Marguerite LaROSE m. Jean-Baptiste TREMBLAY

Hi, I'm looking for help with this couple. It may be Jean-Baptiste's second marriage. Their one confirmed daughter's birth is Elizabeth TREMBLAY, b. Nov 1858-1861 in Moose Creek, Stormont Co. Ontario. Elizabeth was married in Sept 1882 in Embrun, Russell Co. ONT (confirmed) to Francois ASSELIN.

J.Bpt (54 y.o.) might be in the 1871 Roxborough/Stormont co census; online is only the Head/Stray index. And I think it might be him (widowed) in the 1851-52 (37 y.o.)Charlottesburgh/Glengarry census co.

Also, the LaROSE name looks fairly "popular" in the history of Embrun. And a witness named at Elizabeth's marriage was "Hormisdas SIGOUIN", another name with a little history in that area.

Any help at all would be most appreciated to help me unwind these confounded branches! Lynne :)
I am looking into my family history and I have hit a stop here with Oliver Larose and Caroline Larose(Riendeau). They were my great grandmother's parents. I believe they were born in Canada and lived most of their lives there. Not sure if and when they moved to USA. Their children were:

Oliver Larose Jr. who went by Joe rather then Oliver
Albert Larose
William Larose
George Larose
Regina Godin(Larose)
Dora Dufalt(Larose) married Arthur Dufalt
Geneva Godin(Larose)
and my great grandmother
Justina Laflam(Larose) who was married to George Laflam

If anyone has any information like birth records, death records, or any other information on any of these names I would love to know more about it. Also if your looking for info on perhaps Justina Laflam(Larose)'s part of the family, I have quite a bit of info on that. You can either post a reply here or email my directly at rgdtad05@aol.com

One child know, with any certainty, Lucy Ann, born to Rose and Abe. Abe was found in The 1920 census to be living in Hickory County, Missouri with his younger brother, Joseph and his wife Clara.

I am searching for the parents of Alphonse Larose born abt 1909 in Rhode Island. It is said that his parents died in a tragic car crash???? but I have nothing to substantiate this. Afterward he was sent to live with family in Montreal, Quebec. I am not even sure if Larose is his real last name or the name of the family he went to live with. He may have had sisters. He ended up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. JC.

Larose (Jodoin dit Larose)

As far as we know, the ancestor of all Laroses in North America is "François Jodoin dit Larose" who came to Lower Canada from France around 1680. He had three sons. So the tree has 3 major branches in North America today. At least one of them went to the United States, probably Maine. One of them (or one of their descendants) may have kept the name Jodoin and dropped "Larose" at some point so one of the branches may suddenly have broken.

My sister is trying to rebuild our family tree.

Does the information above match what any of you know?

Many Thanks.

Manon

We are looking for relatives are descendants of the above subjects. I had a distant aunt, Sarah A. Hodges, living with my gggrandfather Anderson Hodges at Cross Timbers, Hickory Co., MO on the 1880 census. I have checked and my Hodges family was the only Hodges in Hickory Co. in 1880, besides his son William at another home. The problem is that my Sarah A. wasn't born until 1874. Her mother Mary A. died in 1878, and that is how she wond up at Anderson's. Can anyone be of any help on this? Is this marriage date correct?
Can any tell me if she is the same person? ***THANKS***
Gerald Hodges At:ghodmgil@aol.com

Alabama (Cossman) Larose - 100th Birthday; 1971

There is an article in the 8/15/1971 Sacramento Bee, about Alabama (Cossman) Larose, who was the first white child born at Lake Tahoe on 8/16/1871.
She was one of 13 children born to Mr. and Mrs. William Cossman.
Her parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Page, left Alabama by ox team with a large group of emigrants. Along the way, they changed their minds and went South, while most of the train continued North and were victims of the Mountain Meadow massacre in Utah.
The family started a dairy in the Folsom area and would drive cattle near Tahoe City (Page Meadows is named after them). Jane and William Cossman were helping with the dairy work in Tahoe City, and it was there that Alabama Cossman was born.
In 1871 she married George Larose, who was a fireman in San Francisco. He was severely burned in a fire at the Palace Hotel, and later had a store at fifth and Mission Streets. Mr Larose died in 1930, and Alabama divided her time living with one daughter in Oakland and the other in Palo Alto. The daughters, twins, married brothers, Frank and William Reid.
Her 100th birthday party was held at the home of her grandson, George L Reid of Palo Alto. Her sister Mrs. H.T. Suber of Sacramento, also attended. At the time, she resided at Whitcomb Nursing Home in Palo Alto, Ca.

If anybody needs information on the Soret dit Larose line, I have information that goes from Jacques Sorette (1741 arrival in Canada) to my grandfather. It branches out quite a bit. I would be more than happy to handle any research requests for this family (free of charge of course). The family name can be seen as Soret, Sorette, Saurette. So come on - I have lots of information and am willing to share it - please don't hesitate to email your request and information. Thanks everybody!

Steve Rock
7th great grandson of Jacques Sorrette and Catherine Laporte

He married Josephine Bourget around 1891 and passed away on September 6, 1937 in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan. His wife Josephine died January 14, 1933 and is also buried in Storthoaks.

I am now looking for William's parents' names, when and where he was born, etc. Does anyone have this family in their lineage??
