Hi,
If your mother grew up in Weston, Connecticut, then we were great friends aged 9-12. I was so sorry to hear of her death and would like to share memories if you thought it appropriate.
Best, Anne

Dennis: First, thanks for replying. I have posted many, many messages to various boards on Ancestry and yours is the first reply that I have ever received. Secondly, thanks for the information and translation. I too found this name in my research but I wasn't able to collect anything more than a name and a Parish.

Thanks for the great lead ... especially one with a photo!

Susan K.

You are probably looking for Rev. Maxime LeBlanc, the following is his short bio in the Dictionary of Canadian Clergy (in French) by Rev. Jean-Baptiste-Arthur Allaire

The web page and his photo is found at (also attached here)

http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/numtxt/196581-2.pdf (pp 375-376 of the PDF)

Here's a translation of the record:

LEBLANC, Father Maxime, born at St-Jacques de l'Achigan (Montcalm County), Quebec on 13 Mar 1840, son of Pierre LeBlanc, farmer and (Marie-) Josephe Mageau, did his studies at L'Assomption and at the Grand Seminary of Montreal, where he was ordained by Bishop Bourget, the 12th of Mar 1864.
Curate (assistant pastor) at St-Philippe de Laprairie (1866-1868); served at Lanoraie (1868-1869); curate at Berthierville (1869); pastor at Ste-Agathe des Monts (1869-1876), where he finished the interior of the church in 1874; pastor of St-Felix de Valois (1876-1881); since 1881, pastor of St-Martin de Laval (on the Island of Montreal), where he built the rectory in 1882, finished the interior of the church in 1892 and founded a college and convent in 1905.

The fact that your grandfather put "French Canadian Island" in his notes probably confirms this as Laval in the northern part of the Island of Montreal.

Hope this is him and it helps.

Dennis

Looking For LeBlanc Priest from Quebec

I found some hand written notes in my late grand-father's effects a few months ago. It appears that he was attempting to scribe what he could recall of his family history prior to his death. The note reads "Uncle Max? LeBlanc, Catholic Priest, French Canadian Island".

Has anyone found such a man in his/her research and if so, who were his siblings and parents? My family had a habit of labeling elder cousins and more distant relations as Aunts and Uncles ... Susan K. Atlanta, GA

Just for your information, all boys were given the first name Joseph and all girls first name of Marie. As my mom explained it to me, when the person died since they were named after a saint they would go to heaven. It is usually the second or third that the person is known as. Sometimes they would Joseph or Marie as there known name.

PEI, Rollo Bay, Patrick Leblanc (White), Heneretta/Harriet Chaisson

Hi everyone,
Patrick Leblanc and Heneretta Chaisson of Bear River-Rollo Bay in Kings County, PEI are great-great grandparents on my mother's side. They seem to have lived their entire lives along the Bear River Line Road between Rollo Bay and Bear River South, at least from ca 1850 to ca 1900.
Patrick Leblanc later switched to the White surname. Heneretta Chaisson was also known as Harriet.
Both were born in PEI according to the 1881 and 1891 censuses but their ages don't change much between the 1881, 1890 (RC) and 1891 census's - they seem to be perpetually in their mid to late 60's but I'd guess their birth years are around 1818 - 1820.
The 1881 census gives their parent's places of birth: Patrick's father was born in Cape Breton and his mother in PEI. Harriet is the reverse: her mother was born in Cape Breton and father born in PEI.
Patrick and Harriet had five children: Menanet in 1848, Polycarp (aka Paul) in 1849, Anne in 1852, Mary Ann in 1856 and Stephen in 1858, all born in the vicinity of Bear River South on PEI.
In the 1881 census (Lot 43, page 24) only Paul and Mary Ann are still living with Patrick and Harriet.
In 1883 Mary Ann White married Andrew (Andre) Gallant who was born in Rustico about 1855 and moved to the east parish probably in the mid 1870's to acquire farmland because Rustico was all built up.
Mary Ann and Andrew are my great grandparents, their son Stephen Wilfred Gallant eventually left PEI in the early 1900's and moved to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay, Ont.) to look for opportunity and start his own family.
As for the LeBlanc's, Paul died at age 39 near Rollo Bay so probably disease or accident claimed him. Patrick died in 1898 at about age 80. As for the rest, I don't know what happened to them.
I'd like most of all to track backwards and find out who Patrick and Harriet's parents were. Any connection or suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks, Bill Chalk, Victoria, BC

Richard LeBlanc - Massachusetts

Good morning,

I'm hoping someone can help solve a puzzle I've got.

A few years ago, I was given a copy of the obituary for my great-grandmother Marie Elizabeth "Sadie" (LeBLANC) ROUSSEAU. In this write-up, it indicated she had a son Richard, that I knew nothing about.

Today, I found an entry for the 1930 census for Leominster, Worcester, Massachusetts for Peter & Sadie ROUSSEAU. In it, it lists Richard as a LeBLANC and the nephew of the head of household. Apparently, Richard is the biologic son of one of Sadie's siblings. Anyone know who?

Richard - B: abt 1922 in Massachusetts

Thanks,
Peter

My husband Edward was friends with Arthur and we went to school together at Prescott in the 50s. They were in the National Guard together. I would be interested in hearing about Arthur since we lost track of him after Ed went in the Navy.

Euphrosine LeBlanc m. Anthime Robichaud - HELP PLEASE

Hi there, I've hit the wall with this one. I have these two listed as the parents of Anthime Robichaud m. Helene Boudreau. On thier marriage record it has Euphrosine's name spelled as Fragile LeBlanc. In the 1901 census her name is spelled fresine. In the 1911 census she is Euphrosine living with her son Pierre and his wife Basilice and she is a widow. You can also find her listed as the parent of Elizabeth under Fresine LeBlanc and Antime Robichaud. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Tina

Joseph Leblanc and Marie Essiembre

I am looking for the marriage document of Joseph Leblanc and Marie Essiembre. They are the parents of Joseph Arthur Leblanc, married in Notre-Dame Cathedral 7 June 1904 to Eleonore Cote. The 1911 Census states that he is born September 1881. The marriage record also states that Joseph Leblanc (the father) had died before 1904, while Marie was alive and living in Grande-Riviere, Gaspe.
Olease advise where I can find the marriage record of the parents.
Rudy Okker, Montreal, Canada

Thank you, and thanks for the picture of Ripley and the correction on his name.
I saw that picture just recently on another site, but it was under Wim's name, so I thought it was a picture of him.

I no longer live in Louisiana, and haven't since I was 12 years old--a long time ago! I was born in Hammond, and there are still a lot of close relations around Hammond and Ponchatoula, and also in and around Norco.

As I wrote before, I have a lot on both the Guillory and Broussard families, and will be glad to send it. E-mail me at judea04@hotmail.com, and I'll send you what I have. A 2nd cousin in Norco also sent me a picture of Honore and Azema with Marie Celina, Shelby, along with their daughters, Dolly, Purney and Loyis when they were young. That same cousin also sent me copies of family pages of Marie Celina's Bible, and that had a lot of good information.

I'd really like to get all that I can on Leon's children and their families and any others that you could fill me in on. What I sent last time was just a tiny part of what I have, and with both the Guillory and Broussard records, it's way too much to try to post here.

You might be interested to know that one of my mother's brother's middle name was "Leon", and one of his daughters named her son after her father, and another used the middle name "Leon" in her son's name, so the name "Leon" continues in that line.

Thanks again.
Judy

Wim Guillory's brother was "Ripley" not "Rigley". He passed away at 15 due to kidney failure. I understand about your reply. I think most people do this in increments, but never at the same time:) I'll try to post a pic of Ripley here. Thanks for your info, i think it will keep me busy filling in some blanks.
