A Leath, Leith, Leeth surname DNA project has been established and is seeking new members.

Some of the objectives of the Leath Surname Project are to establish connections between existing Leath lines, to confirm/reject theories regarding ancestors, to identify the paternal country of origin, to increase interests in new areas of research, and to validate existing research.

To participate in the project, you must be a Leath, Leeth, or Leith male (or other common variant of the name). Because females do not carry their father's Y-DNA, they cannot participate directly.

But, if you are a female interested in tracing your direct paternal line, you can have a male relative with a Leath, Leeth, Leith surname do the testing.

The project has been established at FamilyTreeDNA, and more information on the project as well as genetic testing and genealogy is available at www.familytreedna.com.

Is the name of William C Leath 1804-1880 who migrated from Amelia County, Virginia to Early County, Georgia associated with this Leath study? His parents were Lewis Leath 1775- and Clarissa Walthall 1772.

Edna Leath was married to by Great-Uncle Glenn Henry Schoen. He was born Jan 30, 1892 in Edgewood, Effingham County, Illinois, son of Joseph and Carrie (Miller) Schoen. I have further information if you are interested and would love to hear from you.

These Lamar Co/Red River Co. , TX, Leaths are indeed difficult to trace. I have found no connection between them and my Leaths. I, too, believe that the Wards and Leaths are half siblings.

You can find the same family also listed in 1860 in Red River Co., TX, p. 73/93 as WORD instead of WARD:

I would like to find someone with knowledge of the above named Leath males. I do not have much information, but I hope someone might recognize the initials. What I know is that J N is b abt. 1837 in unknown county in TN. The other is 4 yrs younger. I think these are half brothers to my ancestor Nancy Ann Ward born 9/05/1847 possibly in TX, but TN is a possible. The mother of Nancy is listed only as L. A. on the 1860 Lamar County TX census. The older of the boys was a school teacher at the time. I found him in Somervell,TX census in 1880 still teaching.

I'd love to find some information on them and hopefully find where in TN the family came from. I'd also like to know if these are Nancy's brothers as I believe. ANY help appreciated.

I am the co-author of the Leath book you asked about. Our book covers only the descendants of James Leeth/Leath who settled in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia about 1734/5. It does not cover the family of your James W. Leath who apparently descends from a Southside Virginia Leath family.

Martha Leath married Ninian Tannehill on 23 Feb 1788 at Frederick Co., Virginia. Martha's maiden name was supposedly Adler. Does anyone know the first name of her husband with the last name Leath? The marriage may have been between Martha Wade and - Leath. Martha was apparently married three times, to a Wade, a Leath, and her last husband was Ninian Tannehill.

I am trying to find if indeed Nancy J Shelton is the mother to Mary Smith.
Nancy Tarver married Palatiah SHELTON Union County Tenn and is found in 1870 Whitley and 1880 Bell . Palatiah died in 1881 Bell County and nancy remarried William Smith Bell County 1883 and is listed an Nancy Smith in the 1890 veteran's census for Bell County but is found in son James Harvey SHELTON's household 1900 Claiborne as Nancy Shelton widow . She had a daughter Mary Shelton who married James Madon in Bell County.
Trying to find if Mary Smith could be daughter of William Smith and previous wife to Nancy Tarver Shelton.
I can't find the divorced Mary Smith Leath or daughter Milla J Leath anywhere after the 1910 Bell County census listing.
Any members of the Leath families in Knox that might help,
Ambrose's brother William married May Belle ( Mabel Duncan) and is found both in Bell County and Knox County.

James Leroy Leath, Army Medic in WW2

I am looking for anyone whom might have information on the whereabouts and life of T/4 James L. Leath. He was from Bethpage, Tennessee, and served in the 91st Division, 363rd Infantry Regiment, Medical Detachment in World War Two. He earned a Bronze Star in 1944 during the Rome-Arno Campaign. He was a buddy of my Grandfather, Haskel M. Reels; having served together in the same unit. Any information would be deeply appreciated.

I have info on Leath from New York/Jersey City NJ. Obituaries for Nathalie Leath Oram - Phillip Leath, Edward F. Leath, letters referencing them as Uncle Edward including their children Della, Alfred, Edward. Also a postcard from Anna Ziegler to "Aunt Katie" (Catherine Euler) from Signac - with the photo as a country store stamped "unreadable" Rest, Singac, NJ Phillip Leath Prop"
I believe I have photos also, but at this time, I'm unsure who's who.
I am looking for the connection between the Leath's to my line of Conover's and Euler's; (Catherine Euler is mentioned as sister - but cannot find any information on a Catherine Leath or any information prior to 1900.) Catherine Euler is my ggrandmother, as well as, my grandmother prior to marriage) I do not believe this Catherine Euler is the same - but perhaps married into my line of Euler's - and she was always referred to as Katie.

Any info on this line of Leath/Oram/Conover/Ziegler/Euler (they are all connected somehow - perhaps through daughters marriages) I would greatly appreciate it.

Huge brick wall with the Leath family in NYC and Jersey City.
Looking for James Thomas Leath b: Canada abt 1848 m: Catherine Noll abt 1870 had James d: young, Catherine d: young, Philip, Edward, Nathalie. Lived in NYC until about 1882 (Catherine m: Thomas H Conover in 1881 had Catherine m: Euler and Mary m: Ziegler) moved to Jersey City. Philip lived in Singac - also worked for the Herald Tribune in NYC, Edward was a fireman, lived in Lindhurst and Jersey City,Nathalie m: Edward Oram buried Lutheran Cemetery, LI.
I can find Catherine Noll living on Delancey St in 1870, James Leath living on Pike St in 1870, Catherine's father Michael Noll living on Delancey St in 1880, Thomas Conover living with first wife Rebecca on Broome St in 1880 - Catherine and the three remaining children have disappeared. The children Edward, Philip and Nathalie show up again in 1900.
Help!!!
