Carole, Thank you!! I had a feeling it was A.J. Lawing, but couldn't verify because my mother passed 8 years ago, so couldn't ask her. My mother was Norma Jean "Lawing" LaMeire (husband Lawrence Joseph LaMeire). She was the daughter of Wm. Ambrose Lawing and Missouri Elizabeth Karr.

I've gotten quite a bit built into Ancestry.com, particularly from my grandmother Missouri Elizabeth. Couldn't get past grandpa Lawing.

And on my fathers side it's almost worse.

Which family member are you descended from? Hope to hear more from you and any others.

Hi Valerie: I too am descended from Wlm Ambrose Lawing b 16 Sep 1872, d 3 Mar 1948 Cureall, Howell Co, MO. I don't have a lot on this family, but maybe can clear up a little for you.
His parents were "EA" Elbert Lawing & Ruth Tilson. Wlm's
siblings were:
Samuel I b 1875;
"AJ" Alfred J b 1877 (marr Emma P Woodard);
Nancy A b 1879 (marr to Erwin Tackett); and
"EM" Elbert Ambers b ?? (Marr to Gertha J Fox).

I'm working on my family tree and on my mothers fathers side have not gotten very far. My mother was Norma Jean Lawing (married to Lawrence J. LaMeire). Her mother was Missouri Elizabeth Karr Lawing, born in July 1894, her father was William Ambrose Lawing, born Sept. 1873. I can't get past William Ambrose Lawing. I've found a E.A Lawing and a A.J. Lawing that may be, but I have no idea the names of my grandfathers siblings or parents to know if either of these are related. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to research the Lawing Name. My husband and I do have an Ambrose Lawing rifle. I would like as much info as I can get about The Ambrose Lawing Family. My father-in-law is one of the son's of Isaac Lawing. Isaac is a son of William Lawing, which was also a gunsmith in Green County Tenn. William is a son of Ambrose. Has it been proven that the Ambrose Lawing married to Louisa Frady is the same Ambrose that is on the 1857 and 1858 lists of Poor Children in Rabun County?

There is an Ambrose Lawing in the 1850 census for McDowell County, North Carolina listed under James Lawing. In 1860 they show up in Tallulah, Rabun County, Georgia.

4 Mar 1862, Ambrose, Andrew and William Lawing enlisted for the Confederacy, Company F, 52nd Georgia. Andrew was killed in Mississippi, William was taken prisoner in 1864, Ambrose was taken prisoner at Vicksburg. Ambrose was paroled in 1863 with no further information about service.

I have found James (Sarah) with son, James in Rabun County, 1870, along with William living there also. Ambrose's whereabouts are unknown unless he is the same as married to Louisa Frady, they are in NC.

I have an Ambrose Lawing in Rabun County in 1900 married to Rachel. I am trying to sort out who his parents might be.

Please help. Ruth Tilson was my great Aunt who married Elbert (Eb) Lawing. My great grandmother was Visey Lawing who married William Tilson, Ruths brother. I have been told Visey or Vicey was the daughter of Ambrose Lawing. If anyone has a scanned picture of Ambrose making a gun or the 3 bibles mentioned It would be great if you could send them to me.
