Re: Helen LAUDER Clunie/Caputh

It's been forever since you posted here but I'll reply on the off-chance you still check here....

It sounds like your Helen is related to my Lauder family, who were from the Little Dunkeld area of Perthshire. I'll repost what I put in another thread here:

I am a descendant of Amelia Lauder (b. 1770 approx) & John Scrimgeour, married 1806 in Clunie, Perthshire.

I believe Amelia was the daughter of George Lauder and Elizabeth Clerk from Little Dunkeld, Perthshire, and had a number of known siblings including William (b. 1772, married Grace Strachan), David (b. 1774, married Janet Herdsman), John (b. 1777) and Clementina (b. 1778, married George Scott). The names Amelia and Clementina both recur frequently through their descendants. A good deal of the descendants lived around the Blairgowrie area.

It seems likely there is a link - as to whether Helen is a sister of my Amelia or a cousin of some description remains to be seen!

Isabella Lauder Ferguson, born 1847, Scotland to Toronto, Canada

I have a great-great grandmother, Isabella Constance Lauder Ferguson who was supposedly born somewhere in Scotland around 1847 and moved to the Toronto, Canada area (possibly around 1880) with her husband John Ferguson and sons George (my g-grandfather born 11/30/1867), James and John (the J&J names are not comletely confirmed). The Lauders may have been in Canada long before the Fergusons got there or they could have come together from Scotland together. After living in Toronto they moved to the Oakville, Ontario area and had a farm in the family until at least 1950. John and Isabella were farmers. I would appreciate any information or guidance that anyone might have as I have hit a brick wall in my search of this branch of the family
I know of 5 children Andrew 1720 ( my line ) James 1722 , Elizabeth 1725 , Agnes 1727 , Christian 1732 all born in Lauder parish . There is a Margaret Govenlock born 1705 in Selkirk to Andrew Govenlock and Jennat Smail , but I am not sure if this is the same one who married William Lauder ( dates don,t quite match up )

Yes, I wondered about her parentage too - but about 15 was probably considered OK in those days when the women often died before they were 40 but I haven't checked her further. The only area William Lauder I can track is 1688 - positively cradle snatching if the couple are right. Hence the hopeful hunt on roots.web. Thanks for coming back.

Hi Colin
Thanks for your email. I have really struggled to find info. I cant say for sure but I think my David Lauder's Mother was Jane. Unfortunately the census names have been corrupted as my David turns up as Lander on some returns. I know he married Isabella Croucher as I have his marriage cert. I will keep trying to uncover more info but at this time I cannot say for sure if we have the same David Lauder in common.
Thanks again good luck Chris.

E. Louise Lauder

I am writing a collective biography of 169 librarians who headed neighborhood branch libraries of the New York Public Library, 1901-1950.

One of them was E. Louise Lauder (ca. 1889-????). Lauder was born in NY and married a Mr. Bates before 1932. She worked at NYPL, 1923-1939 when she resigned.

There is a 1930 census record for a Louise Bates and John E. Bates living in the Bronx, NY but Mrs. Bates is listed as having no occupation.

If anyone has information on either of these individuals, I would greatly appreciate any leads.
Isabella lauder is my great great grandmother. Her son William is my great grandfather. His daughter Ellen is my grandmother.

I've tried many sites to obtain her birth reg. to find out who here parents were but to no avail.

I do have a copy of her death register and of course other info relating to her other children.

I don't think she married in Scotland (I could be wrong) but the 1901 census has her immigrating to Canada 1835. Of course the census could be incorrect.

I also looked up "Immigrants from Scotland before Confederation" at the library but the books only mention Walter's father James.

Anyway hope you still ckeck this site.

Regards

Barbara

Let me know what you would like to know

My grandfather John George Ferguson was born in Toronto on 1/28/1888 to George Ferguson and Eliza Martin. George Ferguson was born on 11/30/1867 supposedly in Edinburgh, Scotland to John Ferguson and Isabella Lauder Ferguson. George had a sister Agnes born on 12/12/1875. Isabella was born around 1840 to William and Isabella Lauder in Liff, Forfarshire, Scotland. I have more information on Isabella's siblings but nothing lese on her children. I believe that my Isabella had more sons. I have a picture of George Ferguson with two men who were supposed to be his brothers. I also have a picture of Isabella with George. I would love to hear from you if you think that we might be related and would be happy to share the rest of my information

Isabella Constance Lauder Ferguson born 1842 Liff, Scotland

I am looking for information on my gg-grandmother, Isabella Constance Lauder (born 1842 in Liff, Scotland). She married John Ferguson around 1861 and had two children, my g-grandfather George (born 11/30/1867) and Agnes (born 11/11/1875) both of whom were born in Scotland. Isabella came from a large family. Isabella's parents were William-born 1801 and Isabella-born 1807. She had four brothers and one sister, William-born 1831, John-born 1835, James-born 1844, Janet-born 1847, and Alexander-born 1850. In 1851, (when Isabella was nine) the Lauder family was living in Lochee, Scotland. By 1881 Isabella and husband John Ferguson were living in Grey, Ontario, Canada. I do not know anything else and would appreciate any information on birth, death, census, cemetery, etc. Thanks again to all of those who have helped me to get this far in my research. When I started out I barely knew my maternal grandfather's name. It really is wonderful to find out where you come from.
