Fincher, Shirley Cable

Shirley Cable Fincher, age 61, of Marion, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 7, 2006 in the St. Joseph's Oncology and Cancer Unit in Asheville. Born in McDowell County on March 9, 1945, Shirley was a daughter of the late Wince Henry and Maggie Laws Cable. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. She was a 25-year cancer survivor who fought the fight, ran the race and won. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. In addition to her parents, a brother, William Kenneth Cable preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 42 years, Alan Fincher, of the home. Although she had no children, she was a nurturing mother and grandmother to hundreds of children who she called her own and who loved her like a mother. Also surviving are five brothers and four sisters: Everett Cable and wife, Geneva, of Marion, Mary Moorefield and husband, Bill, of Lancaster, S.C., David "Danny" Cable and wife, Glenda, of Old Fort, Ila Lewis and husband, Jerry, of Marion, Gerald Cable and wife, Helga, of Marion, Wilma Russell and husband, Ronnie, of Marion, Donald Cable and wife, Faye, of Wilmington, Marlene Cable of Marion and Eddie Cable and wife, Ginny, of Marion; a sister-in-law, Bernice Cable of Marion and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Millard Kiser and Dr. Tom Walker officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 9, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon's International, P.O.
