If you could sent me an email address I would really like to continue to talk about my Dad. (Van S. Layman)Now that I have a new laptop I'll be able to log on and check for replys more frequently. Again please get a hold of me. I feel that if we are talking about the same person, we will have a lot to talk about. Seriously talk about. Thanks.

I've been successful with my families Layman line, but there are a few blanks.

I have Samuel Layman (b abt 1821 in Penn) I'm not 100% sure what his wife's name is, but my guess is Jane. Two of their children are:
George W. (b. abt 1848)
Henry (b. oct 1849 Penn)

George W. married an Eliza Harris (b. abt 1855 in Ohio) in abt 1877. They had at least 10 children: George Alex, Lilian L, Myrta, Leroy, Nellie D, Alta, William Henry & Nora. Two more died before 1900.

Leroy Layman is my Great-Great-Grandfather. He was born in April of 1882. He married Lillian Alverta Ross (b. 20 Apr 1884 in Canada) on 24 Dec 1907 in Michigan. They had four children:
Leah Irene (b 9 Nov 1908 d. 3 May 1974)
Louise
Robert
Lilo J

Please let me know if you have any additional information on this line. I'm more than willing to share.
My great great grandfather was Heinrich Layman. His wife was Lydia Flohr. They are pretty well covered by some researchers, as are the Lehman/Laymans. My great grandfather was Jacob Layman, married to Mary Jane Perkins Dixon Layman, and their son SA Lehman was Samuel Augustus Lehman, my grandfather. His wife was Emma Adele Hipkins.

The daughter of Henry, Margaret Layman, was married to Jeremiah Kanode and had 11 children. Some of these children have been followed, line-wise. Margaret died in 1902. She is buried in Mt. Olivet Cem, Frederick Md.
If I can help you with any of this, please let me know.
Jacqueline Lehman Davidson
fredjacqueline@bellsouth.net

Yes, I am a Layman, but haven't researched cousins enough to be of much,if any, help in the Hamrick's line. I have checked the local phone book & found a Donald Hamrick SR., but a call to him went for nought. His mother's name was Wamsley, so I suppose he isn't close enough in the line you are looking into. He did say that as far as he knew there were no Layman's in his earlier generations. I found no other Hamricks listed in Fairmont,Morgantown, or Clarksburgphone books that have any of Howard or Bessie's offfspring names from the Census.
If I should find a later Census with additional children, I will try to check them for you.

I have just started to try and up date my family tree. My Great Aunt Julia Flohr Schmick typed up a chart for the family in 1990 and that is where I am starting. In her notes Mr S A Lehman was mentioned as having his Mother as a Flohr and that he presented the Flohr family with a Banner in 1929. (I have the info on the banner as well). From your information, it looks like it was not his mother but perhapes his great great grandmother. If you have a list of the children I would like very much to add it to my information. My Dad, Louis S Flohr Jr (B. 1-20-25) tells me that, at the family reunion everyone that had any connection to the family showed up with a cover dish and had a great picnic. Most lived close to the area (Rocky Ridge, Reisterstown and Westminster )and it was a social occasion for everyone.

I know where to find her but I would like to know where he came from and if he has other aunts and uncles in the US. He was a servicman in the United States Navy. From what I understand is that he was addopted. This I don't know for sure. I do know that he was married prior to my mother. I would like to contact any other children that he had from that marrage as well. Lot's of unanswered questions I'd like to get answers for. Thanks to the person that reads this and can give me any informaton.

I wonder if we are related (albeit distantly). My grandfather was Oral Guy Layman, who was the son of Sanford Layman and Clara Wilson. Sanford had roots in Marion County (Paw Paw). I got a lot of names off the One World Tree though I don't have any confirmation. Sanford's parents may have been John Layman (Leyman) and Sarah Sattersfield. It keeps going back - I don't know what branch you guys descend from but maybe we are related! Sanford's only other child to survive childhood was Rosella and I understand she lived in Fairmont.

- Tina

Re: Layman of E. Tenn.

Hi Patti,

I just did a quick check & the Elizabeth Brimer you mention married
Christopher Layman, not John Layman. Christopher's did have a brother John
who married Nancy McGuire in Jefferson Co., TN 19 Jan 1801. Christopher and
this John were sons of David Layman b 26 Apr 1736 in Lancaster Co., PA & d
bef 10 Jun 1817 in Jefferson Co., TN.

Rev. Daniel Laymon did have a brother John Laymon,(who I am descended from)
but he married (1) Magdelena ? & (2) Jane Goodpasture. John Laymon was b
abt 1750, lived in Fredericks Co., VA, Botetourt Co., VA, Washington Co.,
TN, Bath Co., KY, Hamilton Co., OH, Warren Co., OH, Shelby Co., IN, and
Bartholomew Co., OH where he died in 1834. The relationship between this
John & Daniel has been proven with DNA testing. This family is not related
to the David Layman family mentioned above (also proved by DNA). I would be
glad to share any info that I have on this family & would be interested in
data you have on descendents of Susannah Laymon & Samuel Lewis - you can
reach me at slaymon@lightspeed.net

Steve Laymon
