1869. John and Francis may have been twins because cousins of mine state that their parents told them that our widowed great grandmother Emilie, after Francis' death, married his twin brother, John. And the marriage to John is at least verified in the 1910 US Federal Census for Moosup. In that Census Emilie's name is mistakenly listed as Amelia but it is her because all of her children are also listed as part of the household. I also have an aunt who told me that her father, Henri grew up knowing John as his father, since his father Francis died when Henri was a very young child. In the 1910 Census it states that John and my great grandmother Emilie had been married for 8 years so since about 1902. John emigrated from Canada to the USA in 1876 and was listed as an alien in 1910. My great grandmother Emilie (Potvin) LaPerle emigrated to the USA in 1888. At the time of the 1910 US Federal census in Moosup, John (Jean Baptiste) LaPerle and my great grandmother Emilie were living at 413 Daggett Street in Moosup, Connecticut. John was working as a twister in a cotton mill. John and Emilie John and Emilie (Potvin) LaPerle continued to live in this Daggett Street home until at least the census of 1930. Emilie died April 27, 1942.

1930 US Federal Census, Plainfield, Windham, Connecticut, Roll: 284, Pg. 17A, ED: 12, April 16, 1930.

I do not know the names of the other 8 children of Esther (Laroux, Lareau) LaPerle and her husband but in looking at census records I found a Treffle LaPerle and his wife Alma and their family living in very close proximity at a home at 343 Main Street, right around the corner from where Esther and her daughter-in-law Emilie (Potvin) LaPerle were living at Daggett Street. And Treffle's age born: September 1867 is the right age to be the son of Esther (Leroux, Lareau) LaPerle and the brother of my great grandfather, Francis Born: bet. 1868 - 1869 and his brother Jean Baptiste (John) born bet.1868 - 1869. Treffle in one census is listed as having emigrated to the USA in 1878 and in the other in 1885.

Another LaPerle also found living in very close proximity to Esther and her daughter-in-law, Emilie (Potvin) LaPerle was Alphonse LaPerle and his wife Mary and family. Alphonse was also born at the same general period of time to be a brother of my great grandfather, Francis and the son of Esther (Leroux, Lareau) LaPerle. Alphonse was born October 1862. He emigrated from Canada to the USA in 1880 and was also an alien.

There is also a woman who posted a picture of a Theophile LaPerle born: 1839 at the Ancientfaces.com site. His resemblance to my great grandfather, Francis is remarkable. So that may also be a family connection.

With the history of these people all said and done and my connection to them spelled out quite clearly, what I would love to know, if anybody can help me, is what is the connection to all of these LaPerle's.

1. Are Treffle and Alphonse also the sons of my great great grandmother, Esther?
2. Can anyone tell me anything about Esther and her husband, who he is, where they are from, and who their 8 children were besides my great grandfather, Francis and his brother Jean Baptiste (aka John)?
3. Can anyone tell me what happened to Esther's son Francis who died between December 1896 - June 1900. One of my aunt's thought that both he and his wife Emilie and his mother Esther were buried in All Hollows cemetery in Moosup but in looking over on-line gravestone transcriptions, I could find no indication of that.

When I was growing up I used to hear conversations between my grandparents, Henri Isadore LaPerle and his wife, Marie (Turgeon) LaPerle, and my mother and aunts and uncles. And I distinctly recall hearing the names Edward and Alphonse so I know there has to be a connection to all of these LaPerle's living in the Moosup, CT. area. PLEASE HELP! ; ) If you send me data PLEASE also send me the sources of your data, verifying all information I receive is very important to me to keep an accurate family tree.

So if anyone knows anything about Esther (Lareau, Leroux or variations) and her family, PLEASE, contact me.

Jeannette T. Dumas
