Re: Anna Laska

I have two LASKA in my family records. These entries most likely predate your great grandmother, but it could be a clue to the LASKA family origin.

The oldest entry is Zuzanna LASKA married to Adam RABIN. I have no dates for this couple but would estimate they were born in the mid 1700's.

Adam and Zuzanna (Susanna) are the parents to Eva LASKA, born 8-Feb-1792 in Hradek, Silesia, Austria/Hungary.

Eva LASKA married Adam CZUDEK on 30-Jan-1815 in Hradek, Silesia, Austria/Hungary.

They had a son Pavel CZUDEK on 28-Mar-1818 when they lived in Cislo 53 (House #53) in Hradek.

These official records are from the Evangelical vicarage books of Navsi u Jablunkov, Volume 1, years 1791 to 1869.

These original church records are held in the Opava Archive, Opava, Czech Republic.
Hi Kathy,
I'd be happy to exchange as much information as possible. I am from Mpls, MN. I'd like to establish how common are our ancestors. I have other information pertaining to other Laskas from Winona city and county but I haven't tied them all together. We have also had some trouble with given names that might have changed. My initial question to you is : Do you know the names of Leon's parents? Please get back soon. I hope we can help each other out a lot. We are hoping we can tie Leon to my G grandparents, Stanislaus and Victoria Laska. My grandparents lived in Winona and were named Joseph and Catherine (Nopientec sp?) Laska. Tom

Carl,
I don't see if I ever responded to your message. I don't know why this happened. My grandfather Joseph Laska, his wife Catherine and their first son Frank came to MN about 1880. I believe they first moved to WI near Green Bay. The only town name I have heard is the city of Posnan in NW Poland. Apparently Laska is a fairly common name in that part of Poland. I think that Joseph's father, Stanislaus came over with his wife and also lived in Winona. I also believe there was one other Stanislaus Laska that lived in the Winona area. My father had cousins in Winona he spoke of including one named Larry and I remember my dad talking of an uncle who farmed just north og the Twin Cities. I would dearly love to establish some other connections and get some info on the origins in Poland. How have you been doing?

The information I have on her is very limited & both my paternal grandparents died when I was young, so there is no source of information for me! This is what I have: Anna was born Jan 8, 1884 in Austria-Hungary. She married a John Gay (I believe his name was changed when they arrived in the US). They had several children, one being Michael Gay. If anyone has any information at all, please let me know. I can not find any info on my father's side of the family & it is so frustrating! Thanks!

My great grandfather Eduard Laska was born in Autischkau in 1845. He became a teacher and moved to Schwieben near Tost. With the help of records from the LDS library I have found many Laskas dating back to 1776 in Autischkau. However, I have no information from the post war period and would be very interested in anything you could share.

Re: LASKA/WOIDA connection

My great-grandfather Theophil Woida (b. 4 March 1883 in Milwaukee, d. approx 1928, married Agnes Borucki in 1907) was also the son of John Woida and Frances Laska. I have little information about his generation and his parents, and am VERY interested in finding out more. I can offer that the original spelling of the surname was "Wojda." I've heard that it was changed by individuals as they signed up for Social Security numbers. Also, Theophil and August had the following siblings: Bernard, Tillie (later married Niewiadomski), Kostek, Johnny, Casimir, and Stanley. I'd love to learn anything at all about the family.

Hi, I am Audrey Rath, the daughter of Jeannette(Laska) Masters. I live in Glendale, Arizona. I have developed a interest in genealogy and started researching my parents family trees. I came across the Pawel Laska family tree and was wondering who put what is available together. My mother was born August 20, 1915 at the homstead. I would like to participate in research if possible and be kept updated. My home phone number is (602)978-9785. I am the oldest in my family and have 3 brothers, Michael, Gregory and Richard. They may be interested in this also.

Laska families in Winona

My father's name was Harry J. Laska. He was born in Winona in 1902. His father's name was Joseph and his mother's name was Katherine who both immigrated to the US about 1880. Joseph's father was Stanislaus who also came to the US around (18??)and settled in Winona with his wife, Victoria. I know my grandfather Joseph also had a brother John (and I also believe a Harry)who lived in Winona County. I don't understand all the connections between all of the Laska's in Winona or elsewhere in the US or Canada so I would be interested in hearing more about what you find. My father told me we were Polish Kashuba. So I guess we originated in that part of Poland and at least have that tribal relationship. Good hunting.

I found one Stanislaus buried in St. Mary's Cemetery but he seemed to be buried next to a Zophia and I believe my G grandmother's name was Victoria. I'm still wondering what the connection might be between our two families. Regards, Tom

I grew up in Winona. Lately, I've been doing much geneology research with my brother and wife. I know there were Laskas in Homer township of Winona Co. and it seems to me that that is where Ben lived. We're still trying to figure out the connections between all the Laskas in the Winona area. There are also many that live in the Twin Cities area of MN where I currently live. Some of these relationships are clear but many aren't. I'd like to know more about what you've learned.

My father, Harry Laska, told me that his parents first lived in the Ashland Wisconsin area. This would have been around 1880. Harry's father was Joseph (Josef) and his mother was Katherine. This family settled soon thereafter in Winona. We found them there fist in the MN State census of 1885 but I believe Joseph denounced loyalty to the Kingdom of Prussia before 1885.
