Matthew Rodgers, native of Ireland, Came to America before the American Revolution. He was married to Isabella C. Lathan (b.1750) in 1767. They lived in Mecklenburg County in North Carolina. Their children were: Matthew II (1790-1844) Jeanette Rodgers (1772-1848) , James, John, Rebecca Crall, and Adam Rodgers (1779-1844). Adam Rodgers married Nancy Agnes Craig(1803-1865) in 1821. Since your querry didn't include dates for all names, I am not sure which generation of Rodgers you are researching. Let's compare notes. sappjulia@bellsouth.net

I also have Lathan ancestors from around Sunderland. My ancestors were baptised at St Peters in Monkwearmouth. These parish records are not complete on IGI so I figured it wasn't worth guessing they were born elsewhere without checking this parish register first. I think I found some links with Allendale, Northumberland also. If you locate the parish in Allendale, Northumberland on IGI the records are complete A-H and I-Z are missing. I have found this to be the case with most online parish records for the north of England. A lot of areas are not online and you can't get them on disk either. Family search pilot has some bishop transcripts but they are far from complete. I have not found any links with Hexham myself but I wouldn't rule it out either. If anyone manages to check these parish records let me know what you find.

Isabella Lathan, Samuel Lathan & Agnes Craig

I am trying to make a connection between Samual LATHAN (1764-1848) husband of Agnes CRAIG and Isabella C. LATHAN wife of Mathew RODGERS. I have sketchy info that lists Isabella as the sister of Samuel. Does anyone know the parents of Samuel? And if this connection is true, Mathew Rodgers's son Adam married his first cousin Nancy Agnes LATHAN who was the daughter of Samuel and Agnes. I am very interested in also having the primary sources that prove any of this information as well as the places that these folks lived in.

Family History

There is a possibility that we are related. My family history is traced back to James Lathan (Leathan/Leatham) of Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland. It is said that 3 sons came to America in 1788, of which are Robert(my line), David and a WILLIAM. Robert was born in 1759, the others are unknown. In 1800, Robert emigrated to Charleston, S.C. After staying one year in Williamsburg County, S.C., he moved to Lancaster County, S.C. and then settled in Fairfield County, S.C. in the Wateree section near what is now known as White Oak. I know at one time he lived in Blackstock, S.C. After the death of his wife, he moved to Tipton County, TN, to live with his daughter, Sara McLerkin. If we are related then I believe WILLIAM would be the GRANDfather and not the father due to dates involved. I have only recently gotten into Genealogy but have gotten this information from William Lathan of Virgina who is my relative. The website indicated in my other posting is his and is extensive. I am also from a line of "Lost" Lathan's in his research. If you have any more questions or input email me at Longarm500@aol.com .
Please see message board under Latham. Looking for John Latham, could be spelled Lathan. He would have been born in the late 1890s maybe. He worked for the TTC in Toronto ontario with a compressor on the tracks. He lived on McCaul St. His sister was Mrs. Noon. If anyone can fill in the pieces, I would really appreciate it.

Leonard Lathan - newspaper article

When the Atlantic was an hour on her last up trip, and just a little above Spanish River, a man named Leonard Lathan suddenly rushed to the gangway and jumped overboard. He was a well dressed man about 25 years of age and was on his way to work at Serpent River mills. He had been drinking heavily for some time and was on the verge of delirium tremens when he committed the rash act. Deceased never came to the surface after going under.
Manitoulin Expositor, June 14, 1884
