I don't know if this will help you or not. But check into Butler Co. PA and Allegheny County PA. There are Robert Leckey's in both places. The Robert in Butler was a minister and the one in Allegheny was a lawyer if memory serves (or in politics or both).

I say this because at least one (that i know of) of my Leckey ancestors also settled in Nebraska. North Platte. Don't know if there is any relationship but it's worth a shot. If you pursue this i'd be interested to know what you find out. I'm also interested in the Robert Leckey's because i suspect at least the one in Butler is related to my Leckeys from Butler. I just don't know in what way yet.

I will also check for McCormicks in Butler and Allegheny because i'm curious about this.

Margaret LECKEY was the daughter of Alexander LECKEY and Anne COCHRAN who later married Rev. John ROAN. Anne COCHRAN LECKEY ROAN died in Sadsbury Twp, Chester Co., PA, in 1788. Her will does not mention her daughter Margaret but does mention her grandson Richard McClure.

Margaret married David MCCLURE on 20 June 1965 in Paxtang Twp, Lancaster Co., PA. David MCCLURE was the son of RICHARD MCCLURE and JEAN SAGE of Paxtang Twp, Lancaster Co., PA.
Leckey immigrating from N Ireland to Philadelphia, PA

Have been researching family that was headed by father William Leckey born about 1818 in Northern Ireland. He immigrated and settled in the Phila., PA area about 1869. He was accompanied by his wife, Hannah,, sons Robert, William and Michael and daughter Honorah. His daughters Annie, Rebecca and Susan are all noted to have entered the US in 1867. Depending upon the year, document etc., the name is spelled Lackey, Lachey, Lecky, Leckey. In 1880 the family had nieces Nora Smith age 13 and Jane Smith age 15 who were born in Ireland living with them.
Is anyone else working on this family?

I also have a list of Leckeys who migrated to PA. They came from Aughnish in County Donegal and their names were:- James, Thomas, Andrew and Marion. My grandmother, their sister Sarah by name and their brother Joseph migrated to Australia. Their brother John stayed in Aughnish and ran the family farm with his father James. Their mother's maiden name was Mary Ann Taylor. They joined their uncles, all Taylors with the same christian names as theirs, in Philadelphia. Marion was the last to arrive in April 1895. James died on 2 January 1914 in Philadelphia. On one of Sarah's daughter's birth certificates she is listed as having been born in Londonderry, Ireland. On all other documents she is listed as having been born in Donegal.

Jacob Leckey

Julie Salmon are you still out there? In 1999 you sent out a message asking for anyone with Leckey connections in PA.

I have an ancestor Jacob Leckey who was born about 1800, living in Butler County PA in 1830 and was last heard from in 1840 still in Butler. The spelling of the name began to change soon after and Jacobs' two sons (as far as we know to date there were 2 sons, James and William) are almost always called Lackey. But Jacob went by Leckey.

So far i don't see a Robert in my tree, but i did see references to a Presbyterian Rev R. Leckey and an R.L. Leckey in the early Butler History on the web. And i wonder if this person is related to Jacob. We don't know yet what Jacob's religion was.

My best records show that Alexander, Adam, Samuel Jr., Catherine, Robert, Mary, and Jane Lackey were the children of Samuel Lackey Sr and Rebekah (UNKNOWN, but probably Mauney. Her last name was unknown to me until I read your message. Thanks!!!) My info concerning Samuel Jr. is pretty sketchy, but the run seems to go as follows:Samuel Jr>William Moses>James Russell>William Hampton>Benjamin Franklin>James Kyle Sr>James Kyle Jr (ME) My only guess, which is not what you asked for, is that Thomas was probably an older brother to William and John, and probably came to America before his siblings. I have found a Thomas who fought in the American Revolution and have a copy of his pension application, but have not been able to PROVE their connection, if any. Circumstantially, they must have been related since they came from the same place and arived in America at about the same time.

My husbands grandparents came from Longford, but what caught my eye in the last post is that his grandmother whose maiden name was Percival had a niece who married a Boyle in Mohil, Leitrim. My husband's grandfather was Alexander Leckey, his wife was Margaret Percival. He had a brother who came over earlier and settled in Brooklyn. His brother's daughter married his eldest son. Very confusing!! He had another brother who's grandson is James Leckey of Leckey Design in Belfast. So I know that the Leckey's are spread out. I just know that we are all somehow related since the Leckeys/Leckies/Lackeys etc. only go back as far as Rob Roy!!

I am compiling all I can find on any Leckey's as I am finding that the family moved so much that you never know where the connection will fall in place!

Hello!
Thankyou so very much for writing, it's RARE that I hear from a real live Leckey relative. My "quest" as you may call it, has been to track down WHERE in Donegal the group came from. Is this Isabella Alexander's sister or mother? I do have Lorne Leckey in my family files so knew right away who he was. Would love ot keep in touch.
My grandfather Cecil E. Leckey used to talk about going up to Coal Creek and Chipman to visit the relatives. He died in 1964. Cecil was the son of George W. Leckey and Sarah Hawkhurst.
I have seen the land grant that the original Leckey brothers got when they came here and it says they came from Donegal, now I have always wondered if that was the town or the County, or both.
Tried in vain hiring people over there to find things for me and what they send is all generalities. I need to pinpoint an exact place. Also, the records have a weird habit of being destroyed. Just our luck huh? Can you shed any light about the family origins in Ireland? Have you heard stories?
This has been great, thanks again for writing and hope to hear from you soon.
Warmest regards,
"Cousin" Carol
My LECKEY is a Anne or Anna Maude BOYLE (formerly LECKEY) married to
Maxwell James Boyle.
This information from mum's birth certificate.
Born 21st December, 1909 at 46 Great Patrick Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

She was reared as Maud Louise Bell born 24th Dec, 1912 and until she tried to get a pension did not know her real parents name. Would love to find out why she was given to the BELL family to rear and her date of birth changed.

Have thought of seeing the 1911 census to see if she (mum) was still living with her real parents still. We thought the Bell family may have got mum on the date in 1912 that was used as her birth date.

Actually would love any information on my Irish heritage.

Paulette

Can anyone tell me how or if Thomas Lackey/Agnes Leech might fit with William Lackey and Rebecca Mauney..they came to Maryland 1720 then on to Drunmore Township, Lancaster County, PA in 1730. Their daughters, Mary and Catherine married the Burney boys..They had sons named Alexander (who married Hannah) Adam (married MArtha McConnell) Samuel (married Elizabeth and moved to Tennessee) Robert (married Elizabeth Corral?) and Jane who married Mr. Porter or Potter. Wm had a brother John who married Hannah whose children married into the Alexander line and later the Morrison line. At the same time as Wm and John were in PA, so was a Thomas who married an Elizabeth Campbell. I'm looking specifically for the Lackey/Leckeys that moved into Tennessee. Any clues would be appreciated.

Re: Leckey Canada-1800's

The Leckeys of Chipman Parish married into my line of Crawfords and Browns. I know others have records of Letitia Barton marrying Alexander Leckey, but here is what I have on Alexander.

1861 census, we have brothers John, Alexander, William, Robert, Hugh Sr. living in a row in Chipman.

Alexander, age 50, is found living with brother John, widower, in this 1861 census. Also listed is Isabella, 13, a niece...which places her as daughter of Alexander.

In 1871 census, Isabella, 23, is listed as daughter to John who has married a Jane. Alexander, still a widower, is living with David and Emeline Jenkins in Waterborough.

The other children you mention are in the 1861 census but as children of the other brothers, not of Alexander.

I probably don't have the early records that you have regarding Letitia, but I also have the Barton line, and there is no mention of a Letitia. (Roger Barton's Kinsmen book).

According to Wiggins, four brothers (John, William, Robert, Hugh) were born in Donegal, Ireland, settled in 1825 in Coal Creek. ... Leckey family was orignally from Scotland, and some ancestors served in the ranks of Oliver Cromwell. Alexander is not mentioned by Wiggins, but he was considerably younger than his brothers.

Hope this helps.
Sara
