Leinonen is a Finnish name. A lot of Finnish names come from the place they were born or lived. Leinonen comes from the area between Oulo and Kajaani there is a farm called Leinola. Male inhabitants used the surname Leinonen and females used Leinotar.
I hope this helps a little

If you have any connection with Minnesota or Oregon or possibly NYC, there might be something I can connect you with as to the name Leinonen. My grandfather came from Finland around 1900 with his family and he had a twin brother that died on the voyage. I am 60 now, and he was 17 or so at his leaving Finland. He died in 1950 in Northern Minnesota. That is about all I know, other than some research that I did and visiting cemeteries in N. Minnesota, and the Finnish Museum in Menagha, Minnesota.

Are there any possible decendants out there? Please help...

Hi! My Grandmother was Ida Leinonen born 10.3.1918 and raised in Baraga, MI. (UP) I know she had a brother named Toivo who eventually lived in Taylor, MI.and I've been told that there were other siblings as well. I'm seeking information about her and my great grandparents (John Leinonen b. 1880's). My family is very quiet regarding family history (?) and I have very little family left to ask. Are there any decendants out there? Or anyone with any information? I'd love to hear from you.

Kimberly ktoyes@hotmail.com
