Michigan Lavine Family

I am looking for Levene (Lavin, Lavine, Lavene) family of Mich. I believe they were of French Canadian descent. The family started out in Macomb Co., MI in 1860:
Abram (62) and Catherina (45) Lavin had the following children:
Henry (14), Esther (12), Margaret (10), Mary (6) and Joseph (4). Mary and Joseph were born in Mich. but the rest of the children were born in Canada
I believe that Esther married William DeLong in Macomb County in 1864 - her surname on the Marr. record was LaVone. I am descended through Esther and William DeLong. In 1865, there is also an Abram Levene who married a Melvina Watkins in Macomb county - although I am unsure if this is the same Abram.
In 1870 the family of Henry Lavene was living in St. Clair County, Columbus Twp. MI.
Henry (25), and wife Mary (28) and their children,
Charles (5) and Oscar (4/12). (I believe that William DeLongs parents, whom I believe to be Arrey and Maria, were living in this same twp in 1880.)
I believe that this Henry is the child of Abram and Catherina although I have not been able to prove this link.
I later find Charles Lavine and his family living in Isabella County, Deerfield Twp, MI in 1900. They are living next to Madison DeLong - who I believe is a brother to William DeLong the husband of Esther Lavine. The family consisted of Charles Lavine (35) and his wife Jane (27) and their children:
Earle (10) and Ellie E. (5). I found Charles in 1910 in Shiawassee County, Bennington Twp under the surname (Lavene). He was living with Frank DeLong (the son of William and Esther DeLong). He was listed as married but his family was not living with him.
Oscar and his family were living in Alpena Co. Mich. in 1900. Oscar (30) and Minnie (25) Lavene. Their child was Frank (5/12). Also living with the family was Maggie DeLong. Minnie, Oscar's wife, is the daughter of Solomon DeLong - another brother of William DeLong. Minnie and Frank were also listed in the 1900 Census with the family of Solomon DeLong in Isabella County, Deerfield Twp. under the surname Lavine. The family of Oscar and Minnie moved to Gogebic Co. Ironwood, Mich. They were living there in 1910 under the surname Levene. They had children Roy (5) and Margaret (3). The family later moved to Genessee County, Flint, Mich. They were living there in 1920 under the name Lavene with children Roy (15), Maggie (13) and Gladys (9). I believe that they stayed in Flint for sometime.
The DeLong family and the Lavene (Lavin, Levene Lavine) families seemed to be quite close. Does anyone have info. on these families to share?

I sure could use some help with the Pierre Lavine (his death location : Newton County, Texas) family lines. There are quite a few Joiners in this line also.
I had quite a bit of information until Hurricane Rita destroyed most of my home and all my records. I have started a Lavine family tree with some photos attached and have found some information but there are still a lot of empty spaces. If anyone could help out, I would greatly appreciate it.
I will gladly reply to anyone who might be looking along the same lines as I am.
LaDonna

I have heard that he died of TB. Also I think that he may have served the governor general of Quebec in some capacity. If you have received any additional information of interest, please let me know.
Kathryn Victory Francis (md: LaVine) b: 11 Nov 1918 Sacramento, California

I'm looking for info on Kathryn Victory Francis LaVine's family and her husband.

Kathryn Victory Francis was born 11 Nov 1918 (V-day) in California, to William Francis and "Miss" Lynch.

I have found Kathryn in the 1930 Census records for Sacramento, California where her name was misspelled on the index as "Catherine" and in the actual census as "Katherine". Either way, it's her.

But in this census, her father William Francis, is a widower. Who was her mother?? Her mother's maiden name was Lynch, born in New York, but that's all we know. Who was her family ?? Who were Kathryn's grandparents??

William Francis was born about 1884 in California. William Francis' father was born in Connecticut and his mother in Ireland. Did they have names ??

Willam Francis and his wife had 2 children listed on the 1930 census: William Francis Jr (b: 1917), and Kathryn (b: 1918).

At the time of the census, there was a housekeeper living in the home by the name of Hilda Boddy, a 21 yr old widow, and her 1 yr old daughter, Dorothy. Hilda and her parents were born in Germany.

Kathryn Victory Francis married "Mr" LaVine, who was born about 1915 and died before 1997, in or near Sacramento, California.

Who was Mr LaVine?? I'm willing to bet he had parents named Emil Alfred LaVine and Margaret W. Monaghan. According to Kathryn's probate records, he had a sister named Marjorie LaVine Cook in the Napa, California area. He also had several brothers, two of which we know to be Francis Lyle LaVine and Charles Alfred LaVine. If this is the case, there are more boys in the family ... Emil Jr, and Robert .... was one of them her husband or was there another one? And what about the sister of these boys, Marjorie LaVine (Cook) ... ?? When was she born and has she passed away ???

Does anyone know Kathryn's husband's name ?? And did she have children ??

If you can help, we'd appreciate it very much!!
KTaylor
bluewolf@onemain.com

David Charles LaVine

I'm looking for information on David Charles LaVine, b abt 1890-1891, Des Moines, IA. According to the 1920 Census for Chicago (when moved there, I have no idea), his parents were born Russia, then in the 1930 Census for Chicago, his parents were born in Iowa - can't help but love this genealogy stuff!

Then he married Edith Finklestein, b 10 May 1897 in IL, abt 1916-1917. Apparently Edith was as confused about her parents birth place as David. In the 1920 Chicago Census, her parents were were listed as being born in Russia, yet by the 1930 Chicago Census, they were born in Poland!

Now comes the "family lore" part. It's rumored that David worked for Edith's father, who owned the AJAX Lumber Co/Yard in Chicago, before they were married. Eventually, David owned his own lumberyard called D. C. Lumber on W. 51st St. in Chicago.

David and Edith had three children: Cyril Rowena, b 5 May 1918; Betty, b 1923 and Joseph, b 1927, all in Chicago. Rowena married Harry L. Simons (last name changed from Lisdovsky) and had a son, Robert Allen Simons (that would be my husband). Betty married ???? and Joseph married ???? and had two sons; Gary and ????.

David Charles was, reportedly, one of nine male children. I have no knowledge of any of his brother's but would love to find any information on them. Unfortunately, all of the relatives with any kind of information are no longer with us, thus my inability to give more information.

If this rings a bell with anyone, I would love to hear from you.

Kathy

LaVine/Levine (What's in a name?)

Hi! I need some answers here, I was born to a Gerald LaVine in Minnesota. He told me his name was originally Levine and they changed it years ago.I know that I have one more brother out there some where. My father was born April 1, 1923 and still living here in MN. He had one sister Jaqueline and his parents both died when he was young. I met my uncle "Ray" who ran the ice follies back 20 years ago. I have no idea what my "roots" are, but I would like to find my half brother whom I have never met. I didn't even know my real name until I was 15 and getting married. My grand parents raised me and they are both gone now. My mother Dolores and father "Jerry" had 3 children Laura,Donna(me) and Robert. Any info. would be helpful, I am planning on talking with my Dad further and will update here. My daughter has started a family tree here and I feel kind of useless as far as my Dad's side. My mother's side is easy since my grandparents raised me. Thank you! Donna (Jean) Heesch

LaDonna, I have the pictures you mentioned, thanks. Do you have the one of Pierre's brother William and his second wife(I think)? All I have is a zerox, but will make you a copy if you want. Have you been in touch with Wayne Wiltshire? He is one of Williams'gggrandsons?

I have tried convincing some of the older people about the dit factor and got soundly put down. Also other spellings of LaVine including the one you mentioned, same results. I did run into something to think about. I found an old couple Juan and Juanna LaVan in the 1835 census of Texas who , if I figured correctly owned land in Shelby co. This is where I think Pierre and William had and sold some land. Seems like this was a grant or something having to do with their father Joseph fighting in the Texas indapendance war with Mexico.

Our best bet is to try and get access to Father Hebert's Journal. Everytime I go to the library someone has it checked out. It is our on CD-Rom I think, but heard they cost over 300.00. I know our ggrandfather Henry was christened in the Catholic Church and I just bet a lot of the information is on one of these journals.

Are you still working on the Cemetery? I had been trying to get it all copied to put on line for Newton, but kids and grands have got in the way. You can e-mail me direct at debraj856@hotmail.com or dj856@msn.com I just live at Vidor so maybe we can get together.
