Parker Lawry

I'm still trying to find information on Parker Lawry, b.c. 1820 in Maine. He was a mariner and lived in Bangor. He married Thursha Powers, b.c. 1834. She bore two children, Charles Lewis Lawry and Theresa B. Parker and Thursha were listed in the 1850 US Fed Census in Islesboro. Thursha reportedly died in 1857. I suspect Parker may have been the son of Isaac Lawry and Welthy Parker but have not been able to make a connection. Any information on Parker or Thursha would be greatly appreciated.

My ggg-grand-father Henry Lawry was born in 1822 in Ludgven (near St. Just in Penwith), he married Mary (Lory? Harris?) and had 14 children from what I can make out. By 1883, he had moved to the US, with one of his sons, James L. Lawry (my gg-grand-father). It seems he didn't stay for long as the records that I have show he died 23 Sep 1914 in
Chewton, Victoria, Australia.

Henry's father was Richard Lawry (1800-1868) and his mother was Ann Joseph (1814 - ?)

I've been to the churchyards of St. Just, Zennor, Ludgvan, etc. and have some headstones that match, but others that are Lawry's but I'm not sure how they are related. I get stuck and can't go beyond Richard Lawry's father, Henry Lawry (1764-1821) who was married to Honor Pengelly (1761 - 1843).

After my initial post about Louise Lee Strickland/Lawry I learned that she had passed away in Norwood, Massachusetts 30 April 1993. I obtained an obituary for her from a newspaper there. The obituary states that she is the daughter of John and Abbi Lee (Trolinger) Green and had lived in Walpole and Wrentham, Massachusetts a short time.

Louise Lee Green or Strickland (she was supposed to have been adopted by Ulys S. Strickland of Odessa, TX) joined the Women's Army Corps in WWII using the last name of Strickland. Louise's mother Abbie Lee Trolinder was married to Ulys S. Strickland from 1926 to about 1968.

Louise and her husband, Gordon L Lawry, lived in Havana Cuba during the 1950s then in Siam/Thailand and Bogota, Columbia among other locations in the USA.

Louise Lee Lawry worked at the South Western Hospital in El Paso, TX in 1941. Gordon L Lawry was in Washington state at a military camp at that time.

Any additional information on Louise would be appreciated.

Sorry that's all I have.
I have the marriage certificate for James and Mary Vosper and that gave me father Joseph, so by looking up family search, Joseph matched up to the dates and he married Mary.
Family search states that he was a farmer of St. Just in Roseland but on the Census, he was born St.Columbe Cornwall. I'm confused.

If we are linked, do you want to E.Mail me as jan.hibberd@btopenworld.com

Thanks.

LOWERY DNA Project Update

Hello fellow LOWERY and related spellings of the LOWERY surname. You have seen my many post concerning our DNA project and I thought it was time to give you a little history of our project and also a recap of where we stand.

We are up to 36 members with two joining during the holdiay season. Of those 36 members we have now gotten a total of 18 different family lines. Our "yellow" group now has 7 matching members. They are said to be descended from Edmund LOWRIE born abt 1695 in England. There are two distinct lines in the group, so we are unclear how they fit in, but may be related even before Edmund.

Our "aqua" group has just received its first match. This happens to be my line and am very interested in finding out more on Thomas LOWERY b 1807 in GA and George LOWERY b 1796 in GA. They are a genetic distance of 1 and were hoping these two were actually brothers, but with more testing and members we may be able to find how they fit in.

Our "coral" group has three matches with the oldest known ancestor coming out of VA born abt 1745 and was a John LOWREY. The other matches were John LOWRY born 1804 in VA, and William H. LOWERY born unknown in Mecklenberg Co, NC.

Our "red" group represents the midwest in OH and IL. Jackson LOWRY b abt 1820 in Butler Co, OH and Joseph Fleming LOWRY b 1821 in Hamilton Co, OH.

Our "khaki" group's oldest known ancestor was Aaron LOWERY b in KY abt 1814.

The "brown" group's oldest known ancestor was John LOWRY b 1758 in VA. The other participant's oldest ancestor was Nathan LOWERY b 1827 in Warren Co, TN.

The "violet" group's oldest known ancestor was Robert LOWRY b abt 1700 in VA. The other match's oldest ancestor was John W. LOWERY b 1855 in MS.

All of our other participants can be found at our "Project Results" page. Please visit the page, note the participant's oldest known ancestors. If you think one of them may be your oldest known ancestor, please think about joining. This project will work best with more participants within our lines.

If you have any questions concerning the participants, please contact me and I will give you what information I can. Good luck and good hunting in your researches.

http://www.familytreedna.com/(okee5tmwz0kmk445isislbif)/publ...

Johnny L Lowery
Group Administator
LOWERY & Related Spellings DNA Project
jlowery000@aol.com
I just wanted to update the list on the LOWERY DNA project and hope to invite more people to join this endeavor.

The Project now has 29 members, 13 distintive family lines, and 4 matching families. I would like to invite all male LOWERY's to review our site and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

The project is growing, but we really need to get more participants to make this project work. My own family line is not yet matched with other members as are our other 9 distintive families.

Please visit the web site below and I hope to see some of you joining our group. Thanks and good luck and good hunting in your researches.

http://www.familytreedna.com/(w2cfm545m540lx45mxs1dwmb)/publ...

Johnny L Lowery
Group Administrator

obit fyi - Stanley Adams LAWRY Jr. , 1923 MASS - 2007 CA.

not related - for your info only

Lawry Jr., Stanley Adams

LAWRY-Stanley Adams Lawry, Jr. passed away on September 22, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda. Born in Dedham, Massachusetts on Oct. 9, 1923, Stan was the first born child of Stanley Adams Lawry and Ann Blair. He attended Melrose High School in Massachusetts and Hebron Academy in Maine. After earning his BA degree from Bowdoin College where he was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity, he earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He married his beloved wife of 57 years, Elaine, in 1950. Stan worked for Atlantic Richfield Company for 36 years. He was a Mason and served with United Way. In 1975, he moved his family from the east coast to Arcadia, California. After retiring from ARCO, Stan and his wife, Elaine, settled in Glendora . Stan served in the Army in World War II in the European Theater between 1942 and 1945. He served on the front lines in the Battle for Casino. Later, wounded in Germany, he spent two months in a Paris hospital before returning to battle. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Stan was a gifted athlete and played every sport he could. He played on the tennis team at Bowdoin College and won the Maine State tennis championship. Later, golf became his sport of passion. Stan had a love for all sports but held a special place in his heart for the Boston Red Sox. His greatest pride came from watching his grandsons compete in sports. When Stan was not on the golf course, you would find him at home with a stack of books next to his reading chair. He was an avid reader who completed the LA Times crossword puzzle on a daily basis. He was an enthusiastic bridge player along with his wife, Elaine, and enjoyed many years of Friday night poker games. Stan had a laugh that was contagious and a smile that won the heart of anyone who met him. Stan is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sara Elaine McLean Lawry; his daughter Leslie and her husband, John Golper; his son, Stanley III and his wife, Lila; five grandchildren, Matthew, Brian and Todd Golper; Adam and Claire Lawry. He is survived also by his sister, Eva and her husband, Alexander Sutton of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and brother, Gordon Lawry and his wife, Shirley of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Loraine Avenue Baptist Church in Glendora where Stan had served as a deacon, on Saturday, September 29 at 10:00am. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Loraine Avenue Baptist Church or the VAVS at the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center, 11201 Benton St., Loma Linda, CA.
Published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune on 9/26/2007.
I am Looking for a Captin Frank Ellison Lawry who died Aug. 4 1933 at sailor's snug harbor. He was born Nov 1861 at Bangor Maine. Since the name Lawry, both sailors and from Maine I wonder if there is a connection between them or their families

Hi, Im not sure if I have contacted you previously. My gg grandfather was also Joseph Thomas Lawry. His son, Jospeh#2(joseph thomas) had a son, John, who was my grandfather that came to America in the 1870's, settling in Plumas Co., California. I have some information if you still need it concerning some of the England line. I only have John's info for USA as I do not know where his siblings went --- other than I understand most came to the US.

Charles Lewis Lawry

I am looking for information about Parker Lawry and Thursa Powers of Maine. They were the parents of my great-grandfather, Charles Lewis Lawry, born 15 Feb 1858 (or 1857), in Bangor, Maine. I haven't been able to find any records of either Parker Lawry or Thursa Powers (died 1858?) and would appreciate any help possible.
