Augustus Lawton married Rosina Sherman. Lived in Westport, MA
Children were Mary, Clarence, Edward & Susan
His sister Sophia Lawton married Nelson Reed. Lived in Fall River, MA. Their daughters were Clara, Bertha, Annie and Matilda.
Looking to find descendants who might provide family stories, oral histories etc. Am documenting the tragic death of Augustus's brother, Nelson. I have a huge file of facts but nothing 'personal' about the family.
Many thanks, Lynda

Hello Gail, it looks like we are related. I just looked over the Beury ancestory section of my dad's, George Price Venable Beury, book and noticed many of the things you mentioned were what I read this morning. I'm curious to know if there is any information that dates further back than John Beury, Christian Beury's father, who was the collier in Cheshire among other places as well. I am really hoping that at some point I can find a link to Whales in the Beury line and find the link back to France, where in Normandy on vacation, my dad stumbled upon a List of Knights in the battle of Hastings, 1066, that had a Beuery or some version of that spelling.

He was a brother to my GGGGfather Edmond Lawton.

William b.Nov. 8, 1812 in Kilmacahill,Cloyne, Co. Cork, Ireland
Sponsers-James Donovan and Mary Walsh
My records are from Mallow Heritage Centre which is now online. I received my records by mail a few years back but see you can now get records online for $5 Euros per record.

Yes, I am a Lawton...my grandfather, William Joseph Lawton, was born in Bandon, Co. Cork, in 1871 and eventually made his way to the west coast of the U.S.
His daughters, my aunts, remembered the "old family name" as Laghnane or O'Lachtnain (as I believe it's spelled in Irish) and their two Irish-born grandmothers (who must have been born in the 1850s) would speak Irish when they didn't want anyone else in the family (the kids) to understand. Would love to see your document about the Lawton/Laghnane name change.
When our original Irish name was changed, it went to "Lawton" in Co. Cork (and other things in other counties, like Locklin, Leenane, Lochnane, etc.)...and we are part of an old Dalcassian Sept (tribe). So this is the old Irish stuff -- not descendants of English settlers.

According to my records, she was born about 1885 and was married to John Orr-who was born about 1874, and lived in Pocotaligo, South Carolina (Jasper County). John and Deborah had five children; Angus D. (1901-1929), Eugene R. (1905-1980), Leon L. (1907-?), Mallie O. (1909 - ?), and Aleatha Z. (1912-2006). Angus D. Orr was my Great-Grandfather.
JOB and son ROGER BOON LAWTON (1793-1857) * Newport, RI

Hurray!!! After 25 years of searching, I have found elusive ancestor Roger Boone Lawton (1793-1857) born Newport, RI. Residences Newport, Charleston, SC and Amesbury, MA. Roger was the son of Job and Mary (Rathburn) Lawton, Quakers. The family came mid 1700's, not the early 1600 Lawtons we had been concentrating on. Does anyone connect with this family? Supposedly the children of Job and Mary (Rathburn) Lawton were Mary, Sarah, Hannah, Charles, Abigail, Roger Boon and Job Jr. I will gladly share what info I have. Thank you.

Kenneth LeRoy Lawton was born on 9 Dec. 1923 in Johnson City, New York and he died on 29 July 1984 in Binghampton, New York. He was married to Patricia Clague Anderson in 1963, she passed away in 2007. As far as any info for Harry the only info I have and my husband can remember is the he was married to Ethel May Cuttington. My husband never knew his grandfather therefore I think he was deceased before my husband was born. My husband seems to think that his father Kenneth had a few sisters, the only one I have any info for is Gladys Lawton and she passed away in 1995. Kenneth's children include William Allen Lawton (my husband), David Lawton by Gladys Alberta Gumaer we know that he lives in Binghampton but we are unsure of how to get any info from him, Kenneth LeRoy Lawton,Jr (Deceased 2007), Lauraleen Lawton (Deceased) and Gladys Lawton DeVaul (Deceased). So as you can see anyone that would have any info is deceased. Any info you would have would help.

I am doing my family tree and I am looking for information on my husband's grandfather Harry K. Lawton. He was married to an Ethel Cuttington and had a son Kenneth LeRoy Lawton. This is as much information as my husband's family has as his mother has since passed away and so has his father so I am stuck at this point in the family tree as I don't have a birth date. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks. Laura Lawton

Hi, You sent me an e-mail concerning Robert. I guess you are trying to find his ancestry in England. I'm afraid he is not one of my relatives. My ancestors are based in Dobcross, Saddleworth and, bar one who went to Canada in the 1880's, we have no relatives who went over that early.

Regards Ian Lawton

Yes, I am sure that that spelling along with my Laghnane's were used in that area(Cork) up until about 1850's. I have actual birth records that recorded the transition from Laghnane to Lawton. One thing I think we can establish from the old names mentioned is that our ancestors were of the old Irish and not the Lawton's of England. I am getting ready to do a DNA test on my 85 yr old dad and can't wait to see what the ancestral results will be.

H. L. Lawton's son burned in barn

Appears in the Terrell Times-Star, Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, 25 August 1893 ...

Burned to Death

Daingerfield, Texas, August 18 - The little sons of Mr. H. L. Lawtonof this place were playing the barn today and it is supposed they had matches and set the barn of fire. One of the youngsters got outside, but the other perished in the flames. He was about ten years of age. His mother ran up a ladder, got in sight and called him. He started, but the fire by that time was too hot, and he fell back and was burned up. When he was got out of the burning ashes, it was found that his legs were burned off above the knees, and his body was so badly burned as to be unrecognizable, and presented a most ghastly sight.
