I have been researching my Great Uncle Charles Henry Lear and have found that he enlisted to the H Cable Section of Royal Engineers on 21st September 1914 and was also part of 15th Signal Coy, he left for France on 8th July 1915 and returned in June 1919. His paperwork says that he was a Driver - does anyone know what this would have involved

His service number was 52716.

Looking through his records, he was awarded the Medailla d'honneur avec Glaives en Bronze and it also has a note which says "London Gazette 17.3.20". I was hoping that someone could help shed some light on this medal - what is it? I can only find limited information and can't find for what reason he would have been awarded this. Would there have been a note regarding it in the London Gazette?
