I am looking for info on the family of my
great great grandfather.
His name appears in the 1880 Census for
Rensselaer Co, NY as Frank Larkin, though the
spelling Larkins seems to have been used by
most, if not all, of his children. His wife's
gravestone, too, has the surname Larkins, with
an 's'. Here is what I have on his family:
Frank Larkin
b: 1841-1843
d: ??
married
Lillis (Lillie, Lillian) Thomson (daughter of
Oliver Carpenter Thomson and Jerusha Wheeler)
b: 7 Apr 1849 or 1850 Hoags Corners, NY
d: 20 Jan 1897
their children:
Mina J. Larkins (married Ernest Dolet or Dole)
b: 1870
d: 1933
Mary Larkins
b: 1869-1871
d: ??
Ann (Annie) Larkins (married Charles Gray)
b: 1870-1871
d: ??
(children: Charles Gray, Jr., Wellington Gray,
Lillis Gray - married Theodore Wickware)
John Timothy Larkins (married Effie Miller)
b: 14 Oct 1873 Brainard, NY
d: 1946
(children: Lela Marion Larkins, Merritt Ernest
Larkins, Ruth Esther Larkins)
Frank M. Larkins (Jr.) (married Muriel E.)
b: 1874
d: 1937
(children: Arbie Larkins, Asa Larkins, Gladys
Larkins, George Larkins, Katherine Larkins,
Frank Larkins, Jr., Edward Larkins, Hazel
Larkins, Kermit Larkins)
Albert Larkins
b: 1875-1876
d: ??
Lee (Lester?) Larkins
b: 1878-1879
d: ??
(children of Lester: Helen Larkins, Dorothy
Larkins)
Alice Larkins (married White)
b: after 1 June 1880
d: ??
I also have the names Mame and Lester, but I
am guessing that they are the same as Mary and
Lee above. If not, they were born after 1880.
I have been told that the Larkins in Rensselaer
were descended from either Timothy of Rhode Islandand, or Timothy of Ireland. The Irish Timothy
emigrated to Rensselaer in the mid 1800s. Census
records state that both of Frank's parents were
born in Ireland (Frank was born in NY). It is
quite possible that the Irish Timothy was the
father of Frank, though I do not know for certain.
Frank and Lillis' children settled in Schenectady
and Rensselaer counties in NY, and in Connecticut.
I would appreciate hearing from you if you know
more about any of these individuals. I will be
happy to share whatever other info I have, or
might turn up, in return.
