I know your original question was posted about 10 years ago, but I just ran across it in a search. Are you still looking for info on Marguerite Leduc? I have a lot of info on Leduc ancestors. Marguerite was my g-g-g grandmother and her son Jean Baptiste Rapin was my g-g grandfather. My paternal grandmother was Ruth Rapin who married Walter Kennedy, and who would have been your Jean Baptiste Rapin's granddaughter. Please let me know if you are still interested. Thanks.

I'm researching the DeDu (LeDue/LeDuc) families who lived in Nevada County from the 1860s on. Particularly the ones who lived at North Bloomfield (Malakoff Diggins), which include Prosper, Thomas, Emma, William, Alonzo Louis, Jessie, Elizabeth, and Charles. We're trying to pull together biographies of the people who lived here during the mining periods.

Many thanks
Jenny
Board Member, Malakoff Diggins State Park Association

JB Leduc - Witness at JB St. Francois Marriage

Hello Everyone...

I have hit a brick wall and have been going round and round for the past year with no luck (ugh!). So, I thought I would try a different angle and see if someone on the message board might be able to help. I will try not to be too confusing... I will have to do a little history beforehand, though. I am sorry for the length but I wanted to make sure I put all the information out there that I could.

The ancestor I am looking for is CHARLES MADOX and whom he may have married. Charles is the father of PELAGIE MADOX.

==================
Part One.....
Pelagie Madox married Jean Baptiste St. Francois 18 April 1803 at Detroit, L'Assomption de Sandwich de Windsor (Douin Records). She was JB's 2nd wife. The marriage record states that Pelagie was the "natural" daughter of Charles Madox and that Charles was a "Convert." I also know from Charles' burial record that he was a meat caterer/trader "at the post."

Witnesses for the Groom: JEAN BAPTISTE LEDUC, DOMINIC LEDUC, Andre Peltier, Joseph Amable Bigras, Francis Champagne and Pierre Giroux.

Witnesses for the Bride: Jean Baptiste Ouellette, Charles Ouellette, Alexander Ouellette, Alexis Delisle and Henry Blondin.

==================
Part Two:.....
Jean Baptiste St. Francois' 1st wife was Genevieve Cloutier, daughter of Zacharie Cloutier and Marie Josephe of the Sauteaux Nation. I do not know if they had any children before she died.

Witnesses for the Groom: JEAN BAPTISTE LEDUC, Andre Peltier and Marie Josephe Peltier wife of Jean Baptiste Pare.

Witnesses for the Bride: Charles Spinard (?), Andre Goupille, Claude Reaume and Jean Baptiste Pare.
==================

Elisabeth Peltier was the Godmother of JB and Pelagie's son, Jean Baptiste St. Francois

JEAN BAPTISTE LEDUC was the Godfather of JB and Pelagie's daughter, Pelagie St. Francois

Jean Baptiste Proux was Godfather and Victoire Ouellette was the Godmother of JB and Pelagie's daughter, Louisa

==================
JEAN BAPTISTE LEDUC was a witness to both of JB St. Francois' marriages. Were they related????? Or maybe just very good friends.....

I am wondering if Charles being a "Convert" was married to an Indian woman and I have not a clue how to go about researching. Another question is where did he do his trading (he died about 1788)? Where would I find records for "traders?"

Also, Pelagie is mentioned as the "natural" daughter of Charles so was her mother Indian??? I have read that a “natural child” is a child of an Indian. Again, I am lost and do not know where to begin researching. This is all new territory for me...

Did Pelagie choose the witnesses to her marriage because they were family members? I don't know anything about how witnesses were chosen.

Another thing to add to the confusion (sorry) is that all of the St. Francois family were killed on 2 Oct 1813 except for Pelagie (mother) and daughter Scholastique (my ancestor). According to Fr. Christian Denissen, "Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region 1701-1936," the family were "scalped by the Indians." I don't speak or read French so I had the burial records translated and nowhere does Fr. Gabriel Richard state they were "scalped." Does anyone know if there are more records out there that would indicate they were scalped????? The dates of their deaths are close to the day Tecumseh died (5 Oct 1813). They all lived in Monguagon (now Trenton) Michigan.

I do not know if Pelagie remarried or where she went after her family's deaths. I could never find any records if she remarried. I have Scholastica in the Monroe, Michigan 1850 Census married and have had no trouble tracing her to me.

Sorry for the lengthy and confusing post. I know I have lots of questions and like I said, I have hit a brick wall.

Anything, and I mean anything, you can suggest would be wonderful to me.

Thank you!!!
I just happened to notice this post. William Willard LeDuc was born 2 Sept 1856 in Rutland Co., Vermont, child of Joseph LeDuc and Emily Daignau (surname ?, death certificates of her children also give Desmois and Desmarais). Joseph LeDuc born 28 Oct 1829 St-Cesaire, Quebec, died 4 Feb 1908 Kerns, Belgrade Twp., Nicollet Co., Minnesota. Emily born Oct 1827, Quebec, died 11 Dec 1907 Kerns, Belgrade Twp., Nicollet Co., Minnesota.

I have considerably more on this line's ancestry and descendants.

I have a Mary A. Finn born around 1880 in Troy, NY. I haven't had a record of her husband, but I do have her father as Francis (Frank) Finn. I have a lot of information on this line if it is the right one. There aren't that many Finns in Troy and Francis was born in Quebec, which is a good fit for a name like LeDuc.

Mike

Leduc/Longpre/McCaffery in Ontario

Does anyone out there have any personal knowledge of a marriage that took place in North Bay ON between a John Eugene Leduc and Florence Longpré on July 27, 1942. There are records online which claim that Eugene married a Cath. McCaffery, and that his brother John Lawrence married said Florence Longpré. However, original record in Assumption Church in N. Bay, cleary shows the marriage of Eugene to the Longpré woman. On the same day, his brother Lawrence was batized in same church. There are some hard to read remarks by the priest on both records. The parents of these brothers are John Henry Leduc & Charlotte Hales. How Cath. McCaffery fits into this, I cannot figure. Can anyone help with this?
I am just beginning the histry search of my family's geneology and I know that my Grandma (Irene Vallier) whose maiden name was irene Massaway was the daughter of a LeDuc and i believe it was her mother. If anyone kows this tie, i would really appreciate help with this.

Greetings Michelle,

Louis is another common French name that
we often run into, much like Pierre aka Peter.
Location would be one indicator of the family branch
this Leduc would be from.

For Example, where was Peter Louis Leduc born ?
We would be able to locate his birth records
and death certificate.

Thanks.
Hope this gives some help.

Greetings Gary,

I must suggest you contact the Leduc Family association
as the L'Abbe Cyprien Tanguay's documents have been
noted to have many errors.

I do not know how or why, but the PRDH and the association
has noted these errors.

I am from the Pierre Leduc line and my great aunt also used
the Dictionary of Genealogies of Canadian Families
by Abbe Cybrian Tanguay.
It has taken me much communication and cross refrencing to
other source documents to find the errors.
But I will say Tanguay is good for pointing one in the right direction as to where to look for clues and other documents for our family.

Also my Great Aunt also points out errors in the
Denissen Compilation located in the Detroit Library.

The Leduc Family Association has a website

However, I would be more than happy to chat with you should you want to drop me a line.

north_nova@yahoo.com

Hi Sherrie,

No I am not directly related to these ancestors of yours.
Their marriage is the lastest information I have on this couple. Although I do go a bit back from them.

I have Genevieve as the 4th child of 8 children, Genevieve's father Charles was the son of Rene Leduc & Elisabeth-Marie-Isabelle Fortier (7th born of 8).. Rene is the brother of my direct ancestor, one of the many Pierre's. Although their father Pierre was born abt 1670 in France..

I do have a bad habit of following the "cousin" lines, sometimes it leads to information on my direct line.

An example is my great grandfather Lewis Marvin LaDuke (US spelling) born March 20, 1842, Fort Covington, N.Y.. I could never find anything on his birth other than his Civil war record and death certificate. Then while I was looking into one of his Aunt Clara's line's in Canada I found his baptismal record (Louis Leduc) dated May 26, 1842 which stated he was 2 months old and born in the United States.

If you would like to exchance information I would be very happy to so.

Nina

Fred and Lillian were my grandparent also. My father, Raymond was one of three children that they had together. My father was told that Lillian died in and around 1941 or 1942. I was told the same information that you have been told. I have been told in the past 10 years that she was still living in the 1960's. That she was also remarried. I can not verify any of these fact, but I wish I could.

Hello! I've been reading this thread about Cheboygan MI LeDucs. According to one of the earlier posts, I believe I have a connection to this group. However, I think I have come conflicting information.....Marion Lillian's grandparents, Charles LeDuc and Elise Isabel who had two sons, William and Edmund LeDuc. When Elise died, Charles remarried Eliza Charbonneau. They had 3 children....Charles Jr., Flossie and Laura. This Charles is the brother of my ggrandmother Albina LeDuc who also lived in Alverno, Cheboygan Co. Charles and Albina's parents were Charles LeDuc and Angele Longtin of Beauharnois, Quebec. Charles and Albina had 9 other siblings, several who came to Michigan. My ggrandmother Albina was also married to a distant LeDuc cousin, Jean Baptiste LeDuc. They had 5 children. Any clarification that you could offer related to these folks would be welcome!

Thank you! Mary Ann Williams :)

LeDuc, Bazile

Iam looking for the wife of Bazile LeDuc. She was born Catherine L'Huillier in c1834 in France. She came first to eastern New York where she married Thomas Dickinson in 1859. They had two children Mary b.1860 and John b.1862. Thomas was killed in the Civil War in 1864 and is buried in Atlanta Nat. Cem. in Georgia. Catherine moved to Lewis County, NY to be with her parents. Catherine was there from 1865 to at least 1871. By 1871 She had married Bazile Siduque/LeDuc. In the 1881 Canada Census they all were in Valleyfield, Beauhamous, Quebec. The two children's last name was spelled Dickson at this time. By July 5,1887 there was a marriage of a Jean-Baptist Dickson to a Marie DeLage. I was also wondering what happen to these children.

leduc family Penetanguishene Ontario

My family is living in B.C. but originated in the East of Canada. My ggggrandfather was born Thomas James LeDuc in 1834 in Penetanguishene, Ontario. He went on to become a schoolteacher and moved to B.C. Here, he met and married Rose Schubert and continued to teach school in Cache Creek and Armstrong. He and Rose divorced after awhile but Thomas continued to live in the Armstrong area and quit teaching to take up farming. I don't believe he ever re-married but lived out his life there and stayed close to his children. His father and mother are where I run into trouble. I believe that his dad was born in 1811 in Quebec and moved to Ontario, his name being Thomas LeDuc as well. I cannot find anything on his wife or any other children. The biggest problem is that there are so many Leduc branches and not all being related that it gets confusing. I'm not sure why I am stuck here as I can find the odd thing about Thomas Leduc over the years but I can't be sure if it is the correct one (there are alot of Thomas' ) and it sometimes hard to differentiate them. One other thing that may ring a bell is that Thomas James married the daughter (Rose) of Catherine Schubert, a famous overlander. When Rose divorced Thomas, she remarried and became a Swanson. Thanks so much to anyone who can help me with this little hurdle.

leduc family Penetanguishene Ontario

My family is from B.C. but originated in the East. My ggggrandfather was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario in 1834. He went on to become a schoolteacher and eventually moved to B.C. where he married Rose Schubert. His name was Thomas James LeDuc and he continued to teach in Cache Creek and Armstrong where he eventually became a farmer. He later divorced Rose but lived out his life in Otter Creek and remained close to his children. I believe his father's name was also Thomas LeDuc (as were so many others, unfortunately for those searching ancestors) and I think he was born in Quebec around 1811 and later moved to Simcoe county but he may have been born in Ontario. There are so many LeDuc's and I can't seem to find out where this branch originated beyond the info I have. If I knew more about who Thomas James' mother is and which branch his father came from and if he had any sibs, I could go back from there. I don't know why I am having so much trouble with this one time era but I seem to be stuck here. Perhaps if there are still any relatives around Ontario that recognize any of this info, they could help me. One other thing that may ring a bell is that Thomas James LeDuc married the daughter (Rose) of overlander Catherine Schubert. When she remarried after the divorce, her last name became Swanson. Thanks so much for any help I can get.

My ancestors are the ones that im looking for. I believe that Thomas' parents are Thomas LeDuc and Mary or Mary Madeliene Callaghan who were married around Simcoe county approx. 1836. Im not sure of these facts but they fit fairly well. I'm also wondering if they had any other children and what area of Simcoe they lived in. I think if I can verify that these are Thomas (JR) parents, I might be able to go backwards from them easier. This is pretty much all I know and I would appreciate any info. Thanks. Rena.
