Are you decended from Quartermaster Laycock of the NSW Corp who died in sydney in 1809 ? So am I !
Good news, after a visit to the National Archives in London & hours / days of seaching, I have discovered he was previoulsy a Sergent in the 2nd Horse Grenadier Guards for 11 years and was discharged when it was disbanded on June 14th 1788 aged 32years. At his time of entry he was a shoemaker/cordwainer and was living in Kingston Surrey, very close to the National Archives in London.
I have references for those who want to verify this find
