My ggg-grandparents were Mathew Cox and Rachel (Watkins) Cox. I have as their son, John Watkins Cox.

I have the death certificate of their son, Matthew Alexander Cox (my cousin.

In regard to Lucy Alexander Legrand Cox, I have visited the graves of her son, my cousin, Samuel James Fulton along with his wife and son. I have photographs of their gravestone in Kansas.

I am very interested in the information you have of the LeGrand/Cox descendancy. Lucy Alexander LeGrand Cox married James Marion Fulton in Buckingham County, Virginia but I can find no information about the groom. Do you have any of that in your research? I have a lot of information about their descendants.

I am sure that Josephine's maiden name is Minnium. I located a copy of the marriage record at the Cuyahoga county archives. I am just not able to verify Josephine's parents with documents. She died in 1930, and a death certificate was completed, but one of her son-in-laws was the source, and he did not correctly document her parents. Do you know of any baptismal or other documents that could assist?

Then we are distant cousins! Did Julia Foot have a sister called Aura? Only I found an Aura Le Grand Foot listed in the 1911 Census in London and thought it must be her sister. Have you looked at www.myjacobfamily.com - there are details of the Le Grands there from Canterbury days and Ireland.

Julia 1851-1923 married Edwin Phillips 1831-1905,their children- Anna MariaLeGrand,George,Percy,Olive,Ida,Ethel and Edgar. Annna 1879-1975 married James Marsh in 1902- children were Ivy,Kenneth and Samuel James.Samuel James 1911-2000 married Hilda Phillips 1911-2000 and had 9 children. My twin brother and I are the youngest surviving children. Anna was our father's mother and Percy was our mother's father. Hope this makes sense.

Matthew Foot children Julia Foot and Aura M Le Grand Foot (?) and married Matthew Cullen) Do not know further than Julia Foot for descendants but know ancestors of William. I found a Claude Le Grand working in Dublin as a Carver and Gilder from 1792-1795. Emigrated to Phildelphia 11 and 12th Street 1796-1804. By 1815 he had moved to New Orleans.

There was a baby born between Ollie and Ottis in 1899. I remember vividly grandma talking about him. She called him Little Joe. He died at age 3. She said he was a sickly baby and she took his death very hard, she was 5 or 6 at the time. She also talked about Teddy and how she had to carry him everywhere. She was a young teenager and her mom was not around. If I remember correctly she was working because Mary Margaret was having issues with AJ. Teddy would call Ollie "mom"

My great great grandmother was Anna Maria Le Grand born we think mid 1820s, grew up in Portarlington and was the youngest of 6 daughters of a Major and Mrs LeGrand. The LeGrands we were told came from France but know nothing else.
Anna married Matthew Foote and had 6 children, Julia born 1851 was my great grandmother He died and she married David Cullen and had 4 more children.

This is helpful. It helps me support that Josephine Charity is one of the daughters of Simon and Fanny. The "LeGrand" middle name seems to be localized to this family.

Hi, I was just checking my options for possible fathers for my great grandfather Eliud LeGrand Jackson, his mother had 7 children but never married, and there are a couple of stories going around the family, but no one seems to know for sure which one is true... one story was that there was a travelling minister named Lewis from Great Marsh baptist church that had fathered all 7 children, of which Eliud LeGrand Jackson was the eldest... it is such an odd middle name that I think he must have been named for someone, and I wondered if Legrand could have been the true name of the minister instead of Lewis, as the Great Marsh church does not have him on record, another story was that the father may have been one of the Ray family of Robeson co. so I am just tracking down every possibility for finding Eliu's father.

I am looking for any record of my gg grandmother Josephine Charity (sometimes Charity Josephine) born in Crawford County Penn in 1850 (month of June I believe). She married a Benjamin Cox from England and lived in the Cleveland Ohio area. In searching all of the cencus records for 1850 (she should be a baby as the cencus was there in the month of August). Her maiden name is Minnium (she chose to use the doulble m - Minnium). There is only one Minnium family that has a baby in the 1850 cencus and that is Simon Samuel and Fanny Ann (Gehr) Minnium, but the child is listed as Sarah C.. One of the other children listed is Lucetta Minnium (13 years old). The next census - 1860 has Lucetta married with a one month old infant and Josephine - a 9 year old is living with her.

Later Lucetta gives the middle name of LeGrand to one of her sons, and Josephine does the same - middle name of LeGrand for her first son.

I would like verification that the Sarah C is indeed Josephine C.

I would also be interested in the LeGrand name connection.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Damon G. Legrand, 27, of Lakeside, Calif., died June 12 in Baqubah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with anti-tank mines, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 571st Military Police Company, 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, Fort Lewis, Wash.

One minor correction. The correct spelling of my father's name is Ottis, not Otis. He was born in Flat River, Mo on October 17, 1903 and died in Prineville, OR on May 2,1983.
Regarding Joseph and Mary's children (how about that: Joseph and Mary!), the correct order is Frederick, Kate, Ollie, Mabel, Ottis, Henry, William, and Teddy. William and Columbus are the same person. Hope this helps, Ed LeGrand

Anthony --Thanks for the response. A.J. LeGrand was a Civil War captain on the Union side (Charcoal Division). He died in Washington County, MO on Feb 22, 1880. His wife Margaret Hanks died on Aug 16, 1886. Margaret and Abraham Lincoln were first cousins. Joseph Abraham was the sixth of their seven children. My father told me that the Hanks family was with Lincoln when he moved from Kentucky to Illinois. I have no info on John Harris, but Margaret Hanks' parents were Dennis Friend Hanks and Sarah Elizabeth Johnston.

I have four genealogical charts prepared by my nephew several years ago. I would be glad to provide you with them. Ed
