Do you know there is a book on the Laughter family?
The Laughter Family Genealogy by Douglas Laughter
You can buy a copy from Higgins Books for $27 Soft cover or $39 Hard cover.
Some of the info is wrong, but alot is correct. Since this is a book that Higgins makes for you from the original, It doesn't have a title on the cover, but that's just a minor thing for me.

Naomi Mae Lawter 1921-1983, daughter of-
Luther Lawter 1895-1974, son of-
Rachel Millie Marsh Feb. 1855-June 1912 & Arthur Laughter (?-?)

Also, I have a picture of a Laughter tombstone:
A. Arthur 1844-1894 & Sopha (no dates)

I'm not sure if these are Arthur's parents, Arthur himself (but if so, his son Luther was born after his death), or other relatives.

These are from the Edneyville, NC or Fletcher, NC area.

My family line split off with Samuel Carson's grandfather, Samuel. My line went Samuel, John J, Hampton P, Henry A, Elmer R, and finally to me. I looked on Frank's web (www.laughtergenealogy.com) and noticed entries from Samuel to James Hicks, Samuel Carson, Baalis Bruce, but could not find Calvin. Frank has Baalis Bruce's children listed as Mark Crandall, Dixie 'Dee', Columbus 'Lum', Lloyd Manning, Gertruce Elizabeth, Vander, and Albert Roscoe. Is Calvin one of those? If so, you should email Frank with an 'Calvin' update. If not, you should email Frank and ask him to add another child.
I was amazed how many Laughter family members were out there.......I had grown up thinking I was one of a very few Laughter members in the world. How wrong I was. ha ha
I am working with Frank to update my side of the family to include my father's five children. Also, trying to work with Doug (Houston, TX) for same but running into more problems there.

Hello, I am related here too. My gggrandfather was Samual Carson Laughter, ggrandfather is Balis Bruce Laughter, Calvin Laughter is my grandfather. I believe every body on the Laughter geneology web site is related to Henry Laughter born in the 1670's. You can contact me if you like, we are most likely related too.

The John H (or possibly B) I am looking for was born about 1878. He was from Buncombe County. John Hicks uncle Samuel was the great grandfather of John H. (or B) Laughter. The lines were related but not closely per the summary of Frank Laughter's web below:

Hi Jim, Sorry for the delay in my answering you. We are on the final countdown for our son's wedding this Sat.
Your Samuel was a brother to Wiley Laughter who was my 4th g. grandfather. All I have is... Samuel married Elizabeth Carson abt. 1805 she was born abt. 1789 their children... James Hicks b. 1810 d. 1891 married Nancy Hill, John J. b. abt 1814/17 married Alzie Hill, Benjamin J. b. abt 1818 married Cecelia Anne Corn, Nancy Elizabeth married David A. Sandy, It looks like we are looking at the same line. I am the gggranddaughter of Robert William Laughter and Nancy Evans, my ggrandparents were Miles Laughter and Rebecca Rose (d/o John and Martha Rose) my grandparents were Charlie Kennedy and Martha (Pattie) Laughter, parents Samuel High and Annie Pearl Kennedy. Would appreciate any help with the line of Col. John Langford Laughter of Warren Co, NC, esp. with the identity of his mother.

I show:
Col. John Langford Laughter (b ca 1786; a teacher by trade) md (1 Aug 1809, Granville Co, NC) Ann Mary "Nancy" HUNT (b ca 1792, d/o James Hunt and Ann "Nancy Satterwhite).

Parents of John Langford Laughter are not clear to me - some researchers say he was son of John Laughter + Mary Langford w/ Mary being d/o John Langford + Martha "Patsey" Duke, but this seems to be in error, with a possible mixup in generations?? (The Mary "Polly" Langford who was d/o John Langford & Patsey nee Duke, married John P. Rose, 26 Oct 1819 in Warren Co; they are also found in the 1850 WC census).

Anyway, I show children of Col. John Langford Laughter & Ann Mary "Nancy Hunt as:
1. Henry Mitchell Laughter (b ca 1811, never married);
2. Frances Laughter (b ca 1815; md William Wortham);

Try the above site. I was able to log on just a few minutes ago. I am still trying to learn about the Laughter family but Frank has really posted more than I have on the web. I find it interesting that there is a Ollie Laughter that was from Nash Co., that is in my direct line.

She married Enoch Ruff and brought several children into that marriage with his from a prior marriage. There son Enoch Franklin was my greatgrandfather. Burial place William Pearson Laughter (1840-1900) Jackson County, Texas

I'm trying to find the burial place in Jackson County of William Pearson Laughter. He became known throughout TX as Hon. W.P. Laughter of 'Square Bale Fame' because of his crusade for square rather than round cotton bales. He died in Jackson county and his wife received Civil war pension at Edna.

I'm trying to locate his burial site for his inclusion in the second volume of _Texas Burial Sites of Civil War Notables_.

Any assistance would be greatly welcome.

The names do not sound familiar, however, I have not researched my grandmothers family for several months. There could be a connection. There is a special website set up by a descendant of the Laughters. I do not have the name but you could search for it under the Laughter name. It is quite extensive and may help you.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I finally found that site and it has helped but it has caused even more questions. My grandfather, Henry A. "Lon" Laughter was born in NC. His father, H.P., was also born in NC. My data indicates H.P. was the son of James J. Laughter but the Laughter web indicates James J.'s son was Hampton and list no children. I am slowly trying to unravel the story between H.P. and Hampton to see if they are the same (I always thought H.P. stood for Henry P. Once I can validate linkage between H.P. and Hampton.....OR....who H.P.'s father was I can then see linkage back to the 1600's via the work others on this web have done.
I am a novice to the genealogy world and would appreciate any suggestions you might have on validating my great grandfather's name and thus the data I could provide to the Laughter web.

The Rutherford Co sounded familiar. My Great Great Grandfather, John J. Laughter, was born there about 1817. His father, Samuel, was also born there in 1790. Do you have any information about John J's children?

My Nancy S. Clark, was born June 1839 in N.C.
She died in S.C.
Mrs. Mary Clark signed her death certificate in 1917.
The death cert. states her father as John Laughter, mother, ?Densdale.
Any help connecting would be greatly appreciated.

Dottie, I am Shirleen and I would be very interested in your info if you wouldn't mind. I am searching for info on my grandmother Ollie Mae Laughter, m. Henry Hobert/ Hubert Ruff. They lived in Polk Co., NC most of their married life.
Ollie died in the hospital in Rutherfordton, Rutherford Co., NC in 1954. Both are burried in the Cooper's Gap Cem. in Polk Co., NC. They had 13 children and 3 of those died in infancy.

I wish I could help you, but I'm still learning to. The best advice I can give you is to keep searching and follow each lead to the end. Be persistant and maybe something will turn up.(usually in the most unlikely place).
My mother's maiden name was Laughter, they were from Rutherford co NC. I don't see your James or Henry in my records although I do have several of each.

I read your post and went digging. I found this to be in my family also.
Sarah Laughter was born 17Oct1829 in Vigo Co., IN usa to John Laughter b. 1798 in Rutherford Co., NC [the same as I] and Mary (Polly) Crooks b. 1799 in Rutherford Co., NC according to the info I have found on Ancestry.com.
Sarah married Charles D. Wintermute b. unk. on 15 Mar 1848 in Vigo Co., IN. They had 3 CH.: Almire b. 1849; Sarah J b. abt 1850 and Emeretta b. about 1850. These two could possibly be twins.
Charles died about 1850 in ILL.
Then Sarah marr. Reuben Beals 6 Apr 1853 in Pleasantville, Cumberland, ILL
CH.: Levi 1855, Christina 1857; Mary 1859; and Reuben L. 1862 all in ILL.
Sarah died 26 Nov 1899 in Pleasantville, Cumberland Co., ILL
I am not positive on all of this, but I got the info from the Ancestry World Tree Project: Laughter Family 2
