Lucy Lees b. abt 1883

Hi,
I am trying to find information about Lucy Lees, b. abt 1883, who married my Grandfather, Thomas Morrison, at St Stephens Church, Canonbury, Islington, London on 12 June 1915. Her father was William Lees, a farmer. Thomas was enlisted in May 1915 and left the army in Dec 1917 having been wounded in France. To date I have been unable to find any information on Lucy following the marriage.
Any help, information or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Do not know if you can help me or not. I am looking for a James Lees who was a business man and died sometime around 1898 or before. His wife, name unknow, donated money to build the church I attend, James Lees Memorial Presbyterian in Louisville, KY. New York has always been mentioned in some way or another with this story. I am looking for information about a business man by name of James Lees. His wife donated money after his death to begin a church in Louisville, Kentucky. The church was founded in 1898, so he died not long before I am assuming. Somehow or another New York in involved. Not sure if the business was in Louisville or New York. Someone contacted the church a few years back asking about James Lees, but the pastor knew very little about him. We at the church have always wondered but did not know where to start. Hi glad the info was of some use to you, william was md to a susannah millward but i think william dies quite early and she md again, cannot put my finger on info at the moment but she is on the 1881 with him.

i have a newly found... emily lees from birmingham (born 1852/3), her father was a william lees, he was a scale maker
I dont know a great deal of the fam yet, but emily married in 1878 and became emily griffiths and the fam moved to wolverhampton( im emilys great great grandson)

11 July 1860 - Mother Elizabeth Holt, born 4 March 1860. I have lost track of Joseph William after 1910. Do the dates fit?

Does anybody have any information about a fight that happened in the garden of a property in pipe rideware in staffordshire between a philip lees from pipe ridware and a john lees from cannock, we think this fight was around 1913-1916 but we are a bit vague on the date, it was reported in the newspaper and it went to court so it was not just a little disagrement by the sound of it, any help with this would be most welcome.

Please, can someone tell us the names of the parents of this John LEES of Castlereagh. The IGI has a few possibilities for John LEES born 1771. At least one of them may be related to my family.

The surname spellings LEES and LEIGH were used interchangeably in Staffordshire in the 1700s and early 1800s.

According to www.FreeBMD.com, Mary Ann LEES married William MOON in the first quarter of 1873 in district Mt. Bosworth in England. District Mt. Bosworth is described as follows: "... an alternative name for Market Bosworth ... in the county of Leicestershire" A more complete description is here (a single line URL):

English marriage certificates can be ordered on-line through the following web site: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ All you need besides the couples names, are the year and quarter (1873, Q1), and the index volume and page number (in the case of this marriage volume 7a page 112). The certificate will tell you their fathers' names, exactly where they were married, and the names of witnesses (which are often other family members).

I am looking for info on Mary Ann Lees born June 1854 in England. She married William Moon in England. She had a son Fred before marrying (??), 4 others after marrying - Catherine Ann, Edith M., Henry J., and Frank W. in England. The family then moved to US and had 4 more children, Joseph B., Grover L., Harriet E., Hurbert T., in Virginia and West Virginia. I am in need of HELP with this family! I can't find any info on where they came from.

I have got info on Thomas Evans Lees (including his obituary) and his descendants. I'd like to find out more about his father, James Lees.

He was a major industrialist in Oldham and was the mayor in 1854, but I can't find any other details about him.

Any info would be great.

Thanks for the wonderful info. The intersting part of the story of Hannah is. She married Samuel Lees Dec 1869 at St Thomas, Dudley Eng. He, Samuel, had already been in the U S 1868, 1869. in New york, I do not find him in 1871 in New York , however their second son George was born there in 1873. He is there in 1872 and 1873. I then find them in Tennessee 1876.
The Alfred Lees that is in the house hold of Mary Beddow is Hannah's brother- in -law.
Have been told that a man by the name of Peter Beddow went to the states to help get the coal mines going. Do not know how he fits in the big picture.
You ask about the Cutler family. well, the info that I have is from the 1851 census

Helen's mother Elizabeth COLMAN was English her father Andrew LEES was Scottish.

The couple was married in Jul 1850 New Monkland Parish, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

There is an interesting entry in the 1871 census for Rowley Regis. A Hannah LEE was living with her mother, Mary BEDDOW. Hannah had a brother, Frederick and also in the house was an Alfred LEE, a boarder and a Samuel LEE (Hannah's son)
Both Mary Beddow and Hannah Lee are down as married but no husbands at home that day.
The 1861 census has the family with Richard BEDDOW as the husband of Mary. Hannah has 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
I found a birth for a Samuel Lees in Dudley in March quarter 1871. This area covers Rowley Regis
The census image for 1871 is attached. Can you give me more info on the Cu(t)ler family please?

Hi. Samuel and Hannah were married in (the December quarter) 1869 in Dudley. I found a record of a birth of a Samuel Lees in 1871 in Dudley but it might not be the right one. Hannah was probably born in 1849 in Oldbury, Worcestershire. There is an entry in the 1861 census for a Samuel Lees, born about 1850 in Halesowen, Worcestershire, the son of Samuel and Maria. I am attaching the 1861 census for you to see.

Did you ever find your Lees info? Your Mary Moore Martin was the aunt, the sister of his father, of my John Martin who died in California. Isaac Lees was his uncle, his mother's brother. So both by blood and by marriage they were both related to him. I have further info on both of them from a Lees researcher in Ireland.

Arthur LEES, b. 2 Dec 1897 in Edinburgh, SCOT,
m. 16 Sep 1921, Edinburgh, SCOT, to Edith SINCLAIR (b. 17 Dec 1894, Edinburgh, SCOT. Died 5 Feb 1983, Elyria, Lorain, Ohio. Her parents were George MILLAR SINCLAIR and Catherine GORDON SMITH - of Edinburgh, SCOT). He died 3 Mar 1983 in Elyria, Lorain, Ohio.

His parents were: John/Thomas LEES, b. 1867 either in Scotland or Ireland; m. 26 Apr 1890, Edinburgh, SCOT, to Mary Ann Simpson FULTON; (b. 18 Aug 1866, Scotland; d. 1930?, Edinburgh, SCOT. Her parents were John FULTON and Jane Jeffres SIMPSON). John d. in 1906 from a fall from a bread van in Edinburgh. Have NO other info on John/Thomas LEES.

Arthur's mother sent his 6 mo. old baby brother to "live with Uncle Jack & Aunt Lizzy" after John died in 1906. Not sure if it was John's brother or his son, "Jack".

Does any of this ring a bell? If so, PLEASE, get back to me!

Is there anybody out there researching Walter J T Lees of Aston, Birmingham or relatives. Walter was born in 1877 in Aston and married Rose Hayden (various spellings i.e. Haden), they had 4 daughters, Dolly,Rose Hilda and Ada. Ada was my grandmother. I have found Walter and Rose's ancestors but would desperately love to find photos of Walter and/or Rose. I have a photo of Walter's mum Emma but nothing of him or his wife, my g-grandparents. My husband has quite a few cousins and relatives in Ashton-under-Lyne UK. His grandfather, Walter Lees, was born in 1862 but emigrated to the US. His parents were Robert Lees, b1823, and Betty Knott. They had 10 children, all from Aston. Please reply one way or another.

Hi did think i had a richard lees but he apears to have wolverhampton down as where he was born, do have others living in aston/birmingham, charles lees 1822 being one of them, he was born in the ridwares, where the family came from. Any help to you.

Hi Leona: Saw your comments below. I have ascertained that our Lee (or Lees) ancestors have come from the townland of Dunamoney near Magherafelt. John Lees, Thomas Lees (brothers) and Robert Lees (son of John) all emigrated to Ontario, Canada approx. 1832 with their families. Robert Lees (our direct ancestor) was baptised 19 Mar 1815 in 1st Presbyterian Magherafelt Church. Robert was shown in the baptismal entry as a "Lee", but a Canadian census indicates "Lees". 2005 Electoral roll for Magherafelt area indicates 44 Lees families and 22 Lee families still there. Most happy to share further info on our Lee(s) should you feel there's a possible link. The name "William" seems prominent in their children so there is the possibility that John and Thomas' father's name was William (only conjecture). Are you aware of any of your ancestors emigrating to Canada?

Hi Jeremiah is also my G G Grandfather. His son Sam born 1876 was my G Grandfather and his son Fred my Grandfather. Do you know anything about Jane who was Jeremiah's wife? I've struggled to find any reference to her but my mum recalls a link to America?
