i think we are of the same descendents. Dudley Lee seems to be the first generation of our side of Lees in the US. Our family is as follows. Dudley Lee fathered Nicholas Lee ( It seems there were two Nicholas, one spelled "nicholas" and the other spelled "nicholes". Nicholas woh fathered Christopher Columbus Lee who fathered Theodore Lee who is brothers with Forest L. Lee, your descendent. So i guess that makes us cousins.... 10 x removed?? lol

I think we have the same Dudley Lee of Garrett, MD. GGGG is Nicholas Lee, son of Dudley Lee and Margaret Fetters. I read somewhere that Dudley Lee might have more than 19 children; however, they are probably not all his real children. Could be children of 2 wives before their marriage. Any information of this? And is Nicholas Lee the one of the boilogical children of Dudley Lee? Do you have any other information prior to Dudley Lee? Like where in Ireland is he from? Any relations to Gen Robert E Lee? Just started my research. Thanks.

Hope this is still a working email address. I am just starting the research on the Hinchhe/Lee family. I hve a Jacob B. Hinchee marrying Mary Jane Lee in 1851 in KY. I see that on the message boards there are comments of being related to Robert E. Lee. Do you have any info that connects Mary Jane to Robert E. Lee? Some boards say that see is a neice.
Thank you, Mary

We drew it back when I was in High School, but have since lost the information and my Grandparents have passed. That is one of the reasons I am on Ancestory.com.

Lees in Bibb, AL - who is their father?

Hopkins Lee, who married Tabitha Lee, moved to Bibb Co., AL with his family before 1820. His will, dated March 22, 1842, was found in Bibb Co. and lists his children:
1) Mary “Polly” m. Ezekiel Yeager 1822, 2) Bryant b. 1804 , 3) Cullen b. 1808, 4) Nancy b. 1800-10 m. Hiram/Niram Peterson, 5) Edith b. 1813 m. Robert Stacy, 6) Jackson b. 1815-20, and possibly another daughter who m. David Henderson. These children, except for maybe Jackson, were born in North Carolina.

However, there is another group of Lees in Bibb Co. that were born in the same timeframe as Hopkins’ children but in Tennessee. They are:
1) William Lee b. ~1793 in TN m. Nancy Jackson? (b.~1796NC) d. 1854 Tishamingo, MS. He moved from TN to Bibb Co., AL around 1818 and to Tishamingo Co., MS around 1841
2) Lewis Lee b. 1794 in TN	m. Polly Yeager Jan. 31,1822 in Bibb Co. d. after 1850 probably in Bibb Co. When he married Polly Yeager in Bibb Co., Hopkins Lee’s son Bryant was his bondsman.
3) John Lee b. 1790-1800 m. Peggy Kornegay Jan. 11, 1821 in Bibb Co., bondsman Lewis Lee. He died around 1840 in Bibb Co., Edward Lee was appointed administrator of his estate.
4) Sarah Lee b. 1800 inTN m. Barney Kornegay March 4, 1821 in Bibb Co., bondsman Bryant Lee. She died 1889 in Bibb Co.
5) Edward Lee b. 1800-1810, he is in Bibb Co. records through 1843 then I don’t know if he died or moved.
There is also a Celia Lee b. ~1800 in NC m. Robert R. Thompson who seems to be related to these Lees also.

It would seem from the close ties between this set of Lees and Hopkins Lee’s children that they were cousins. It seems that their parents moved to Tennessee before 1793, they were all born in Tennessee, and then these siblings joined their uncle Hopkins Lee and his family in Bibb, Alabama. However, I cannot figure out who their father is. He must surely be a brother or cousin of Hopkins Lee. Hopkins’ brother Burrell Lee has been suggested as their father, but Burrell lived in Madison Co., AL and had a large well-documented family who were born at the same time as these unknown Lee siblings. They simply don’t fit into his family.

Can anyone give me any direction or help?
Hello Pamela,
I am the great Grand Nephew of Hattie Lee Larrabee who lived in Louisville , Ky. She submited a doccument to the Daughters of the American Revolution. It can be found in DAR Volume 152, ID # 9051. She submited it in 1901 andI have a copy. I agree with you that there appears to be some error because I was never able to find any information that supports the fact that Matilda was Thomas Simms Lee's daughter unless Matilda was a middle name of one of his daughters. I hope this helps you a little. By the way, can you tell me how I can find a copy of Thomas Simms Lee's will on Ancestry.com ? It would help me to finalize this error in my Larrabee Family history file .
Thanks,
Robert

What do you have on the wards? I have sent email to the Jefferson County Genealogical Society and will let you know what I get.

I have a relative who was named Charles Van Rensselaer Lee. I have no information on his parents names. I am curious if Rensselaer Lee may be related. I had thought Charles may have Van Rensselaer as his middle name because his Mother maiden name may have been named Rensselaer. VAN meaning "son of" Rensselaer. A common way of naming sons back then. But now with this Rensselaer Lee shows up, I am very curious. Any one have any Charles Van Rensselaer Lee in their family? It looks as though he was born in Canada. Died in Kalispell MT at 47 yrs. He was my G.Grandfather. I have seen the Rensselaer family being from NY. So I thought it wasn't so odd to end up in Canada.

Anyone with information. I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you. Jan

Read your posts. Charles Lee is a direct ancestor of mine also.
My son, Greg had the DNA tests run. I don't have the info with me but WIlliam Lee who died in 1717 seems to be in a direct line also. I cannot find Charles Father either but intend to do some research next spring in Bonham, Tx. I have a tax receipt replica made out to him in Bonham in about 1846 (I think.) My son has a genealogy site on tribal pages. With a little searching you can find it. I usually google Roy Lee born in 1900 died in 1973 to find it. He has not updated it in quite a while. At the time we though Charles Lee's father was James Lee but that is not correct. Good luck in your searches.

The site is below. It is online in the Outerbridge Horsey Collection of family papers. I am familiar with the application you are referencing. We are starting a new MD DAR chapter in honor of Mary Digges Lee and I have been trying to get somebody to establish her as a DAR patriot. By looking at the will of Thomas Sim Lee though I don't think he ever had a daughter named Matilda. You have to wonder if a generation is missing. You have to scroll down in the index and find the will by date. I think he left a will in 1819. I am going away for a few weeks but when I come back I was thinking of getting a nice copy of this will from the MD Archives and transcribing it. You can write me at pamelajanez@gmail.com if you have any trouble. pamela

http://mdhistory.net/msaref14/msa_sc1848/pdf/msa_sc1848-0000...

http://mdhistory.net/msaref14/msa_sc1848/html/index.html

I would be interested in finding out the reason why a Matilda Lee is reputedly a daughter of Thomas Sim Lee and his wife Mary Digges. Certainly, there is no mention of her in his rather lengthy will. I am thinking this is some kind of an error. Thanks for any help. pamela
