I dated Mark in college and was actually looking for information on him and his family. I did not know his dad had passed away. Actually, I knew chronologically his grandmother had to have passed away but had never actually heard. I haven't seen Mark or Mike in years but would like any information you have on the well-being of Mark and the family. Thank you.

I just received information on Lorenz's parents and grandparents and where in Germany they are from. Go to the following website: http://www.geni.com/people/Lorenz-Leibold/311856499360005019

This website says that Lorenz's parents were Jakob and Friederika Leibold and were from Rielingshausen, Wuerttenberg Germany and goes all the way back to Jerg Leibold who died in 1690. This is the first I've seen of Lorenz's family in Germany and is pretty exciting to me.

Let me know if you are able to locate anything further.

Terry Leibold
Lawrence, Kansas

Hi Margret:

These would have been the Catholic variety of Leibold's. Some of my relatives say they came from Oberdresenfeld which no longer exists. I think this town might have been near Wurtemberg, but I am not 100% sure. Here is another question you might be able to answer. The relative I can track (Lorenz)came in 1853 on a boat called Juno. I have seen a copy of the passenger list, which includes two other Leibold's (Georg and Caroline) which I cannot account for. I do not know what happened to them or where they went, but I know for sure they did not come with Lorenz. I would have assumed they were together being on the same boat and having the same last name. But, I do not know what happened to them. I cannot find them anywhere in any census data or any other records. Do you know if this was common for people to split up?? Any help you could offer would be great. Thanks again.

Which confession did they have? If catholic they could have been from the Württemberg area. If lutheran they probably came from a different area, I could probably give you contact detailes to someone who did a great deal of research on the lutheran Leibolds.

I've read of Leibolds that came to Germany from Swizerland during the 17th / 18th century.

I am concentrating right now on a different branch of my family, so I am not familiar anymore with all the details I once knew about.

Sorry that I couldn't help more. But will try to find the correct place for you. I do not believe that it has been totally erased from the landscape.

Margret

Hello there! I am trying to find out where Lorenz Leibold came from in Germany. It is believed to be from an area called Oberdresenfeld which apparently no longer exists. I am trying to find out if there are still Leibold's from that family still over there. He was born around 1791 and came to Dubuque County Iowa around 1853 or 1854. He married Anna Walberga (spelling?) and they had several children. Any ideas?

This is my line also. Lorenz Leybold's daughter Mary Catherine Leybold married John Heiberger (1834-1917). They had several children in Dubuque County, Iowa, including my ggrandmother Mary Ellen "Lina" Heiberger (1869-1964), who married Francis Joseph Putz (1866-1944). This will need a computer to sort out, since Frank Joe's older brother John Baptista Putz (1859-1948) married Mary Schacherer (1862-1926 or 1928), who was also a Leibold descendant.

Where I am confused at this point is John (Johann, actually) Heiberger's parents. His father was apparently also a Johann Heiberger (ca 1800-1871). I have at least one record that says his mother was another Catherine Leybold, born around 1799! Did Lorenz have a sister or cousin Catherine? Is it possible that John Heiberger (1834-1917) married a first or second cousin?

My great-grandfather, Robert Leibold, emigrated to the U.S. just before the turn of the 20th century. He was born in Burladingen in 1866, and ultimately made his way to Montana, where his family settled for many years near Helena and Swan Lake, until migrating southeastward, to Independence, Missouri, where he lived until his death in 1951. I would love to uncover my great-grandfather's military service record from Germany. Judging by photographs of him in uniform, it is likely he served on active duty in the German army between 1885-1890.

I hope you didn`t give up.
I am researching my Leibold family from the Rottweil area right now and if I happen to find anything about a Caspar Leibold I`ll let you know.
The churchbooks might be found in the Diözesanarchiv Rottenburg where they do offer researchhelp. It costs 30 Euro for half an hour. The other place to look would be the Archive in Freiburg.
If you already found something I would like to find out if our Leibolds were related. My Leibolds came from Wilfingen/Wellendingen and Hausen ob Rottweil. It was a really big family!!

I am 99% sure (going from memory) that we are talking about the same Ernest Leibold. I recall reading in a Bertha paper that Elmer Leibold went down to the funeral of Ernest Leibold because I thinkkkkk his obituary was in the Bertha paper. I will have to check that out. Anyways...yes i do have some information.
I don't have much time buttt...here it goes
Ernest
b. 1880 Medford Twnsp, MN
m.
d. 1927
SP: Augusta Wagner
Siblings: Charles, Mary, Elura, Laura, Rosetta, George Elmer, Harry, and a few more
F: Philip Leibold
b. Nov 1834
d. Dec 20, 1907 Bertha, Todd Co, MN
Sp: Elizabeth Wolford
b. Ohio
d. 1889 Steele county, MN
2nd marrige: Mary F. Porter m. 1891
she died 1895
3rd marriage Lucinda Lee McCrady (widow of William McCrady, they were George Elmer's wife's grandparents)
I have more but i Have class now
Will send it later!
Ryan

Hi Julie,
Well I can understand why you are not sure yet. The dates are all from memory on my part. Here is what I am going to do. I am going to call the Todd County Historical Society and see what his obituary says cause I believe it is in there. And all the names seem familiar so that is what i will do. Also, do you have his obituary? Also, how are you related to him? My lineage goes like this:
Ryan Baron<<Doris Beckman<<Carol Plautz<<Laura Leibold<<George Elmer Leibold<<Philip and Elizabeth Leibold.

I will most likely call tomorrow and see if the linkage is correct then i will be able to give you the information I have.
Hope things go correctly but I am confident they will because I have a pretty good memory and I recall names easily and it seems I know of Ernest's wife and kids and I am thinking he had two kids for some reason. I know I have seen his obituary though :)
Talk to you later!
Ryan
PS Are you located in Minnesota?

Leibold (Germany + America)

Hello!
I'm searching my great grandfather Theodor Leibold.

He was born in 1867/1868 and came from Burladingen (Baden-Württemberg,Germany) to America at 16th March 1904 at the age of 37. He shipped from Bremen,Germany with 'SS Kronprinz Wilhelm' to Ellis Island, New York and wanted to go to his brother in law Gustav (surename unknown) in Butte, Montana. He was farmer.

He was married with Barbara Pfister and had had 4 children (Joseph Leibold, Hillaria Leibold, Marie Seemann and Theodor (?) Leibold) who stayed in Germany.

When he shipped to America in 1904, there were two persons from Burladingen too: Antonia Winte (at the age of 19) and Marg. Hauser (at the age of 11) who wanted to go for her father Kasper or Kaspar Hauser.

Perhaps once my great grandfather visited his family in Germany and went back to Butte, Montana at 18th February 1913 with the 'George Washington'.

In Butte, Montana I lost his race. Where can I get documents? Who can help me??

Regards from Germany

Ulrike Rathke

There were and still are several Leibold familys in Germany. One in Saxony (lutherans), one in Forst in Baden, one in Bavaria and one in Wilfingen/Hohenzollern which is close to Rottweil in Württemberg.

The last ones are one of my branches. I do have an Emilia Leibold in my tree but she was born 1853 and died 1853. She was a granddaughter of Ulrich Leibold. Ulrich had several brothers who might have had a daughter Emilie. I haven`t gone to far on the Leibold family yet but if I find anything I`ll let you know.
