My Ancestors originated in Scotland, went to Ireland, not sure when, But John was born in 1772 moved back to Scotland in 1805.He brought his family to Canada in 1821 and settled in Lanark County, Ontario.

I haven' been able to find any siblings or parents records.. John's death is not in the Death registry for Ontario. He information came from a newspaper article. He and several Leckies are buried in Bunyan Cemetery.

If the book, The Lairds of Leckie, is still available I would certainly appreciate having a copy.

Hi Susan

I just found your message on the 'net. I am descended from Alexander Crilly's sister-in-law, Matilda Gordon nee Purvines (or Purveyance). In 1999 I undertook some research of Alexander's family in Bathurst for the 150th anniversary of Matilda's arrival in Australia. I also have photos of Alexander and his wife Catherine.

Are you interested in any of this?

Mark Gordon

Yes, John (Jack) Leckie returned to Victoria (visiting I think) and died there. He was married to Thyrza Sophia (nee Swinbourn) on 6-1-1900 in Mary St. Highgate WA. She was born 6-8-1887 in Brunswick VIC. and died 20-7-1942 in Cottesloe WA. Jack's father was Hugh b.1848-9 in Ballantrae to John Leckie and Mary Aitken. Hugh married Christina Maitland Sinclair HERRON c.1868 in Melbourne. It was her second marriage and she was first married to Robert DOIG.

I'm looking for info on ROBERT LINDSAY LECKIE, presumably born in Bombay around 1807, and on his wife ELIZA JANE TANNER, also born in Bombay around 1819. She was the daughter of Capt. Tanner, and the couple were married on Oct. 15 1841 in Bombay. Robert died in Brigthon in 1865 and Eliza in Hackney in 1857. They were the parents of WALTER JAMES LECKIE, of Tárrega fame.

John Leckie married Mary Aitken and they had 8 children Isabella, Jean or Jane, Elizabeth, Hugh, John, William, James and Mary. Jean or Jane married Andrew McClelland in 1867. I can find them up until the 1901 census, but can't find a death for either Jane or Andrew. Can anyone help?

Lisa, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. It's been a very hectic year for me.

My sister is a Leckie and I'm doing this for her. Her grandmothers name was Marion. My sister is 63. How old is your husband? My sisters father had re-married after he and my sister and my mother divorced. John, her father was in the Air Force during WW11. I believe he died some time ago.

Let me know if this sounds familiar.
Do you know if Kenneth served in the RCAF during WW11?

I will contact my sister in Winnipeg and try to get more information from her.

Wife of Adelbert Hugh Tagert was Mary J. Harvey. According to the 1900 U.S. Census she was born in New York and her parents were born in England.

Obituary says that Mary J. Tagert died Feb. 28, 1907, aged 55 years, in Chicago. The 1900 U.S. Census has her being born in December, 1851.

The obituary lists four surviving daughters, one being Carolyn Leckie. However, the 1900 U.S. Census lists Carrie Kay, not Carrie Leckie. Carrie's husband, A. E. Kay, and their two children, Gladys Kay and Adelbert H. T.Kay are also listed in the 1900 U.S. Census.
