Historical sketches of some members of the Lawrence family
By Robert Means Lawrence, p.48, ISAAC LAWRENCE, Junior,

"The third son of Isaac, and grandson of Daniel, sen., was born in Plainfield, Conn., March 5, 1737. In his infancy his parents removed to Canaan, Conn., and there, March 18, 1760, he married Mary Brown. Just previous to the Revolutionary war, he went with his family to Hinesburg, Chittenden County, Vt.

On the commencement of hostilities, he left Vermont, and during the war probably lived again at Canaan, where his children, all but one, were born; but, the war being ended, he again took up his residence in Hinesburg.

In the Vermont Historical Gazetteer (October, 1867) we find the following : —
"The only settlers known to have resided in Hinesburg previous to the Revolution were Isaac Lawrence from Canaan, Conn., and Abner Chaffee. The family of Isaac Lawrence endured some of the severest hardships, so well known to the first inhabitants of Vermont Mrs. Lawrence has said that she lived ten months without seeing the face of any other woman; and that for a while one season the only food used by the family was dried pumpkins, with the little mouldy flour the children scraped from the inside of a barrel that had been wet."

In 1793 Isaac Lawrence removed to Shefford County, Province of Quebec, about twenty-five miles north of the Vermont border.”

Was Isaac Lawrence b.1737 in Caanan CT a Loyalist?
Who knows where baptismal records are located which prove the dates and PLACES of birth of the ten children of the Isaac Lawrence who was married 18 Mar.1760 in Canaan, Litchfield CT to Mary Brown, d/o Deacon Samuel Brown?
The children of Isaac Lawrence and Mary Brown are alleged to have been born in Caanan CT, Hinesboro VT and South Stukely Quebec. Obviously a child can not be born in more than one place. However his birth and his baptism can be RECORDED in more than one place. Who has seen these conflicting records? By whom were they recorded? The Laurence family appear to have been Anglican, but I am unsure whether Deacon Samuel Brown was Anglican.

If Isaac were a loyalist during the American Revolution one would expect that children born before armed rebellion began in April 1775 to be born in Caanan CT. The oldest children were Lydia b.1761, Elijah b.1763, Samuel b.1765, Isaac b.1767, and Mary b.1770. Isaac may have briefly stayed near relatives in Hinesboro VT, where at least one child-- perhaps Apame b.1772-- may have been born. By 1778 the birth of a child, Henry, was evidently recorded in South Stukely, Shefford, Quebec, followed by Erastus b.1780, Pamelia b.1782, and David b.1785. Either Isaac Lawrence or Mary Brown may have had relations living in Quebec. I am trying to interpret conflicting IGI allegations, but have not done primary research in Litchfield Co CT, Chittenden Co Vermont, or Shefford Co Quebec.
After the Revolution, at least three of the children returned to marry in in the US: Lydia is alleged to have been married about 1781 in Groton MA to David Roberts. Samuel was Married 09 OCT 1788 in Canaan CT to Frances WHEELER. Mary may have been married about 1792 in Groton MA to William LITTLEFAIR and about1793 in Hinesboro VT or Groton MA to Amos TAYLOR. Who has seen the primary records on which these allegations are based?
Is there a published account of this interesting family?
