Myrna A. Ahrens, the daughter of Albert and Dora (Thorberg) Larson was born on January 9, 1919 at Petersburg, Nebraska. She received her elementary education at country school east of Petersburg, and graduated in 1937 from Albion High School. Upon completing school, she moved to Omaha and later Chicago where she worked as a nanny. During WW II, Myrna worked at an ammunitions plant in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She later moved to Oakland California where she worked as a telegraph operator.
On September 23, 1945 Myrna married Frank F. Ahrens in New Rochelle, New York. Myrna spent much of her life living in different locations around the United States and overseas with her husband while he served in the Air Force. This included tours at Offutt Air force Base in Omaha; Yokota and Tachikawa Air Force Bases in Japan; Glasgow, Mt, and Topeka, Kansas before moving to Albion in 1969. Following the death of her husband, Frank in 1986, she moved to Omaha where she lived until returning to Albion in 1997. She lived at Harmony Homes in Albion until moving into the Wolf Memorial Assisted Living Apartments.
Myrna is survived by 3 children: Lizbeth “Beth” Jensen and husband Paul of Omaha, NE; Frank Jr. and wife Cindy of Stromsburg, NE; Byron II and wife Nina of Houston, TX; 4 grandchildren: Donovan Ahrens; Shana Schanou; Aaron Reetz; Byron Ahrens III; 2 great-grandchildren: Alex and Isaac Reetz; 1 brother: Dean Larson and wife Beverly of Albion; 7 sisters: Vera Runnels and husband David of Chickasha, OK; Margaret Jacobson and husband Cecil of North Platte, NE; Caryll Karges of Albion; Dorthy Tisthammer and husband Jim of Albion; Alice Howard and husband Max of Larned, KS; Glenys Quinlan and husband Tom of Conifer, CO; Laura Wray and husband Michael of Fremont, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1986, and brother-in-law Bill Karges.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2006 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion with Rev. Greg Berger officiating. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion. Visitation will be on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
