Can any of you place this LASSETER born about 1846-49 GA with a family there, please? I'd suspect he was a confederate soldier if I knew for sure who he was. By child birth years he took his family to Texas about 1870-74, shortly after the civil war. The way folks tell it cotton land was worn out too, so they moved west and farmed cotton there.

1880 U.S. Census (near Leander) Williamson Co, TX
John E LASSETER 31 farmer GA GA GA
Mary E 29 GA GA GA
Harberte 11 b. GA (known as Doc)
Len E. 9 b. GA
Katie S. 6 b. TX
Mattie S. 4 b. TX
Georgia 2 b. TX
Zachrie 5m. b. TX (known as Zack)

I think in about the 19-teens they went further west. A number of children have disappeared, married or dead.

1920 U.S. Census Westbrook, Mitchell Co, TX ED# 156
Westbrook
L E LASSETER 73 farmer GA GA GA
Marie 69 GA GA SC
H ? 50 (Doc) farmer GA
Z T 40 (Zach) farmer TX
Marguerite 34 postmistress TX
Millie VANHORN 31 married dtr TX (b. Leander)
Pauline 9 g'dtr TX TX TX
Mary Florence (Angel) g'dtr 1 NM TX TX

(thus spouse Paul VANHORN b. TX) I think Millie/Mellie's name was Permelia Mabel. Neither Doc nor Zack married.

Alias "John" 1880 is now "L E" as he was known by 1920. Son Len E is one that went missing; L E seems likely his real name. Mary may be wife #1, Marie #2 since their mothers' birth states differ.

They were not nearby on the 1880 census, but closest neighbors at Westbrook were POOL and many BELLs, both families with GA roots, if by chance they came from around the same place.
