Hi,
My husband is related to the Leftwich family thru his maternal grandmother. Her name was Cora Bean Deering.
My husband's great maternal grandmother was Martha Louise
Leftwich. They came out of Va. If you still have that file
available, I would be interested.
Thank You,
margaretparnell@yahoo.com

Leftwich records need adopting

I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. I’ve sorted them into folders as best I can and here are the surnames and a little about them if I can tell much.

Buttrey – Wilkes Co NC (small file – letters)
Bailey – Topeka Kansas, New Castle, Pa, Youngstown, Ohio (small file, letters)
Loveless – Columbus Ohio, Washington Co., Va (small file, letters)
Wilderich – Henry Wiederick or Wilderick, b Germany 1858, pedigree chart (small file)
Hildebrand – Morgan County, Missouri, John Hildebrand b 1822 in Baden Germany m Victoria Anhauser or Enghauser – (thick file, quite a bit of research)
Trabuc/Trabue – Edward Trabue b 1764, son of John, married Martha Haskins, Jessamine Co., Ky and Va.
King – Joseph King m 1819 to Frances, Lincolnshire England
Nichols – Abner JeffersonNichols b 1837 probably Alabama, poss Missouri or Ark. (one letter only)
Swallow – from England, possible Liverpool (one letter only)
Brown – a few pages of general research
Burton/Cecelia – Philadelphia Pa, research log only
Rouse/Buler – Geoge Rouse and wife and grandfather Daniel Barlow born in Va near Culpepper Court house and moved to Boone Co Ky. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va. (also in the Gregory file)

Group 2:
Bolander – Stephen Bolander b 1756 Lancaster Co Pa m Magaretha Shinkle (small file, letters)
Shinkle – Colorado, South Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Illinois
Bush – Catherine Bush m Philip Jacob Shinkle in Brush Valley, Center Co., Pa. (one letter only)
McConnell – Arthur in Washington Pa, then to Ky, Ohio and Indiana and then his children and grandchildren to Illinois and Iowa, John McConnell served in War of 1812 from Ohio Militia, Brown Co. Ohio
Luing – intermixed in other files
Watson – two lines, one from Oxford who never left England and one from York and Lincoln who came to the western US in the 1920s (small file, letters)
Wyatt – intermixed in other files
Logan – in the same file as Gregg, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana
Gregg – in the same file a Logan, Pennsylvania, Jefferson Co., Indiana

Group 3 – the familes below are all intermingled in one file – Kittaning, Armstrong Co., Pa, Mercer Co., Pa, various Pa, Va and NC counties, also Missouri,
Hellam – George Curtis Hellam m Mary Ellen Hawk
Peat – Oran Peat b 1899 m Gutherie Faye in Pa
Hawk – Daniel Hawk m Magdalena Bricker
Welton – intermarried with the above families

Group 4
Godley – Quaker, Farquier Co, Va, Georgia, Anderson Co., Tx (much research) – also see Peacock
Peacock – from Nottingham England, never came to America, Elizabeth m George Godley and their dau Sarah came to the us in 1924.

These are yours for the price of postage. First to e-mail me, first to get the file. Let me know which files you want.

Roberta Estes
During the 1960's I worked with someone called Charles, better known as Charlie, Leftwich. I'm not sure of the spelling of his surname, and it may have been Leftwych. He was a foreman (quite a prestigious job in those days) at British Electrical Repairs in Newcastle upon Tyne, and was a very keen cyclist. I believe he competed at national level. I lost touch with him in 1966, but recall that he lived in Heddon on the Wall, Northumberland.

charlie leftwich/leftrict

My grandfather is Charles (Charlie) Franklin Leftrict Sr. I'm trying to find information on his siblings and parents. From my understanding the original name of the family is Leftwich but there was some kind of dispute within the family and some members started going by the last name Leftrict. I know that at least one of my grandfathers nephews goes by the name Leftwich. My grandfather was raised by his grandfather Sam "tenderfoot" Leftrict, his mother died when he was very small and I believe he has at least 6-7 brothers and sisters. I know he was born in 1912 I believe in Kentucky but lived in Warren Co Tn most of his life. Either a aunt or sister is Fannie Leftrict Martin. I would like to find the names of his parents and siblings. I'm interested also in why some chose to change the name. Anyone with information that can help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the only Sally I have is Sarah "Sally" Turner who was married to Admire Turner.

I formerly had Sally Leftwich married to James Turner, Jr. but changed that to Mary Admire upon the advice of others.

I'm not sure where I stand in all this right now.

This is why I changed:
The following is from holly_tamer@yahoo.com

Name: *Mary Admire
* Sex: F
* Birth: ABT 1710
* Note: "Leftwich Turner Families of Virginia and their Connection"
* Note: by Walter Lee Hopkins, James Turner had a wife named Mary and they had a son named Admire Turner, this is the only evidence of her name being Admire.
* Note:
* Note: FAYETTE CO., KY
* Note: TAX LIST 1788
* Note: ADMIRE, George
* Note: ADMIRE, George Jr.
* Change Date: 15 NOV 2003
Marriage 1 *James Jr Turner b: ABT 1718 in Caroline Co,Va
* Married: ABT 1730
Children
1. *Ruth Turner b: ABT 1728 in Bedford Co,Va
Actually at this point I'm not sure that I am related to any Leftwich's at all. I've been advised to substitute Mary Admire for Sally Leftwich as the wife of James Turner Jr....married abt 1725-1735 in, presumably, Caroline Co., Va. So that leaves out the Leftwichs for me and brings in the Admires.
To further confuse matters there is this:
Not sure what to do with this, but on page 69 of MARRIAGE BONDS OF BEDFORD COUNTY, VIRGINIA 1755-1800, it reads:
“James Turner and Sally Leftwich, August 24, 1778. Robert Alexander, surety. Certificate of Jno. W. Holt, saying that Majr. Leftwich has given his consent to the marriage of his daughter Sally.”
Now, there may have been two James Turners. Or, perhaps James Turner Jr got married twice; excpet I have him dying about the same time as Mary Admire. So, for the moment, I have no idea of how to answer your question, except to suggest that you locate someone with more information on the Leftwich family.
Sorry,
Renee

I am the gg-granddaughter of Jabez and Nancy Paschal Dingler. Jabez parents were Joel W. and Rebecca Warren Leftwich. His ancestry can be traced in the Leftwich-Turner Families of VA, by Walter Lee Hopkins and in writings by Dr. Oliver C. Weaver. Jabez enlisted in Macon Co. AL (see 1860 census) and died in Richmond, VA 9-26-1864. Nancy moved to Clay Co. (1870 Pickneyville, Clay Co. Census). Her parents, Henry & Sarah Edwards Dingler, had come to the Clay-Randolph Co. area from Troup Co. GA. after 1850. Nancy died 7-25-1903 - buried New Prospect, Randolph Co. AL. Will be happy to share & swap info. with you.

Leftwich- Turner Native American Connection

Hello, I have been trying to make a connection to the Leftwich family of Middle Tennessee. Grady Brown was my father and his parents were Charles Raymond Brown(1909) and Bessie Leftwich born in 1911 Waynesboro Tennessee. Her parents were Frederick Harris Leftwich(1885) and Mary Lizzie Whitehead(1886) .I know the whiteheads are of some Native descent. Freds parents were Henry Peyton(1832)
Leftwich and Ann Louisa Talley(1864). There has to be a connection because I dont think the traits would come this far down to me and I could pass for a full blood Native. As goes for my father and (some) of his siblings. If someone could help me out I would surely appreciate any help. Thanks Robert S Record

He died in October of that year.

I've found Nancy in Clay Co, AL in the 1900 census living with her son, James Henry Leftwich.
TURNERS/LEFTWICH families of Bedford County Va., 1780s are my kin. I too, go back to James Turner. James died about 1789, in Bedford Va. Problem being, was this James, son of a James who outlived his father? His Will is very hard to read, due age, he mentioned James Juner, sons of James to be schooled. And he mentioned James as heir. Been a long time since I read the will, at that time, it appeared to me as to three James. When researching these families look at records of Franklin County as was part of Bedford one time.

Mexico gave large tract of land to Bedford Leftwich family, this land today in Texas has many counties. Robertson family, probably related to the Leftwich, took this tract, developed it and renamed it ROBERTSON Colony. There are links on line of the records of these tractions.
These families are very good chance LEFTWICH kin, OVERSTREET, TURNER, ROBERTSON, DABNEY, BURWELL, AND DICKERSON.
Gerald Preas
Dallas Tx
