Another Killing in Wills Point

Robert Layne was shot and instantly killed by Guy Allen at Wills Point last Monday evening. After the killing Allen quietly went to his home about four miles from Wills Point and when followed up by the officers admitted that he had shot Layne. the tragedy resulted from the seduction of young Allen’s sister, a wrong which he alleged had been committed by Layne. The girl’s father had been in town in company with his son all day Monday trying to effect amicable adjustment of the matter. They asked that Layne marry the girl. Layne denied ever having wronged her and said that he would get witnesses to disprove the accusation and go to Allen’s home on Tuesday and if the girl in the face of the witnesses averred that he had wronged her he would marry her. It was thought by the friends of the parties that this proposition was agreed to, as the old man Allen went home apparently satisfied. Young Allen remained, however, and late in the afternoon, about 6:30 o’clock, shots were heard in Layne’s house. Some persons rushed in and found Layne behind the door dead with a bullet hole through his temple. It was afterwards found that he was also shot through the bowels. Allen had made his exit from the house undiscovered and had gone to his home where he was followed by officers and made prisoner.

The victim, Robert Layne, is a nephew of Pat Layne who was once a business man of this city.
