Rabbi Abraham Laser honored for help in Yellow Fever Epidemic 1870, Mobile, AL

From the Mobile,Alabama Newspaper
Monday, Oct. 4, 1909

At the Jewish Temple on Government street yesterday morning ... Mr. Sig mund Haas , in behalf of the family and congregation arose, and in a most felicitous and moving address, presented an enlarged portrait of Rabbi Abraham Laser , in whose memory the exercises were held."

According to news accounts, Laser had come to Mobile in 1867, and in the yellow fever epidemic of 1870 had refused to leave the city, staying to minister to the ill and dying. But, "Late in November he himself contracted the disease and finally succumbed." He was buried in the Jewish sector of Magnolia Cemetery.

Not my line, just sharing.

Am looking for info on Lieser family. Trying to connect my ggggrandfather, Jacob, b. 18 JUL 1805 in West Penn twp., married Suzanne Schumacher and moved to Sandusky Co., Ohio in the 1860's, to Frederick Lieser of Liberty Bell fame. Elder members of our family branch suspect that Frederick's son, Daniel, was "our" Jacob's father. Also, looking for info on Frederick's wife and children and his children's spouses and children, especially Daniel.
