Charlotte B LAYTON m John Appleton HASKINS 1867 MI

Charlotte B LAYTON b 1845 Erie or Genesee NY married John Appleton HASKINS 24 Sept 1867 in Kalamazoo MI. They are residing in Colfax and Selma, Wexford Co MI in 1900.

I believe that Charlotte was daughter of Francis LAYTON b abt 1810 NJ and Margaret Ann WAGNER also b NJ (according to biography of Ransom Aaron Layton in 1907 History of Allegan County MI). They migrated to Genesee Co NY by 1850 census. Margaret died btw 1846- 1850, but Francis and children migrated to Kalamazoo MI by 1860. So far, I have the following children for Francis and Margaret:
-John b abt 1837 NY m Christina ?
-Mary b abt 1868 MY
-Ransom Aaron b 1841 Genesee NY d 1899 Allegan MI m Hannah Alvira LEACH. Lived in Watson, Allegan MI.
-Charlotte B b 1845 Erie or Genesee NY m John Appleton HASKINS/HASKIN 1867 Kalamazoo, MI
-Henry b abt 1846 NY

John Appleton HASKINS b abt 1844 Kitley, Leeds ON Canada was son of Ithamar HASKINS and Sarah KOYLE who lived in Cheboygan MI. Both John and his father served in the Civil War joining in Trubull Co OH. Ithamar's father was Nicholas HASKINS, my 5g grandfather. I am a Haskins researcher not directly related to this line, but I hope this helps someone.

Susan was not the daughter of Henry Layton and Ann McVannee. Her parents are listed as JOHN LAYTON and SUSAN HODNIT at her baptism. Her father was noted as "late" and had immigrated from the US. Could John be Henrys brother??? Susan also had a brother named JOHN (born about 1845 who married her husband's sister.

Her baptism record:
SUSAN LAYTON, daughter of JOHN LAYTON and SUSAN HODNIT . SUSAN was conditionally baptized on 25 May 1880. Her sponsors were CHRISTIANE MURDOCH and Priest JAMES ROGERS. From the St. Raphael’s RC Church Records, Blackville NB:
On 25th May 1880, Mrs Susan Brennan (nee Layton) profession of faith and conditional baptism. On this 25th of May 1880, I the undersigned, received the profession of faith and baptism conditionally of Susan Layton (the daughter of late John Layton and Susan Hodnit) aged 28 years, wife of Daniel Brennan and immediately after administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to the said person; the sponsors being Christiane Ann, widow, of the late George Murdoch and me, Priest James Rogers of Chatham NB.

I have more details on the children and grandchildren of Henry if your interested in exchanging info.

Hi

There were also early Laytons in NY I have William Layton marrying Joan Harding 1672/3 in Mahattan! His son Jan Laecton married Maria Konigs 1698 in Mahattan. There son William Layton (1701-1778) married Magrite Ketelhuyn and came to Wheatly Hill in LI 1754.

There many variations on how the name is spelled.

hbell11804@yahoo.com

Being female, I wasn't sure about having my DNA tested. I have heard for sometime that DNA only goes down the male line. My ancestor is Layton Romine m. Rose Canterbury, 2nd wife Elizabeth ?. I am from the 2nd wife. Layton ended up in Sevier Co TN after the Rev. War. If you could give me a little info, I certainly am considering it strongly. I know nothing about the test would be used. I will give you my e-mail address and would appreciate your help.
I am not directly related to this family, but my husband is.
albert and Catherine had a son named Rueben who had a daughter named Emily Katherine. She married Morris Keely. My mother-in-law is a Keely. The Layton family is so numeruos that I have had trouble figuring who belongs to who. I had albert's father as William and his father as John. I am probably incorrect. I would love to have a picture of Albert and Catherine
My e-mail is garry@coastalnow.net. I live in Georgia.
How are you related to the Laytons. Albert and Catherine Wagoner Layton's daughter was Lydia who married Robert S.
Bledsoe, They had a daughter Annie who married Erastus Sanford Doll. Their daughter was Esther Viola Doll who married John Clark Jones. Their son Roger Jones was my father. In my notes: a John Layton was father of Albert.
I ran across photos of Albert and Catherine Layton. Albert Layton's birthdate was listed as 1804 so I feel like our Albert and Catherine are the same.
How are you related to the Laytons? Do you have an E-mail address?
Thanks,
Roberta Ridgway.

This post is for every one who has links to New Jersey. The best way to prove your tree is to do your Y-DNA. My new found Cousin Robert F,and I (Leslie), did our DNA on Ancestry,(now $49) and matched our trees. We are descendants of William Layton of Monmouth NJ. We need more people to do their DNA.

My Laytons have descendants living in Hope & Blairstown to this day. Was your William a Civil War Soldier?

Reference cited here are well known, but unfortunately rely upon a single letter "W" rather that "Y" in the supposed will to establish Lawton as the ancestral name. There are 15 other instances among the records of this William Layton using the name Layton (with a y). There is no suggestion that William wrote his own name either way since he made his mark (not signature) on at least one legal document.

I have made a detailed examination of transcribed documents and will be glad to send it to those may be interested rather than citing secondary sources.

I seem to have hit a road block.
I am looking for information about the Layton line from Sampson County NC.

Isaac W Layton born 14 March 1841 in Northern Division, Sampson, North Carolina, USA and died 22 Dec 1912 in Caw Caw, Orangeburg, South Carolina, USA. He married an Idella Rebecca Stabler.

From the censuses I gather that his mother was Beady/Beedy. I do not know who his father is or any information on his mother.

Any information on these Laytons would be a huge help

Thanks
Laura

I am searching William Layton 1812, his second marriage was to Mary Jane Powell, and in about 1860. They lived in Geneva Alabama, but I think maybe the layton line originated in PA then to North or South Carolina then to Alabama.

Hi Richard,

I am definitely not a descendant of William of Monmouth NJ, as my line appears to originate in Norfolk (England) around 1600 and my haplogroup is currently designated as I2b1* (cont 2a?).

I have long been trying to recruit male Laytons to my Y-DNA project (http://www.familytreedna.com/public/LAYTONsurnameUK/default....) with the aim of identifying British LAYTON/LEIGHTON lines and their regions of origin - unfortunately with little success to date. In an offline database I do, however, have some odd results from Leslie LAYTON and Robert F LAYTON, who believe that they are descended from a William LAYTON (supposedly b abt 1630 Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England - the possible LAWTON connection?). If you know of any other LAYTONs who have tested or might be interested in testing their Y-DNA, perhaps you could kindly put them in touch with me?

I would be most interested in hearing your current views on your family's origins.

Yours,

Ian G. Layton (northern Sweden)
(ian.layton@geography.umu.se)
Of possible interest is the fact that LEATON is the name of a Shropshire village, just North-West of Shrewsbury. This spelling is not found anywhere else, to my knowledge.

Cheers,

Ian
