Hi, I created this topic but just found out it was still here today and do not have the same e-mail of 2001. What I have found out since then is that Oliveira Ledo were probably jews who became Christians and moved to America back in the sixteenth century. There is a website where you can find interesting information about the Oliveira Ledo family origin.

http://www.dispatchesfromthevanishingworld.com/dispatch34/pr...

Thank you for answering. From the 1930 census I know Daniel Ledo had a sister Delores born about 1915. Families back then were large and I'm sure he had more brothers and sisters than that. Do you have their names, birth and death dates?

Thank you.

Do you know where they came from in Canada? Mary Rose Ledo married James Widdicombe and they had 6 children. Mary Rose was born 4/29/1870 and dies 7/29/1926. She married James at the Widdicombe Ranch on Mud Creek in Montana. James was born in 1859 and dies 3/14/1917. They are buried at Big Timber, MT. Our information indicates the following names and birthdates:

Their children were Louise Rose -- 9/27/1889 -- 2/15/1943
Richard 1892 - 1959
Robert 10/12/1894 -- 1946
Sam 8/05/1896 - 1940
Joe 8/01/1899 - 1977
William -- 2/17/1906

The Ledo children were Mary Rose 1870 - 1926
Frosia, Amelia, John, Napoleon, Moses, Charlie, Sam Joe Ida, Helen and Harriette.

You may have been the one who put this information together for the Widdicombes. I got the information from my aunt who was a daughter of Richard Widdicombe, child of James Widdicombe and Mary Rose Ledo.

Charles

This is an old posting and I'm hoping you still monitor this message board. I recently started researching this family and would be interested in sharing information with you. I found the family in the 1930 census in St Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota; Roll: 1116; Page: 28A; Enumeration District: 182:
Anthony Ledo age 41 born MN, parents born in Poland, laborer as a brewer
Mary Ledo age 40, wife, born MN
Delores Ledo age 15 daughter born MN
Daniel Ledo age 11 son born MN

SSDI record for Daniel B Ledo: last resided at St Paul, Ramsey Cty, MN, born Sep 1, 1918 died Sep 1, 2003

an old phone book record for Daniel B Ledo born Sep 1918 and lived at 2565 Ivy Ave E, St Paul, MN.

Have you learned anything more about Daniel's parents, other than their names were Anthony and Mary?

I'd also be interested in learning more about Daniel and Rose Mary's children.

The grandfather of my mother, Giovanni Benassi, was born in Lucca, Tuscany, Italy. He went to the States, lived there with a brother, but due healthy problems with the winter, he moved to Brazil.Back to Italy again, brought 2 others brothers from Lucca, to this country, and Lucia Filppini, his childhood friend, "milk sister", and after, his loved wife. He was born in 1867 (02/21).Today Benassi in Brazil became a trade of very specials and select fruits from the farm of ours
relatives in a citty called Jundiaí, in the state of San Paolo.
Sheri,
SO you have any information about a Ida Ledo (Born 1888), Helen Ledo (b: 1893) or Moses Ledo who llived in Montana about the late 1880-1900. We are not sure, but we think they lived on one of the reservations in Montana and travelled to Alberta (which was the North West Territories then). The Blackfeet tribes are preminant in Southern Alberta and I am very weak in my first nations history. Any information would be appreciated.

Michelle

Hi there, My name is Jennifer Oliviera Ledo. I live in Canada but my parents came here when they were young from the Azores. My dad Fernando Ledo is from the Azorean Island of Sao Miguel. When my dad's brothers came to Canada shortly after my dad did, immigration made my uncles cut their names shorter because their names were too long. I guess back then, parents named their kids so many names with 2-3 middle names. They each had 5 different names so immigration cut their last names from their identification and they're last names are now Tavares as that was one of their middle names. Please respond if anyone knows anything about this or may think we may be related.

Hi Sherri,
Interesting that you have brought this up as I have heard something very similar...but within the Blackfoot nation in Montana. Let me know what you find out!
As far as researching some information, I did get ahold of this guy in Portugal by the name of Jaoa Francesco-Ledo who is into geneology in a big way...tells me that the surname origionated in the Azores Islands...just outside of Portugal and that the name was used by old time poets and musicians for the word "happy". Azores Islands were colonized by Henry the Navigator and those that origionate from there are most often fair skinned and have either blue or green eyes. Interesting person to communicate with. Hope this helps!!
From what this gentleman shared with me was that the last name Ledo absomlutely begun on the Asorez Islands. He was able to trace it back pretty far........Stated that the word LEDO is still used by poets and musicians as being an old portugese word for HAPPY which has been replaced in modern times to be the word ALEGRE...... Thought that was interesting. Also he shared with me that the people of the Asorez island all have the dark hair, fair skin and either green or blue eyes.Good luck on your search!
