hello muriel my grandfather migrated to australia in 1926/7 with his wife & 4 children they came from birkenhead where he was born c 1883 my father was born at wallacey in 1919 they may be from the family you are / were following up rob leatham

Hi Muriel:
I am the great great grandson of John Cooban Leatham, who was born in Tranmere, Birkenhead, in 1826 and had four children, one of whom, William moved to Bolton around 1892,where I still live.
I have pulled together a fair amount of family history if you're interested.

After speaking to my father-in-law Robert Letham born 1905 was the son of John Robertson Letham who married Ellan Elder. Anyone able to assist with any dates of birth, wedding date etc, as I have been unable to find either of them on the 'net'.
I would imagine they would have been born about 1875, give or take 10 years. Thanks in advance, Martin

the LEATHAN branch is connected to irish royality i have found 27 generations of "Kings of Ireland"... 1 ancestor was married to a King of Judah, another to the King of Gauls...etc would love to hear from anyone who can give me more infomation on my family

Is anyone on-list related to Peter Leatham, born 1885 in Musselburgh, near Edinburgh, Scotland? His father was a miner from County Durham, England. Peter was a champion button accordion player and made commercial records in 1920. His daughter, Chrissie, later became a famous performer and teacher on the piano accordion.

John Letham was the son of John Letham and Janet Chalmers. John Letham and Johan or Jean Henderson were married 13Jul1849 in Largo,Scotland. Children for this couple were:
1)Janet Letham born 18Jan1856 Dunfermline,Scotland married Archibald Callander
2) George Letham born 29 Mar 1858 Dunfermline,Scotland died 25 Jan 1861
3)James Letham born 21 Aug 1860 Dunfermline,Scotland died
26 Mar 1942 Cowdenbeath. married Catherine Brown in 1884 and Mary Ann Beveridge in 1915.
4)George Letham born 21 Jul 1868 Dunfermline,Scotland.
Interested in connecting with any one who has this family in their tree and can share more info. Johan or Jean Henderson was my gr great grandfather's sister. I am in Canada and researching in Scotland has been difficult.

LEATHAM - Robert Leatham died last night at his home, 46 Canton street, aged 91 years, 3 months. He leaves four daughters, Miss Elizabeth W. Leatham and Mrs. John Small of Lowell, Mrs. William Knox of Tyngsboro, Mrs. William E. Addie of Scotland; two sons, Robert of Batesburg, S.C. and Joseph L. Leatham of Malden. Thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive. He was a member of the Kirk street Congregational church. Funeral notice later.

I too am searching for a Susan Leatham. Ours was married to John Leatham in Belfast circa1830's. They are the parents of Matthew Leatham ,my great grandfather. born 1844. The story I know is that the family set out from Ireland at the time of the potato famine. They were, I'm told, farm workers.
Any connection do you think?

Do you have any info on Matthew C Leatham and his Irish roots.I know his wife was Jo Anna and they were married in Ontario,and that Matthew was originally from Belfast.
Need help with the Irish connection.

Among the papers of my g grandfather John Hollingshead, born England in 1853 and immigrated to Lambton County Ontario in the 1870's is a Certificate from the Order of St John of Jerusalem in England certifying ARTHUR L. LEATHAM as attending a course of Instruction at the Barnsley Centre of the St John Ambulance Association. This Certificate is dated Sept 1881. A quick search places Barnsley in Yorkshire. Is anyone connect to this Arthur? If so, I would be pleased to send you a copy of this document.
