Lassiters from NC

I am looking for additional information for this branch of my family tree. The descendants I am seeking information for, are of African-American and Native American descent, or at least so I gathered from family reports. My great great grandfather was Granison Lassiter (b.1820) whose wife was Mary. They lived and raised their family near/in Gates County, NC. My direct line from their union is John Henry Lassiter (my great grandfather- b.1863) who married Fannie Cora Griffin; Annie Eunice Lassiter (my grandmother) married Robert Augustus Savage. My grandparents lived in Sunbury, NC and the Gates County, NC area as well. If anyone has any additional information regarding Granison Lassiter and/or John Henry Lassiter, other than the names of their offspring and census information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I’m looking for any information on my 2X great-grandfather, J.R. (Robert) Lassiter. He was born about 1834 in Wake County, married Rebecca Ann Brown (d/o Spencer Brown) on 28 Sept 1865, and died between 1873 and 1880.

Children:

1. Joseph Robert Lassiter, b. 1867, d. 1942 in Franklin County, married Louisa Ayscue 1890 in Franklin Co.(children Joseph Lee, Parker, Robert, Carrie Louise, Hurley, Staley, William, Ruth)

2. Mary Lassiter, b. 1869, d. before 1880?

3. Fannie Alphrada Lassiter, b. 1870, d. 1922, married Hulitt White Harris (children Adeline and Lois Harris)

4. Spencer Harold, b. 1873, d. 1934, married Susan Patricia Lassiter

I suspect that J.R. Lassiter’s parents were Reddick/Riddick Lassiter and Frances Crowder? Rhodes?, but I can’t prove it. Reddick and Frances' other children were J.W. b.c. 1832, Susan F. b. 1840, Mary Elizabeth b. 1841 (m. John Calvin Broughton), and William H. b. 1849.

This has been my genealogical brickwall for almost 30 years, so I’d greatly appreciate any leads on these Wake County Lassiters!
Lassiters descendants of Richard, Constable of Halifax?

I came across some information posted online about Thomas Leister (who arrived in America in 1620 on the ship Abigaile) being a descendant of Richard of Halifax. This connection takes the line a flying leap back about five or six generations to 1387, farther back than anything I’ve seen yet, and seems too good to be true!
It also stated that Thomas Leister had a son named Richard. (I have only heard about a son, Robert.)
The info described Richard, Constable of Halifax, being born 1387 in Yorkshire, England, and dying in 1427. Stated also was that Thomas Leister’s grandfather was named Samuel Leister, a cloth merchant born 1507 in Yorkshire, and that Thomas’s father’s name was James George Lister.
I looked elsewhere and couldn’t find other postings that discussed this.
Comments, anyone?
I do know that she was married at least once before to C.S. Towler. The only known states associated with her that we know of are, OK. and CA. Believe she was born in the 1930s, had a brother named Calvin or Billy, sister named Ethel, mother named Myrtle, other relatives not known.

Jesse Lassiter

I am looking for any information that anyone may have on Jesse Lassiter b c 1800-1810 NC (best guess) who married Mary S. Mathis in Richmond Co. NC on 9-8-1827. Does anyone have any info on his sibs if any or his parents? He and Mary migrated from NC to TN to MS to AR to MO where he died during civil war and his family returned to AR after he died in MO. Any info on Jesse and his sibs or parents would be of great help. I don't know if he came to NC from SC or VA but I need info on his family if anyone has something please let me know. A lot of people have been trying to research this line but we seem to have come to a dead end with Jesse Lassiter. His oldest son was William and may have been named after his father if he followed traditional naming patterns. Mary's family of Mathis's I believe migrated to NC from SC and then on to AR with Jesse and Mary Lassiter. Any help will be appreciated. He has to have had other family somewhere in NC?
Debby
debbylassiter@hotmail.com

Harmon Lassiter/Nancy Rainwater? or Nancy/Nicey Bounds

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. I am looking for information on the Harmon and Nancy LASITER who was living in Chesterfield, Chesterfield, SC in 1840-1860. I am needing information on their children.

Also, does anyone know anything about the Harmon Lassiter who married Nancy/Nicey bounds in 1796 NC? Does anyone have a list of their children or know any of their descendants?

Could the Nancy/Nicey Bounds have a Rainwater connection, causing a confusion on her last name?

My cousins and I are trying to prove/disprove any connection to this Harmon Lassiter being the parents of Jesse Lassiter, b. 1804, William, b. 1813 and John, b. 1810, NC, who are all found on the 1850 McNairy Co., TN census living close to each other. It has always been thought they were brothers but no proof has ever been found to officially connect them.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bonnie Graves

Lassiter connection SC first name Shimuel Shemuel

Hi..
Am actually researching Woods family Daniel b 1787 Ga married Celia b 1795 SC. My reason for posting to Lassiter board..Celia's maiden is unknown and in searching family trees..my gg grandfathers given name was Shimuel Wright Wood(s). With Shimuel being such an unusual name I found several Shimuel's different generations hailing from SC that included Lassiter's. Thought perhaps someone might have a clue as to Celia's parentage. She was in Winston County MS in 1850 census with her husband Daniel. He passed before 1860 and in following census up until 1880 she is in household of her youngest son Thomas Wood who was born 1839 in GA. Shimuel I was hoping was a family tradition and perhaps could tie us into the Lassiter name. My Shimuel b 1827 SC married Mary Ann "Polly" Cameron in Winston County Ms in 1846. If you have any ideas..please let me know. Thanks!

I am looking for my father's parents. My father's name was Laurence Kenneth Lassiter. His father's name was Enos Lassiter and his wife was Martha Lassiter. Martha went by Mattie. I can find no record of them anywhere.

My grandfather, father's day, was named Toy Alonzo Lassiter but hated the name Toy and went by Roy. His DOB is 5-15-1888 to 3-25-1958. He was from Calloway City, Ky. and then moved to Flint, Michigan where he ran a parking lot and then a gas station. He was married, no wife's name and had a sone named Fred Lassiter who I was told use to be in Massena,Ny. Then he married my grandmother, MaryEdna Board Witt, and they had my father in Evansville,In.. For a time, when my father was small they lived in Indiana and Ky.

From what I understand, my grandfather was a real ladies man, so many girls may have known him!!

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!

Sarah Lassiter/Wren

Sarah was married to Andrew Jackon Wren. He died around 1880 in Arkansas. She was possibly an Eastern Cherokee or part Eastern Cherokee. Many of the Lassiter/Lasiter's in the VA/NC/MD/SC area in the early 1800's seem to have ties to the Cherokee .. If you have any information about her and her Indian name, I would appreciate your help. My uncle once said he had some information about her and possible connection to the Cherokee, but he died and the information has been lost to the rest of the family from his belongings.

Rufus Lassiter

Desperately attempting to discern the nee surname of Rufus C. Lassiter's wife, Sophronia. They lived in Jackson County, Arkansas and had one son, Riley William Lassiter (b. 6 May 1880, AR) who married a Sylva Esther and moved to Oklahoma. Rufus died on 29 Sep 1884, and is buried at the Shiloh Cemetery, Diaz, Jackson County, Arkansas. Sophronia was then remarried (probably?) to William Perry Barton, who is also buried at the Shiloh Cemetery. Possible surnames include: Ray, Rey, Rhea, Gray, etc. Sophronia and William P. Barton are my gr-grandparents... it's horrible to have a "brick wall" so late in my ancestry!

Regards,

Richard Lee Barton Hutchins

Looking for my grandmother

My mothers biological mother's maiden name was Lassiter but I do not know how exactly it was spelled. This is what I do know: Her name was Dorothy. In 1944 or '45 she married a man; Homer Barksdale. She lived in Kansas. She was born in Kansas or Iowa. She had 3 children at a young age-- 1 boy ( at the age of 17) and 2 girls ( the oldest girl at the age of 19 and the youngest girl she had at age 21) . She went shopping one day and never came back; this was about 1954 or 1955.
I know this is pretty vague but I would really like to know what happened to her and I know my mother would too. There has been some speculation that she may have been killed by her husband or killed in a car accident or something ... or that she may have amnesia or somehting of that nature... I don't believe this. Please Please Please contact me if you know anything.

Lost contact with him 40-50 years ago when he probably moved to southeastern VA (Newport News or Suffolk most likely). His brothers are J.C. Lassiter (Powellsville. NC) and Robert Wilson Lassiter, who died two years ago in Ahoskie, NC. Shelton would be about 68 years old at this time. Parents were Raymond Lassiter and Mary Lassiter from Aulander/Ahoskie, NC area. Any information will be useful.

I would like to exchange info. I too am interested in Josiah Lassiter. My Josiah married Mary Russell (b 1770) in 1798 in Gates Co., NC. They had a son Henry T. Lassiter (1803-1878). I think my Josiah may have died around 1821, because I think he had a son John b. 1804 who was apprenticed in 1821 in Gates Co. to a Henry Lassiter. I think the Josiah b. 1740, father of Micajah b 1764, was a different Josiah. Kalenas responded to your email and indicated that the Josiah father of Micajah died in 1778.
Let me know if you want to pursue this further.
William "Buck" Lassiter/Cora Webb

I am helping a client to try and find her family she was seperated from them at a fairly young age. I found her and her family on the 1930 census and then thats it I can't find anything. I have been through message board after message board and cannot find anything that even links them to the lassiter's on the board.
Her father was William "Buck" Lassiter born approx 1874
His wife was Cora Webb in 1930 she was 28 which would mean she would have been born around 1902. The census showed a sibling named Junius born 1912, George Anna, 1914, Charlie born 1915, Elizabeth born 1920, Blount born 1921, Lonenza born 1925 and Bettie born 1927. Cora would have been around 14 when she had Charlie and Cora is listed as his mother on the social security. I am hoping that her date of birth is wrong because if she had Junius in 1912 she would have only been 11 years old and "Buck" would have been 38. Everyone just disappears after 1930, Bettie and Charlie are the only two with social security records as well as "Buck" and I believe that I may have Cora's. Does anyone have any insight at all on this group of Lassiter's. I am currently working with Bettie trying to help her establish when she was born and where and if any family remains.

Have learned absolutely nothing about Zadie Ann Lassiter who married Robert Newton Waters.
I know that they had 8 children: Porter, Harrison, Truman, Ras, Denver, Johnny (JD), Ruth, & Ruby.
It was rumored that Zadie may have been on the Trail of Tears and stopped off in Arkansas, thus meeting Robert Newton Waters.
Not sure about that. However, every lead has been a dead end and those of us looking are becoming a bit discouraged. Like anyone else we would really like to know our roots. Please, if you know anything about any of the people listed in this message, please notify me ASAP. Thank you.

Mary Jane Lassiter of NC; Martha A Lassiter

My GG Grandmother was Mary Jane Lassiter, born 12-18-1845 in NC. She married Thomas J Hickman. On the 1900 Census for Iron Co, MO they listed a daughter by the name of Martha, born in 1887. I also have a warranty deed where Mary Jane Lassiter and husband, Thomas Hickman sold land to a Martha A Lassiter 1-17-1871. I think this Martha A Lassiter was either a mother or sister to my Mary Jane Lassiter. I would appreciate any assistance with this Lassiter family of North Carolina.
vangoz@netscape.net

Hi! I haven't posted on this site for a while, but am still consumed with this hobby! I've been working on trying to get my database as complete and accurate as possible, and am getting ready to submit my updated gedcom to my worldconnect site, which is:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=barbdale...

One of the things I am trying hard to do, is get all the obviously related people in my database, in their correct families. As you probably well know, the above named familes married and married and married in Johnson Co., Arkansas over the past 150+ years!

If you have any of the above surnames in your line, please check out my world connect site, and let me know of any additions, corrections, etc. If your line is in mine, I'd love for you to write me directly at:

barbarashultz@flash.net

so we can 'connect'!

My most direct lines are:

William C. Baskin (1782-1865) & Rebecca Gibson
Frederick Laster (1780-1852) & Nancy Smith
Thomas Yandell (b. 1803) & Lucretia Bowling

I hope to hear from a lot of you soon!

Barbara

Still Looking for My Lassiter Family Line

I am looking for information on an Elisha Lassiter and his daughter Mary Jane Lassiter who was born in North Carolina on December 18, 1845. This is all I have on her father his name I do not have her mothers name. Mary Jane Lassiter married a Thomas Jefferson Hickman on June 19, 1865 in Calhoun Co.; AR. Thomas Jefferson Hickman was born on May 23, 1838 in Calhoun Co., AR. Thomas J and Mary J had nine children.
Mary E Hickman b July 25, 1866, Daniel W Hickman b July 23, 1867, James W Hickman b March 01, 1870, John Layfett Hickman b April 10, 1871, Henry Clay Hickman b February 09, 1874, Nancy Jane Hickman b October 10, 1876, Nellie Hickman b May 23, 1880, Lucy Adeline Hickman b June 25, 1882 and Martha Matilda Hickman b January 30, 1887. Mary Jane Hickman nee Lassiter died on April 02, 1914 in MO and her husband Thomas Jefferson Hickman died on January 20, 1904 in? Their daughter Nancy Jane Hickman married a Harve C Jones on June 10, 1894 in Iron County, MO they had ten children. Nancy and Harve were my great-grandparents and Mary and Thomas were my great, great-grandparents. I have a picture of Harve C & Nancy J Jones with their adult children and they sure look like they have Native American Indian blood in the Family. My aunt Leota told me that there is Native American Indian blood in our family and that it is believe to be from Mary Jane Lassiter's side. I also look part Indian. So I would very much like to fine out more information on Mary Jane Lassiter and her parents and anything else anyone can tell me. Any help you can give me on this board will be gratefully appreciated! Thank You! Kathy B. I have a Family picture of Nancy Jane Hickman-Jones
In Feb 2002 I posted information about the death of one Reddick LASSITER in Greene Co. AL and typed an incorrect death date. Shame on me! His legatee information is in this previous post, and the link to it on this Message Board is:

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p...

Reddick's correct Death date is: 1857 (not 1837)

Reddick appears on the 1850 Greene Co.
