I did find an abstract of a Will of Frederick Foster. Probated 23 Apr 1784, written 23 Oct 1783 in Perquimans. Brother Francis Foster's children, Gilbert Leigh and Joseph Bateman's children, brother John Foster's children, sister Sarah Night, brother Ellsberry Foster, sister Winnifred Foster, Francis Pits, Dempsey Newby's widow, Mary Bateman's children, Mary Maudlin, widow Stevenson, brother Francis Foster and Geo. Whedbee Exrs. Test: John Bateman, Wm. Whedbee.

Joseph Leigh, born abt 1884 in Dublin, Ireland is my direct ancestor, too. I have no doubt that he was the son of Baron Thomas Leigh, because of the very early references and stories to this, and the fact that he did name a son Thomas, too. If you look at a time line for Baron Thomas Leigh, he was in Dublin, Ireland at the time that Joseph was born, too. However, it would be nice to prove Joseph's birth with any kind of record. The Church of Ireland in Dublin may have a copy of his birth....maybe the records were not thoroughly looked through...maybe. If he was the youngest of 16 children, as has been written, since Baron Thomas' children that are named online do not number 16, there could be a few who died young....and of course a few who simply were not recognized in Thomas' will because of where they were in the "line-up", and the English inheritance laws. I still would like to think that there would be a baptisimal record for Joseph somewhere, since baptism was very important. Would like to work with you to see what we can find to PROVE Joseph's birth. I do think what has been gathered is fair circumstantial evidence, but again, it would be nice to find solid proof. I'm looking for a family of Leighs living in Liverpool by 1800 - all I have are the names of 5 girls, but would like to find out who the parents are; they may be sisters or cousin.

Names and approximate birthdates are:

Margaret - 1795
Eliza - 1798
Jane - 1801
Mary - 1804
Sarah - 1806

If anyone can help with a lead, I would greatly it since this info is part of my PhD research.

I note on your list that you have Robert Mutch, who married a Leigh. I believe he was my great Uncle who settled in Peru. He was born in 1903 in South America. My family were settled there. They returned to the UK by 1909, when my late great Aunt Frances Agnes Mutch was born in London. Both my grandmother, Gladys Rachel Mutch (b.1906) and Robert Mutch returned to South America later. My grandmother came back to UK. I have a picture of his wedding to ?? Leigh on 7th January 1930something. Do you know if this is the correct family that yours links into and if so do you have any further info about my great uncle.

I am still looking for information on Annie. Looks like her middle name was Rebecca. I spoke to some relatives who said her people were Perrins. She named one of her sons Robert Perrin Ashley. So maybe her mothers maiden name was Perrin and her father was a Leigh/Lay or vice versa. This is my brick wall can anyone help?

I believe this to be my Great, Great Great Grandfather. I have John "Leigh" Lee born between 1810-1812 in Appling, GA married Elizabeth Swilley in 1834. Nine possible children. Second child John Hamilton (b. 1835 married Telitha Cowart) John/Telitha had 6 or 7 children. There child James Marion Lee b. 1877 married Mariana Keziah Cowart. James/Keziah had 14 children. 13th child Wayne Leroy Lee was my Mom's father. I'm am looking for John "Leigh" Lee's parents(and anything on Elizabeth Swilley). Any help?

I am David Leigh of Berlin, Wisconsin, USA. My father was Norman Leigh (dec 1998), grandfather Louis Leigh (dec 1950). I remember my father talking about his uncle, James Leigh. I don't remember where he was from or places he lived. My parents went to a Leigh family reunion once in the 1980's (I think). I think my Dad said the invitation came from Pennsylvania. It was held around the Appleton, WI area. He did tell me about 300-400 people attended from much of the United States. My Dad had three brothers, Bernard, Donald and Robert and three sisters, Bernice (Robert Freund), Dorothy (Ben Drover), and Norma (Robert Traupmann divorced, Artur Coleman). Robert is the only one still living.

I too am trying to find the parents of William Leigh born 10 Oct 1687 in Shankill, Dromore diocese, Armagh, N. Ireland married to Mary Hamilton born 9 Feb 1686. Dear T. Hammerbeck: I was very interested in your post, concerning your mother's research. My great, great grandfather was Armistead Claiborne Leigh (b. abt. 1818) and married to Fannie E. Lane (b. abt. 1824)in Amelia, VA in 1843. They moved to Grenada,MS. I found the 1850 census where they and their sons (one was my great grandfather)were listed in Grenada. Would this be any of the Leigh Family that your mother has been researching? I am trying to find the parents in Virginia of A.C. and Fannie. Also, I have come across names of "cousins" of my grandfather with middle names like "Randolph," "Townes," "Wilder," and, of course, "Armistead," "Claiborne," and "Macon." Leigh Males have you tested your dna??

This is a message for the Leigh males of this line. My lee line asked a distant Lee male relative to test his dna 43 markers and we found that we were related not to the VA LEEs but instead to the Carrickfergus Lees of which some of the descendants came from the Huntingdon NJ area... A Francis Lee and Gershom.
If one of your Leigh males would test dna, I would love to know if we are related to your line of Leighs????

My Ancestor is James Lee of Pulaski KY and VA Rev War patriot and I am seeking information of Pedigree to find his real family and parents who are a mystery at this point. This is my father Dr. John Robert Lee's direct male line.

I recently had a DAR application verified on my ancestor, Joseph Leigh. I would like more possible documentation on his parents and English heritage. What ever happened to the large family Bible that he brought with him from England? The last that I had heard about it was a reference to it being in the posession of an Elmer Ewing of Hopewell, NJ in the 1940's. I would sure like a photo copy of all of the family history pages from that Bible! I am interested in sharing information with you.

The 1911 census confirms my 'welsh' grandfather was actually born in Stockport Cheshire in 1876. There is a William born at that time in Heaton Norris but when I work forward to 1901 census it looks like he was still in that area and married. I need to find out if this supposition is correct or whether that William moved to South Wales (Neath)between 1891 and 1901.

Sorry for the delay in replying - did get your email thank you but what with Christmas etc not really had time to look at it in detail. However, it is looking unlikely that our trees are related as after a quick glance I couldn't see any connection but you never know once I have your information side by side with mine there might be one. James Leigh (John's father) was born in appx. 1905 in Ireland. He married Catherine Murphy (also of Ireland) and they had children Margaret, Mathew, John, James, Patrick (b. 1832 in Ireland), Thomas, Mary Ann, Martha, Peter and Joseph. Murphy died in Maine, the state the Leigh's first lived upon emigrating to the U.S. Later, James moved the family to Wisconsin. Peter married Anna in the early 1870 (arrived in the U.S. 1838) and they had children Mary, Lewis, and Paul.

I recently re-connected with the Thomas Willam Leigh, son of William Leigh and grandson of Denis Leigh of Preston, Lancashire. Denis was my grandfather's older brother.

I have have found most of my Leigh lineage from the Preston, Lancashire area. The family originally came from South Dublin/Co. Wicklow between 1901 and 1906. Two brothers, Joseph and Louis are my brickwalls. Joseph married Alice Dixon, both worked for Powell's Biscuits. They were married in the 1920's. Joseph had an older brother named Louis who married Elizabeth Horn of Walton-le-dale. Louis and Elizabeth had a daughter Evelyn b.1926 who married John Robert Wells also of Walton-le-dale. Louis may have worked for Drupley's electrical factory, and asa gardner. John hada sister Edith Wells, her mother's maiden name was Roberts. Joseph and Louis were both in WW1. Joe and Lois had 3 other brothers, William, Denis, and Alex. They also had 7 sisters: Esther, Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Margaret Mary, Ellen, and Catherine. I have the whereabouts of all and their decendents except for Joe and Louis.

My family lived in the Enniskerry area between 1877 and 1890. My great-grandfater was named John Leigh (b.1853) married to Mary Ann Nugent (b.1855) in 1877. Their children were Esther Mary, Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, Catherine, Ellen, Margaret Mary, Denis, Louis, Joseph, William John, and Alexander. I believe John Leigh had a brother named James who married a Catherine. These names are one generation off of the Leighs that came to Maine and Wisconsin. My Leighs lived at the Ballybawn House west of Enniskerry. John Leigh was a farmer (gardener?). The family moved to South Dublin after 1890 and to Preston, Lancashire around 1905.
The James Leigh family remained in the area of Enniskerry, Kildare, and Bray.

George and Sarah divorced on Sep 1883 at Rock Port Atchinson County, Missouri

I have a copy of the divorce records. Sarah must not have been able to read because her name is shown as Lee on the records.

I also have data on Amos and Clyde and all of their familys

Amos died 30 Jan 1936 at the American Hospital in Chicago He is buried at Turtle Lake, Barron County Wisconsin.
