LINCOLNTON - R.B. Gilbert, 92, of 639 Cat Square Road, entered his Heavenly home surrounded by his loving family on Oct. 6, 2008.

Mr. Gilbert was born July 14, 1916, in Lincoln County, son of to the late Fred Ford and Mae Ledford Gilbert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ella Logan Gilbert; one son, Ford Keith Gilbert; one daughter, Lydia Christine Loftin; three brothers, George, John and Edison Gilbert; two sisters, Lorene G. Bridges and Mildred G. Goode.

Mr. Gilbert was a prominent dairy farmer in Lincoln County.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Gilbert and his wife Martha of Vale, Brett Gilbert and his wife Nancy of Charlotte, Terly Gilbert and his wife Betty of Charlotte; two daughters, Jewell G. Coffey and her husband Thomas of Gastonia, Reyta G. Brown and her husband Jim of Lincolnton; son-in-law, Lewis Loftin of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Sue W. Gilbert of Lincolnton; one sister, Ruth Baker of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Hull officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton.

Obituary Edward (Edd) Ledford, age 76 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home in Murphy, NC.

Mr. Ledford was a native of Cherokee County, NC; he was the son of the late Albert and Marion Reid Ledford. He was a farmer, logger and had worked for Dodge in Detroit, Michigan. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors and was of the Baptist faith. Edd never met a stranger.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a loving nephew, Jeffery Ledford; a brother, Jerry Ledford and a sister, Charlene Kelley.

He is survived by three brothers, Robert Ledford and his wife Linda, Harold Ledford and his wife Brenda and Hoyt Ledford and his wife Billie Jean all of Murphy, NC and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Calvin Murphy and Rev. Jerry Morrow will officiate. Music will be provided by David Lovingood and Vic Sanders. Burial will be in the Ledford Cemetery in Murphy, NC. Pallbearers will be nephews, Darren Ledford, Paul Ledford, Michael Paul Ledford, Johnny Deese, Dewayne Plemmons and Mitchell Golden.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.

Bakersville, N.C. - Bill Ledford, 76, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008, at his residence in Bakersville, N.C. He was a native of Mitchell County, N.C. and was the son of the late Walter and Myrtle McKinney Ledford. He was a former employee of Henredon Furniture.

Survivors include sisters Altha Lee Reel, of Marion, N.C., Beulah Zirk, of Baltimore; twin sister, Betty Miller, of Fayetteville, N.C.; brothers, Laney Ledford, of Statesville, N.C., Virgil Ledford, of Bakersville, N.C., Dean Ledford, of Baltimore; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Ledford.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville, N.C.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. Larry Greene will be officiating the service. Interment will follow the service at the Wilson Cemetery.

Candler – Harold Lloyd Ledford, 71, of 37 Holly Ridge Road, died Friday, September 19, 2008 at his residence after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the son of the late Henry Edward and Nelly Mary Brown Ledford, and the husband of the late Rose Mathis Ledford.

Surviving are his daughters, Kathy Swanger, of Mars Hill, Betty Brackett, of Candler, Mary Grant, of Shelby and Brenda Nolan, of Old Fort; sons, Donald Ledford, of Arden, Jerry Ledford, of Candler, and Danny Ledford, of Hendersonville; sister, Jenavie, of Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at AndersRice Funeral Home, with Pastor Rolf Woodard officiating.

STANLEY -- Tywana Richardson Ledford, 72, of 111 McLurd Manor, died Sept. 12, 2008 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Lenoir City, Tenn; wife of the late Morgan Paul Pendleton and was preceded in death by a son Morgan Paul Pendleton Jr.
Survivors include three daughters; Novella Whisnant and husband Roger of Gastonia, Shelby Farnsworth and husband Ralph of Gastonia, Teresa Michael and husband Boyd Jones Jr. of Stanley, a sister Louise Richardson of Tennessee., five grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
Funeral service conducted by the Reverend Allen Foreman will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. She was a native of Gaston County, and a daughter of Roger Burke Abernathy and Donna Paulk Abernathy.

Julie received her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University and Bachelor of Arts from Belmont Abbey College. She was a business teacher at East Gaston High School where she was loved by her students and fellow teachers. She was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and is dearly missed.
SURVIVORS: In addition to her parents, her newborn son, Ayden Burke Abernathy Rick, her brother, Paul Burke Abernathy of Belmont; her sister and brother-in-law, Leigh and Michael Herman of Bessemer City; nephews, Matthew Herman and Austin Graves; niece, Emily Herman; aunts and uncles, Gail and Herman Eaker of Flat Rock; L. I am desperately trying to find the parents of Curtis Ledford who is in the Yancey County, NC census for 1850. He is 24 years old in 1850. His wife's name is Catherine. I was told she may have been a Grindstaff. Is he the son of Fredrick Ledford and Prudence Curtis? Does anyone know who his wife, Catherine's parents are?

Warne – Beulah Lee Barnes Ledford, 94, of Warne, died Saturday, September 6, 2008, at the Murphy Medical Center in Murphy. She was a native of Union County, Ga. and a lifelong resident of Clay County, N.C.
She was the daughter of the late T. M. and Annie Shook Barnes and was a member of the Pine Log Baptist Church. She had worked as a housekeeper at Providence Hospital and was a master crocheter. Beulah also enjoyed quilting and working in her flower garden. She loved her family and all children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ledford; three sons, Carl, Garl and Billy Ledford; one sister, Emma O'Kelly and six halfbrothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Earl L. and Carolyn Ledford of Marble, N.C. and Allen M. and Ellen Ledford of Hemit, Calif.; one daughter and her husband, Ruth Ann and Jerry Hunsucker of Warne; one sister and her husband Ruth and Carl Shook Sr. of Candler, N.C.; her caregiver, Mary Dye of Brasstown, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and in-laws survive also.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine Log Baptist Church in Brasstown, N.C., with the Revs. Jimmy Rogers, Johnny Foster and Tom Leatherwood will officiate. Interment will be in the Pine Log Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Ledford, Robby Palmer, David Owens, David Hyatt, David Allen Hyatt, and Chris Coker. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Graper, Virgil Dye, Max Reece and Carl Shook Jr.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the TownsonRose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service hour.

Mr. Ledford was born on Nov. 25, 1962 in Burke County to Bradley D. Ledford and Lea Woody Ledford. Randy was previously employed as a contractor. He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Douglas Ledford. KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. John Franklin "Frank" Ledford, 88, of 137 Old Home Place Road, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at Cleveland Pines in Shelby.
He was born in Cleveland County, son of the late Kemp and Mattie Wright Ledford and widower of the late Grace Howell Ledford. Mr. Ledford retired from Burlington Industries in Kings Mountain and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the destroyer, USS Phelps. He was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents and wife, two sisters, Lizzie Griffie and Fannie Ware preceded him in death.
He is survived by sons, Jerry F. Ledford and wife, Sheila, of King Mountain, Paul K. Ledford of Anderson, S.C. and Don W. Ledford of Thomasville, Ala; sister, Sue Ingle of Lincolnton; and grandchildren, Kimberly Ledford, Mike Ledford and Emily Ledford, all of Kings Mountain, Jennifer Ledford and husband, John, of Hot Springs, Ark. and John Ledford and wife, Barbara, of Lecompton, Kan.; and six great-grandchildren.

Burnsville – On Monday morning, August 18, 2008, Jim Ledford, of 125 Pine Cone Lane, passed from this world into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ. Jim was 79 years old. He was born in Burnsville and he passed away in Burnsville at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care Center. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mildred Ray Ledford; his loving wife and companion of 35 years, Edith Ledford; brothers, Bill and Tommy Ledford; and two stepchildren, Ray and Ernest Plemmons.
Jim is survived by one brother, Bob Ledford of Arden; four sisters, Irene Gentry of Durham, Nell Vea of Charlotte, Ossie Mae English of Mars Hill and Grace Sandall of New Blenheim, New Zealand. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Mary Ellen Wood and husband, Luke, of Arden, Peggy Harvey of Weaverville, Rex Plemmons and wife, Carolyn, of Weaverville, Ron Plemmons of Spartanburg and Hal Plemmons of Spruce Pine.

DALLAS - Jerry W. Ledford, 71, passed away Aug. 13, 2008, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House.

He was born July 29, 1937, in Bladen County, son of the late Ferd and Susan Nicholson Ledford.

Mr. Ledford was a member of Family Christian Center. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, Tech. Sergeant, having served 13 years of service. He was an eleven year survivor of a heart transplant from NC Baptist Hospital.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Gastonia, officiated by the Revs. Daniel Barrick, Dickie Spargo and Larry McClure.

Interment is private

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ledford; daughters, Susan Ledford, Linda Dail and husband Michael; brother, Richard Ledford and wife, Madeleine of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister-in-law, Theresa Ledford of Riegelwood; uncles and aunts, Bill and Rachel Ledford of Dallas, Garland and Virginia Ledford of High Point, Kate and Jim Frazier of Mount Holly; grandchildren, Jason and Matthew Dail.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ledford and a brother, John G. Ledford.

I am Tim Ledford from the Copper Basin area in SE Tennessee. My father Bill grew up in Wolf Creek, NC around Murphy. His father's name was George, who died in Columbus, Georgia.

Anyway, this is old news to most of you I'm sure, but there was a book written about the Ledford family. The name of the book is "Generations". It was written by John Edgerton and was published I believe by the University of Kentucky press.

Spruce Pine - Ruth Ledford, 87, of Spruce Pine, passed away at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital Thursday, July 31, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Rommie and Bessie Silvers Buchanan.

Ruth was a loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved her church, and had a great love of music and was a gifted piano player.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac Clayton Ledford; and son, Leonard Ledford.

Survivors include her sons, Charles Ledford, from Beaufort, S.C., Robert and Barry Ledford, from Spruce Pine; daughters, Betty Duncan and Trisha Boone, of Spruce Pine, Ann Harwell and husband, Gene, of Hickory; brother, Frank Buchanan, of Maggie Valley; sister, Mae Smith, of Marion; seven grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and special friends.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Big Crabtree Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Honeycutt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Webb Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Big Crabtree Cemetery.

A native of Union County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Earl Eldon and Mary Elizabeth Kidd Armstrong.

BOILINGS SPRINGS - Mr. Clifford Arthur Ledford, 66, of 131 Green Ave., died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Cleveland County, son to the late Melvin and Dorcas Horn Ledford. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and owned Ledford's Heating and Air Conditioning Company. He was an avid fisherman and liked working on computers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Ledford, and his mother-in-law, Hannah Deaton.

My Great grandfather was Paul Ledford from Grandview TN, his father was Charles Luther Ledford and mother was Anna Forest Rose. Some knew him by Rev. Charles Luther. They died before my grandmother was born but she did know her dad's sister Mary G. Ledford and his brother. I understand that he was married before and had children with Cora Jones. Any photographs that my grandmother was lost when their house caught fire when she was a little girl. I am working on our family tree and would love to hear of any stories, see pictures that you may have. Especially, looking for pics of Jesse Ledford, Elizabeth McCurry and Madison Monroe and Mary Nichols. Born May 1, 1942 in Cleveland County he was a son to the late D. Zemmie Ledford and Ruby Mae Swink. He was owner along with his wife, Sandy of J & S Accounting and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church where he was assistant church treasurer. He was also treasurer of Shelby Amateur Radio Club and former HAMFEST Chairman.

Mr. Ledford is survived by his wife Sandra “Sandy” Turner Ledford; a son, David Ledford and special friend Betty Scism of Waco; a daughter, Angie Ledford and fiancé Greg Andleton of Roanoke Rapids; three brothers, Jack and Margaret Ledford of Shelby; Jerry and Marie Ledford of Marion; and Don and Sara Ledford of Lawndale; a sister, Annie “Ann” Camp of Shelby; and six grandchildren, Brittany Nalley, Chris Ledford, Stephanie Lowe, Taylor Ledford, Houston Ledford and Ethan Mosteller.

A native and lifetime resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Mollie Fish Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Moody; two sisters, Cora Davis and Pearl Caldwell; three brothers, Jack and Clay Ledford and Orville Fish. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed crocheting, gospel music, reading her bible, holding and attending prayer meetings.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Moody; two daughters, Priscilla Ann Parks and her husband, Junior, of Waynesville and Tamara Brown and her fiancée, Jim Briggs, of Maggie Valley; one brother, Lester Ledford and his wife of Waynesville; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Brown.

LEDFORDS on the ship Walpoole

I've read the book Generations and I've seen the mention of the ship Walpoole. I've researched the areas this ship serviced during its travels. I've also read about the Indian attack we know killed Capt James Patton and supposedly killed Henry Ledford. Here are some questions I hope someone can answer:

1) Where is the actual proof Henry Ledford died in this attack? There is a momument in Virginia listing the names of the people killed in this Indian attack (known locally as The Drapers Meadow Massacre) and Henry Ledford is not listed among them.

2) Has anyone been able to prove the Ledfords came over on this ship? Is there an actual registry (or indentured servant paperwork) showing the names of the three brothers?

3) Why do some people list Germany as the initial homeland for the Ledford family instead of England/Ireland/Scotland? I've never seen any mention of Germany as the initial homeland and see no reason to even bring it up in discussion.

Asheville – Helen Cutie Callahan Ledford, 80, formerly of 27 Loving Way, Clyde, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Emerald Ridge Rehab and Care Center.
A native of Madison County, Mrs. Ledford had resided in Buncombe County for over 70 years. She was a retired in-home healthcare aide, and a member of Woodfin Church of God.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas Murrey and Pansy Marriah Ponder Callahan, and the widow of James Alvin Ledford, who passed away March 22, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her son, Harold Ledford; daughters, Linda Roberts and Carolyn White; granddaughter, Jeannie Ledford; sister, Wanda Anderson; and brothers, Cline and Genneth Callahan.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Surrett of Waynesville; brother, Glendle Callahan of Alma, Mich.; sisters, Kathleen McMahan of Mars Hill, Elaine Rickard of Greenville, S.C. and Eunice Rickard of Winder, Ga.; seven grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ledford was born in Mitchell County on October 5, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Marvin and Inez Phillips Greene. Mrs. Ledford was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children: Debra E. Ledford, Peggy J. Ledford and Troy M. Ledford. Mrs. Hensley was born July 25, 1904, in Yancey County, and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and loved flower gardening. Mrs. Hensley was a member of North Black Mountain Baptist Church.

She was the daughter of the late Waits and Myra Hensley Ledford, and widow of Ernest W. Hensley, who died in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her son, Morris V. Hensley; five brothers and one sister.

Surviving are her sons, Boyd Ray Burleson and wife, Theresa, of Asheville, and Ralph Raymond Burleson and wife, Elaine, of McMinnville, Tenn.; daughter-inlaw, Winda Lea Hensley, of Barnardsville; sister, Mae O' Donald, of Barnardsville; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

I am looking for any information about IDA LUCINDA VICTORIA LEDFORD b. c.1860 - shown to be in Shelby, Cleveland Co. NC in the 1880 census - working as a domestic servant to the Wells family. She died in Rocky Mount, Nash, NC in 1935.
She was also known to have worked for the Atlantic Coastline RR in Rocky Mount c. 1905 - and did live in Dinwiddie VA in the late 19th c.
She had two children: Ella Halligan Ledford, 1887-1963 and Robert Lee Ledford 1884? - There is no record of a father for either of these two. IN the 1880 census she is noted as 'single' with the last name of Ledford. Other family members thought that the name Knipe or Knight was somehow connected. Could she be the daughter of Eli Craton Ledford?

Their son, Andrew Homer Martin (or Homer Andrew Martin) was born 29 Dec 1868 in Clay Co., NC and married Ellenor "Ella" May Hooper in Graham Co., NC in 1881.

As yet, I do not know the names of any of Homer's siblings, although I knew three of his cousins: Verlin, Gar, and Harly Martin from Clay Co., NC.

Caroline had a brother named Bud Ledford who was a preacher. She and Aden are buried in Hayesville. I don't know the names of Aden's parents either or where he came from. Surely would appreciate any information.

Black Mountain - James Anthony Tony Ledford, 49, of Black Mountain, formerly of Hayesville, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at Mission Hospitals, Memorial Campus, in Asheville.

Tony was a native of Cherokee County, and lived most of his life in Hayesville, until moving to Black Mountain in 1998. Tony was a son of the late Willard and Mattie Lee Kitchens Ledford. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron Alonzo Ledford and infant Eugene Ledford. Tony was a very sweet and loving person. He enjoyed listening to gospel music.

Tony is survived by three brothers, Lowell Ledford and wife, Helen, of Hayesville, Monroe Ledford and wife, Evelyn, of Hiawassee, Ga., and Cranval Ledford and wife, Janice, of Marion; and four sisters, Evelyn Crews and husband, Sherwin, of Carrollton, Ga., Mary Jo Martin and husband, Horace, of Hayesville, Gwen Penland, of Blairsville, and Dwayne Evans and husband, Max, of Hayesville. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville. The Revs. Chris Rumfelt and Harold Ledford will officiate.

Interment will be in Union Hill Cemetery. Nephews Stewart Crews, Ronnie Ledford, Jeff Ledford, Derrick Ledford, Barron Martin and Mark Carter will serve as pallbearers. Steven Evans, Shawn Ledford and Dusty Ledford will be honorary pallbearers.

Greenville, S.C. - Derek Samuel Ledford, 18, of 51 South Wood Drive, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Born in Greenville, he is the son of Kenneth Rodgers Ledford Jr. and Rebecca Jewell Ledford. Erek was a member of Southside Fellowship. He loved God, his family, friends and his dog, Chipper. Eager to make new friends, Derek never met a stranger and always gave everyone a chance. He enjoyed everyday to the fullest spending time with friends, riding four-wheelers and motorcycles as well as with his family working in the garden and going to the beach. He was an outdoorsman and an excellent skeet shooter and loved deer hunting. He was a member of the KMA deer club. Derek loved to play drums and enjoyed listening to music. For Derek, giving to others especially of himself was a very important guide through out his short life.

Surviving are his parents, Kenneth R. Asheville - Shelby Jean Ledford Roberts, 70, of Emma Road, died, Sunday, September 2, 2007.

Mrs. Roberts was born June 13, 1937 in Buncombe County and was formerly of Marshall. She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Hermon Roberts, parents, Jesse and Mayfrey Maynor Ledford, brother-inlaw, Gene Cole, brother, Donald Ledford and nephew, Ronnie Mathis.

Surviving are her sister, Geneva Cole and sister-inlaw, Edna Ledford both of Asheville, niece, Donna Edwards and husband, Jeff of Weaverville and nephews, Roger Mathis and wife, Cheryl of Asheville and Harold Ledford and wife, Kim of Leicester.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Madison Funeral Home with Ernie Phillips officiating.

Burial will be in the Roberts Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

SHELBY — Madeline Earwood Ledford, 77, of 3842-A Redman Road died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in Greensboro.
The daughter of the late John N. and Mary Powell Earwood, she was the owner of Ledford’s Grocery Store on North Fallston Road with her late husband, Thurman Ledford, for over 35 years and she was a nurse for 30 years at Cleveland and Gaston Memorial hospitals.
Mrs. Ledford was a member of South Marietta Street Baptist Church in Gastonia.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Rosia Martin, Ellen Jones, Martha Pace, Hattie Jones, Lib Eaker, Dorice Ledbetter; and brothers, Joe Earwood and Bill Earwood.
Mrs. Ledford is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ledford Burns of Shelby; son-in-law Johnny Burns Sr. of Charlotte; grandchildren Dana Burns, Andy Burns, Kathy A. Burns, Kelly Burns and Johnny Burns Jr., all of Shelby; John Hawkins III and wife, Jennifer, Angela Shaw and husband, Chucky, Johnny Burns and wife, Kim, all of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Parton, Jennifer, Kimberly, Carlie and Debra Burns of Charlotte, Mike and Bryanna Weaver of Salisbury and Gatha Shaw and Jimmy Donahue of Shelby.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the Mausoleum B-Gaston Memorial Park

Pisgah Forest – Kandy Kansada Woodring Ledford, 39, of Pisgah Forest, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 15, 2007, in the arms of her longtime life partner, David McCall, of Pisgah Forest.

Survivors include her parents, Joe and Betty Woodring, of Rosman; daughter, Rebecca Rupert, of Rosman; two sons, Joseph and John Ledford, of Weaverville; grandson, Denver; three sisters, Shirley Young, of Hendersonville, Brenda Winebarger, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sandy Houck, of Brevard; brother, Joe Woodring, of Gulfport, Miss.

She was preceded in death by another sister, Martha Jean Woodring.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, with the Revs. Bobby Howard and Robert Owen officiating.

Burial will follow in Little River Cemetery in Penrose.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. James Wilford Ledford, age 78, of Lincoln Nursing Center and formerly of 2294 Seagletown Road in Vale, died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Grigg officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Vale. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. tonight at Warlick Funeral Home. At all other times the family will be at the home of Gene and Robin Ledford, 1483 J. Rhyne Reep Road, Vale.

Mr. Ledford was born on September 25, 1928 in Lincoln County to the late Russell Carr “Coot” and Sarah Short Ledford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Grigg Ledford. Mr. Ledford was the owner/operator of Ledford Logging before retiring.

Survivors include three sons: Charles Russell Ledford of Vale, James Franklin Ledford of Vale, and Gene Edward Ledford of Vale; one brother, Clyde Franklin Ledford of Lincolnton; two grandaughters, Krista Ann Pruitt of Cherryville, Sarah Deanna Ledford of Vale; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Andrew Ledford, Madison Ann Pruitt, Hazel Ruth Lawing.

Warlick Funeral Home in Lincolnton is serving the Ledford family.

Swannanoa – Bobby Evan Ledford, 78, of 105 Wilson Ave. Extension, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 11, 2007.

Mr. Ledford was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Buncombe County, where he had lived all of his life. He retired from Kearfott and ran a small engine repair shop.

Bob was the son of the late Robert and Ella Banks Ledford. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Bud and Billy Ledford; and sisters, Donnie and Pauline Robinson and Mattie Jones.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ruth Yates Ledford; daughter, Joyce Ann Ledford, of Swannanoa; son, David Ledford, and wife, Dana, of Swannanoa; sisters, Abbie Luther and Avvie Silver, both of Swannanoa; brother, Jim Ledford, of Black Mountain; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Swannanoa Church of God, with the Revs. Stoy Lankford and Robert Ballard officiating.

Burial will be in Sky View Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Harwood Home for Funerals, 208 W. State St., Black Mountain.

At other times the family will be at the residence.
