The other photo is identified
as Ethel Leamon. She is riding in a cart pulled by a goat.

I found Ethel and Edwin in the 1920 Census for Grandville, Jasper County, IL with their parents
Lester, CM (Carrie May), and brother Harry.

Please contact me if you have an interest in these photos.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

When was your Toby born? I have a Samuel Leamon born Feb 22, 1819 in Hawkins Co. TN who married Anna Jane Brookshire born abt 1825. All of their children were born in McMinn Co., between 1843 and 1866. They moved to Sumach GA around 1870 as Anna Jane died in Sumach Ga 26 Aug 1877, and Samuel died their Aug 7, 1896. The family appears on the McMinn census on the 1850 and 1860 census have not been able to find them in 1870 but they are on the 1880 Murray Co. GA census.
Just recently received information on Samuel and Anna Jane parents.

Samuel's parents were Garsette Leamon and Elizabeth Lea Hicks. With such an unusual first name you would think he would be easy to find.
Anna Jane parents were James Brookshire and G Ray.

I have never been able to find anything on either Garsette Leamon or Elizabeth Hicks or any of their children, and nothing on Anna Jane parents or her siblings.
If you have come across any of these names please contact me.
Hi- I thing your Barbara Leaman may be my g-g-g-grandmother. The dates match her birth date per a copy of a patterson family bible family records page. Barbara [no maiden name listed] married James Patterson, and second son was Daniel Leaman Patterson. The family came from Lancaster County, PA, and then moved to Belmont County, Ohio.

Faith - if you're still around, would there be any chance of getting a copy (digital would be fine) of that bible page?

Anderson moved his family back and forth between TN and GA too. I looking forward to your reply.

I also have Leamon's from TN. I first found them on the 1850 McMinn TN census, Samuel born abt 1820 is as far back as I have been able to go, he married Anna Jane Brookshire born abt 1825 ( it took forever to find Anna maiden name)which happened to be on one of the children obit. They had 11 children and also moved back and forth between TN and GA with some of the children going down into Fl. There are no male Leamon left on my side to take a DNA test but keep hoping I will find one among one of the other children. I remember hearing they were Dutch/German

She doesn't know anything about him except he was born in 1869 and died in 1936. I have tried to trace the Leamon side of her family but hit a road block with James. She doesn't know who his father or mother are or any siblings.

Anderson Leamon

Hi,
I'm looking on any information on Anderson Leamon (Leman/Lemons) born abt. 1826 in Tennessee and died abt. 1877 in Tennessee. He married Martha "Patsy" Gardner in abt. 1845. They had the following children: Samuel Thomas, Elizabeth, Louisa, Frances, William Hamilton, Matilda, Alfred Jefferson, James M., and Mary Elizabeth. All children were born in either Tennessee or Georgia as the family moved back and forth between the two. My Dad has done the DNA testing and we don't match with the Laymon from Tennessee, but we do match with Leman surname from Scotland. I think there's a possiblity that Anderson could have been orphaned as child and was an indentured servant. I'm waiting on a book from library that will let me know, hopefully, if the two are the same. Any help would be great. I have lots of information on descendants if anyone is related to this family.
Sheila Leamon-Tallent
Esther and Frederick Maeulen are my gr-Aunt and gr-Uncle. They were married in St. Louis Oct. 20 1947 but lived next door to me in Williamsport, Lycoming Co. Pa. They lived part of the year in NYC at the Holland Hotel for his work as back stage manager for plays. Esther had a brother, George and Robert and their mother was Elizabeth H Leamon 1851-1952 also lived two doors down on the same street, and father George R. 1845-1926. A .Daniel, d. 1869 and Christianna, d. 7/20/18?? I think they are the parents of George, that married Rebecca. all are buried at Wildwood cemetery in Williamsport, Lycoming Co. PA.. I have pictures but they are not too good. I will make another trip maybe next year.

I am also trying to find information on the same Robert Leman on the 1850 census in Middleburg, Schoharie, New York. I think he could be the Robert Leman I am looking for who is shown on the 1880 census in Leroy, Dodge, Wisconsin with his wife Abigail and three grandchildren, one of which is an ancestor of mine. The ages and birth places fit for both Robert and Abigail, and I am thinking that Abigail was probably his second wife, but I need more information. Have you found any more info on this family?

Hi Ginger --

I would love to discuss the Leamon family with you. I sent an email, but perhaps it got filtered out. I have a cousin who has researched the family, but she is convinced that James A's parents were Robert Leamon and Isabella Murray. We have found no definite proof, however, so I'm quite interested in seeing what you may have.

I posted this message a few years (and a few e-mail addresses) back, and I thought I'd try again.

Original --
My GGGGrandfather was James A. Leamon. I have heard that he was born about 1842 in New Market, Highland County, Ohio. He was married to Sarah E. Bates in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa in 1870. After three children, and (hopefully) a full life, he died in 1907 in Wapello. If this information rings a bell with anyone, I would certainly like to hear from you.

Faith --
I found a message you posted last year in the Mailing List for Leamon. You mentioned a family Bible, and included the name of James A. Leamon, possibly born in Ohio.
My GGGGrandfather was James A. Leamon, and I have found out from other family members that he was born in New Market, Highland County, Ohio in 1842. The name and birthyear match what you mentioned in your posting.
Have you been able to find any more information in the past year? My GGGG ended up in Wapello, Louisa County, Iowa, and married into the Bates family.

Hi Sandi

As far as I can find out, my Leamon family came from Pennsylvania through Ohio (and evantually Iowa and California). Haven't seen any connections to NY or Chicago. Now, another branch of my family (Erickson) had a very strong presence in Wisconsin and Minnesota (gee, with a name like Erickson???), but I'm afraid that's about as close as I can come.

If I hear of any other connections, I'll sure shoot them off to you.

I have also been told that my Leamon family was German-Dutch, they are from the Tennessee area. Have only been able to trace my 2 great grandfather Samuel born abt 1820 back to Hawkins TN. In 1850 and 1860 they are found in McMinn Tn. NO clue where they were in 1870, but in 1880 they are in Murray Co GA. Since I have not been able to locate parents or siblings I am at the brick wall. If you have been able to to find any information on German-Dutch Leamons please let me know. Willing to exchange information

Re: United Kingdom Leamon

Dear Genevieve,

I was interested to see your message about the Leamons.

My ggg grandfather was James Leamon, a Brithsh soldier
who was captured during the Battle of Trenton (New Jersey)
in 1776 by my paternal ggg grandfather, William Wallar, as Leamon fled through the American lines.

Our family records report that Leamon was from Scotland or
was a Scotsman. I have been unable so far to identify the
name Leamon as a Scottish surname. I have read that the
name is a variation of the English name Lemon.

Your posting is the first time I have seen an indication that
our family legend about James Leamon being Scottish is
true. I'm very happy to see this. Do you have any more on
the origin of the Leamons?

I'm in touch with other descendants of James Leamon and
I know this information will mean a lot to them.

We have found a Corporal Leamon of the 16th Light Dragoons
in the in a list of prisoners at Lancaster Barracks in Pennsylvania in Sept., 1777. This is where all prisoners of
the Battle of Trenton were taken. Although most of the soldiers in Trenton were "Hessians," there were 20 British
regulars of the 16th Light Dragoons (mounted troops) present.

Let me know if you have found anything new. We have been
unable to identify our James Leamon on British Army muster rolls.

Best Regards,

Jim Waller

waller106@hotmail.com

Tonia,

I'm sorry I don't have direct information on Harvey Ross Leamond Sr in MS. Think there is possibly some connection between our families having the names Ross and Leamond or Leamon or Lemmon both in common. In what area of Mississippi did Harvey live?

TKS
Margie
