Hi Angie, hmm, I am researching Lecompte on my mother's side but have just made my first breakthrough to Quebec. I need to sort it all out before I comment...but really, "HUBERT" caught my eye... that was my father's name....please tell me Lecompte and Hubert are not one and the same name...because I just traced both names back to Quebec...would explain all my strange relatives though...

Thanks,
Caryl hubert

Hi Penny Porch,

My name is Tom LeCompte. I believe we are cousins. My father, Oliver LeCompte, son of Oliver and Genevieve LeCompte, brother to Joan and Jaqueline.

If not, I apologize for the intrusion.

If so, I'd like to say hello. Your name came up when I Googled my Dad's name in relation to some family research you were doing. It seemed too coincidental to not be true. I'm working on a bit of family history myself, so I have an interest in any progress you may have made. My father never talked about his past or childhood, and in fact once told my brother that he had only one small memory of early childhood, which I think was a bit of an exageration, but nevertheless made it clear he really didn't want to talk about it.

I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that. I'd be interested in learning more about you and my extended family, which I know virtually nothing about.

Thanks,

Tom LeC
Our Garret Conover married Francis Amanda LeCompt(b.1825, OH) in about 1860. She had 2 spouses 1st a Sloan) & 15 children). We believe Edward may be "Mandy's" father due to the family Bible dates. The one other family of LeCompte in the Dayton, OH area where Edward LeCompt lived/died is a Stephen LeCompte family. I've contacted Stephen's descendants and though our Edward worked for/with Stephen, the descendants did not know the family connection. The connection seems probable but the only support is the employment situation.

In my Maryland dabbling I've found many Lecompt/Lecompte in the area of Maryland you mention. I'm not certain but believe LeCompt may be a very common name on the Maryland eastern shore. If someone knows differently I'd be delighted to know that.

The LeCompte name shows up in the Chicago area in the late 1700's early 1800's. Years ago I email'd the lady who has that family's lineage. We had no common information. Dates did not "jibe." She did not believe one was possible. That group may be an elite group, ours certainly seem to be someone's poor relatives. When Edward was in Cincinnati OH he is listed as a Riverman. A common occupation on the eastern shore of Maryland.

Good luck as you begin your search

It has been a while, hope I can reach Bob Urban. Recently found information that a Nicholas Trippe came into Maryland in 1669, by wagon, with his wife Margaret. Also Nicholas Trippe owned land next to Le Compte land. Nicholas Trippe is in the will of Anthony Le Compte, as I recall a 1671 will. Emails with the Le Compte family back about 7 years ago, stated they too wondered who Nicholas was, thinking maybe he was a business partner. Now that I have more information, namely a Nicholas Trippe in 1669, association next to Le Compte land, and a wife's name Margaret, I am interedted in finding out maybe the Margaret was the daughter of Anthony, son of Anthony Le Compte reference his will. Does anyone have information on her or another possible Margaret. She would fit into the right generation, and I don't seem to find anyother information on her.

I was told John LeCompte came from France about the time of the American Revolution. Then sometime after moved to the Southard section of Howell Township.
There was a booklet "Historical Sketch of Education in Monmouth County" by Samuel Lockwood, April 1876 in which it says John Lecompte, a Frenchmen, was one of the early teachers in Monmouth County. It mentions John using his son William's sum book. That is the only reference I have been able to find that would appear to be our John LeCompte.
Have you been able to find anything on Hannah LeCompte's Husband, David Layton?
Which of Hannah's children are you decended from?
Marie Paula Lecompte, Anarchist
I am an historian doing some research into anarchists in Europe in the late nineteenth century and the figure of Marie Paula Lecompte is of great interest to me, though I have been unable to come by much information.

She was invovled in the Patterson Labor Standard newspaper as an editor in around 1876 and 1877, attended an International Anarchist Congress in London in 1881 as the representative of the Boston anarchists, and was imprisoned in 1885 in Marseilles having attacked her landlady. In between those dates, I believe that she was writing reports for socialist/anachist newspapers in the UK - but I don't know which.

Any information or contacts would be very much appreciated.

I would appreciate any and all help. It is great to meet new (even distant) relatives. Both of my parents were only children, so I have no direct aunts/uncles or cousins.

I descend from another one of Louisa & John’s sons, William Merrick (m. Bertha Short). Their daughter (my grandmother Elizabeth Madaline Merrick) married Lee Cox and moved to Havre de Grace here in Harford County during the depression.

I am confused about the photo. Is it of our great-great grandmother Louisa LeCompte or your great-grandmother, the wife of Walter Lee Merrick, Sr. Regardless, I would love to see it. Thanks, Richard
Daniel & Elizabeth were married 25 Jan 1814 in Henry County, KY.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles & Elizabeth LeCompte and had 4 or 5 siblings. Her mother's maiden name is unclear - she could be the daughter of David Coons, and she could be the widow or relative of Reuben Waits. Her father is a great-grandson of the immigrant Antoine LeCompte of Dorchester County, MD (Robert Winsmore3, John2, Antoine1).

According to a descendant, Julie Spencer:
"Elizabeth and Daniel were probably born in Illinois. Their daughter Martha Banta married Joel Hall and the family moved to Missouri. Martha and Joel's daughter Parthenia married Abram Brown Wilson. Parthenia's daughter Jessie May married John Emerson Caton. Jessie and John were my grandparents."
I can put you in touch with Julie if you wish.

Some sources:
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ky/ky-footsteps/2000a/v...
Richard, .......Sorry if I missed your August e-mail.....I have been moving to my new home..The picture I mentioned was of Jessie Anna Merrick (wife of Walter Lee Merrick, Sr - son of Louisa & John Merrick). Your William Merrick was my great-grandfather's brother, Walter Lee Merrick. I have records of William. This photo would be your William's sister-in-law. I have estimated the photo taken around 1910, Jessie was born Feb 8, 1888 and looks to be about 20-ish years old. This photo was scanned from my original - my sister (the eldest of the family) gave it to me and told me our grandmother (Elizabeth Merrick) gave it to her personally, stating that it was Jessie's picture. Jessie would be the daughter-in-law of John & Louisa Merrick: sister-in-law to William Merrick. Would like to hear from you again - I have recently received some books & cemetery records that you may be interested in.....let me know direct. e-mail - mccarty10@verizon.net enter Merrick's in subject field.

In the Soulanges registry, the parents of Joseph Lecompte who married Sophie Lucie Brabant Feb 3 1834 in St-Polycarpe, Soulanges, Québec, are listed as Jean-Baptiste Lecompte and Josèphte Martin.

Does anyone know of the existence of the parents marriage? or was this an error in transcription? Should the father actually be Pierre Lecompte...and...Joseph married twice (first to Catherine Sedilot and then Sophie Brabant?) I would appreciate any information that may be offered!!!

As well, does anyone know of Sophie Brabant also being referred to as Sophie Brisbois, and can proof be supplied?

Thank you,
Denise

Joseph Bissonnette m. Marguerite St-Germain (Plus Lefebvre+Lecompte)

In addition to my previous posting:

In the 1851 Prescott South Plantagenet Census Joseph (age 40) and Marguerite St-Germain (age 30) are listed.

Children: according to the census:
Rosalie b. about 1837
Martin b. about 1843
The?? b. about 1847 (male)
Louisa B. about (1849) - this is who I believe is my g-g-grandmother, Elizabeth, as I have a probable birth date of Sept 18 or 25, 1848/49 for Elisabeth.

In addition, there is a marriage registry of Louise Bissonnette and Jean Lacombe (aka Lecompte) that states Joseph and Marguerite as parents of "Louise" (who I believe is Elisabeth, my g-g-grandmother), married Feb 23 1868 in South Plantagenet, Ontario.

My question is...does anyone have any information on Joseph and Marguerite?? I am aware of only one other Bissonnette/St-Germain marriage (Germain and Marguerite)...but...this couple must be a different couple, as the time frame is wrong. I think Joseph and Marguerite would have married before 1837 either in Soulanges area (?) Quebec or Ontario (probably in Plantagenet)

Jean Lacombe (aka Lecompte) is listed as being born in Ste-Philomene, (I am assuming in the Chateauguay area..unless there is a parish in Ontario called Ste-Philomene that I am not aware of??) as well as another brother, Joseph (married to Mary Ann Lefebvre in Prescott County in 1868) , and sister, Marguerite (married in Curran,Ontario to Mary Ann Lefebvre's brother, Olivier in 1857).

"Louise" Bissonnette is listed as being born in South Plantagenet, Ontario in 1848/1849

I would deeply appreciated any and all information about any of the above couples that can be provided!
Thank you,
Denise
