Dear Maurice,

Thank you so much for this information, it will help me greatly I am sure. We live in northern Indiana and there is much research that we need to work on by heading up to Muskegon; hopefully this fall.
It sounds as if you already have done extensive research, but if I run across anything interesting I will be happy to let you know. Or if there is anything I can track down for you when I go, I would be happy to do so.
Sincerely, Ellen

Hello Ellen,

Afraid I can't help you with the Pagé side. I have 13 Pagé in my data bank but none with a first name close to what you need. My main interest is LEDOUX and their wives and childrens. If the LEDOUX is female I only save her husband's name and parents. Sorry

Maurice

Joseph Ledoux/Ledaux

Ok guys, I posted a new thread, because I became very confused! Thanks for everyone's help with the info on Nicholas and Antoine Ledoux; it helped a bunch! I am really lost, however, on the Joseph Ledoux's. I have in my geneology the following list, starting with the son of Antoine Ledoux.

Joseph Ledoux, married Marie Anne Langevin on 3 Oct 1791 in Vercheres, PQ, Canada.

Their son, Joseph Ledoux, married Marie Forand on 11 Aug 1820 in St Jean-Baptist de Rouville, Quebec, Canada. The had 5 Children, their oldest son was, once again, Joseph Ledaux.

This Joseph Ledoux married Thariste/Rosalie Delage on 13 Oct 1840 in St. Damase, PQ, Canada. THey had 6 children. The oldest was Marie Vitaline Ledaux, my great grandmother.

I don't have any specifics at all on any of these families, except what I have listed here. I would love any additional information, including collateral lines, if they are out there. I know they are, just not sure where! Thanks in advance!

Hello Maurice,
Saw this post, I am researching Theophile(us) Page along with LeDoux - this is part of my mother's side. Margaret/Marguerite is my Gr-Gr-Great Grandmother.
Are you still doing research? Other names in that particular side of the tree are Blair (who Statira Page married).
Mom is 85 so I am trying to get as much info together for her and us as I can. Mom remembers her Grandmother Statira - she said that she spoke very little English and thought she still may have been Catholic even though it seems as if Theophile had left the family.
Thank you, Ellen

Re: Angeline LeDoux

Well, working our way backwards, Louis L. Moore (not Louis C.) was listed as a veterinary surgeon at Jamestown, ND, in the 1900 census. He was listed as born in Michigan in Febuary 1868. Both his parents were born in English Canada. Wife was Emily L., b. Aug. 1870, in Minnesota. Her father b. PA., he mother in VA. The couple had been married 7 years, and had three children: Edna, July 1893; Charles P., March 1897, and Yale F., July 1899 -- all b. in ND.

In the 1880 census (the 1890 was destroyed long ago), we see a Lewis L. Moore, aged 13, in Marlette Twp., Sanilac County, MI. Father is Robert, aged 47, a farmer, born in Canada, as were his parents. His wife: Christiana, aged 19, b. Canada, as were her parents. Children: Lewis L., 13, laborer, b. MI; Alexander, 2. Also in the household: John Moore, 19, nephew, b. Canada, and Henrietta Dowdell, 12, sister-in-law, at school, also b. Canada. Given the stark difference in ages of Robert and Christiana, we would be led to believe that she was a second wife. In this case, "Dowdell" would be her maiden name - given that Henrietta was too young to have a married name.

In the 1870 Census for Moore [yes, same name] in Sanilac County, MI, we see Robert Moore, 37, a farmer, b. Canada; his wife Angeline, aged 24; and their son Lewis, aged 3. I say "wife" and "son" because of the way they are listed and their relative ages. In fact, family relationships would not be listed until the 1880 census.

The 1890 Special Census of Civil War Veterans shows that Robert Moore of Marlette Twp., Sanilac County, MI, was in Company B of the 5th Michigan Infantry. He said he had been wounded in the neck and leg by a shell. As for your family tradition, it would appear that Robert came to the US from Canada, rather than from Ireland.

National Archives Pension Index lists a pension for a Robert Moore, Company B of the 5th Michigan Infantry, (apparently the same man) application #507,745, certificate #767,296. Dependent pension awarded to what looks like an under-age child, application #856,811 certificate #669,218. Sarah Hager was the guardian.

Having listed all this, the bad news is that I have no idea who your Angeline was. She doesn't correspond to anyone in my Ledoux database, which has in excess of 10,000 individuals in it, all born with the name Ledoux, and all descended from the man who introduced the name into North America.

Father Al Ledoux

I believe she was from Montreal---my great grand father Robert Moore or L'Moore was born in Ireland I think around 1845. He rand to the US to fight in the civil war but was sent back for being too young--- he went back and joined under the name Moore--probably lying about his age. I believe she was french catholic. They married--my grand father Louis Charles, and his twin sister were born in 1868 Maybe in the US maybe in Canada--he went to the university of Toronto I think and became a veteranarian. He settled in Jamestown ND. He changed teh spelling to LaMoore then my dad went to L'Amour.
Does this help?

I originally posted this in December of 2000. My sister was married to his son, also named Jimmy, but had the last name Acree. The mother of the younger Jimmy is somewhere is Florida.
Since then, Jimmy was also killed in a car accident near Murfreesboro,Tennessee on 9/11/05. He is buried in North Middletown, Ky. where he trained horses for several years. He has 2 sons by a previous marriage who live in central Kentucky.
Before the accident, Jimmy and my sister, who were living in Christiana, Tennessee, were interested in finding out information about his dad,Jimmy LeDoux,so I posted the message on this website.
I really don't know what to add here other than to say thank you for replying and I wish the original posting had been found earlier.

In accordance with Quebec Vital and Church Records(Drouin 1621 -1967) Benjamin Ledoux and Praxede Lamarche married 31 may 1847 in St-Michel parish,Sherbrooke,Quebec. There is a good copy of their marriage act at Ancestry.ca.
Benjamin parents: Joseph Ledoux b. and bapt. 7 nov 1775 and Marie Charles Bousquet b. and bapt. 29 jul 1780 both in St-Denis-sur-Richelieu,County St-Hyacinthe,Quebec.

Sorry I have not found the other records yet. I noticed however that in Ancestry.ca there is a family tree called Jessie's family tree that has info about the Ledoux/Lamarche
I would have to e-mail her to see if I could access the tree.

Maurice

P.S.
Hello go1c,
Yes, I knew that you were interested. I am very excited because I have a death date, finally. I really think that I have found the father of Paul Ledoux, too. I did some more research and found records of this Paul Ledoux(the father of Paul Ledoux) in Brunswick, Maine, in 1870 census. But the family had changed its name to Lado after leaving Canada. There is a senior Paul Lado, born about 1827 and a son Paul Lado, born about 1850. I checked out Canadian church records and the parents(Paul and Claire Lado) match up to Paul Ledoux and Clarice Messier, married in St. Demase,Hyacinthe cnty, Quebec in 1848. The children(about 7) also have birth records in St Demase(spelling?). Paul Ledoux(the son) has a birth record for 1850. The senior Paul Ledoux's parents may have come from the area of St Denis sur de Richeliu but I can't make any clear distinctions. I don't know if St Denis is close to St.Demase or not.
Another thing that I found out was that my great great grandmother's father, Olivier LHeureux, also died in the same year and place as Paul Ledoux, his son-in-law. Roxton Pond, 1883. Sure hope this is going to stay...

Married Ann Catherine Bousquet born 5-13-1695 died 11-23-1722. He married Genevieve Auge St Julien on 10-15-1724. Genevieve was born on 8-7-1704 and died on 2-13-1768. Their son Antoine was born 7-10-1736 and died 2-9-1793 he married Therese Senecal Laframboise on 2-11-1765. Therese died on 12-16-1769.I did not go any further as this is not my direct line.
Both Joseph and Benjamin married Lamarche.s who were sisters. You are correct it is Praxede and not Proxeed. It's just a habit I have, everytime I write her name it seems I spelled it Proxeed. Her sister was Edesse. Even though they are listed as Lamarche, it is almost certain they were not Lamarche decendents. Benjamin who was born 8-23-1821 and Joseph on 11-22-1827 were first cousins.Joseph died in Nashua, N.H.on 5-27-1896 and Edesse in South Hadley, Mass. on 7-12-1904. I Would like to find the dates of death of both Benjamin and Praxede. I know they died in Nashua, Benjamin about 1892 and Praxede around 1903. Joseph the son of Benjamin also died in Nasuua on 1-3-1908.They also had two other sons, George and Frank who lived in Nashua, but I know nothing about their lives. The other children are all well documented. If you have any additional information it would be appreciated. Also if you have any pertainant information on Benjamin,s parents Joseph and Marie Bousquet who died in Vermont around 1845. Thanks George Ladeau

Re: Joseph and Benjamin Ledoux

Maurice.
If anyone out there is interested, Ledoux was always spelled that way up until they migrated to Vermont. Joseph arrived i 1829 with his family from St Hyacinthe. The family remained in vermont until the death of their parents when they all returned to Canada. By that time all their children were married except my great great granfather.Their name at that time was spelled ledeaux.
Shortly after his marriage in 1847 he returned to vermont, settleing in North Troy. In 1860 the family was listed as Sweet, not Ledoux. Once again, for those interested why do you think the census records list them as Benjamin Sweet?
By 1867 they were living in Manchester and listed as Benjamin La Dao. A few years later It Became Ladeau. By 1880 it was spelled Ladoo or Lado. And then by 1900 some memerbers of the family began spelling it Ledoux, but my grandfather later started spelling it Ladeau, which is the way it has been spelled ever since. Amen
Also there is no mention anywhere of Pierre Lamarche being a decendent of the Briscault's. Try as you may you will not find a birth record of Pierre Lamarche. because he was more then likely not a Lamarche decendent, but that's another story. Thats it for now
George Ladeau
