LEINSTER in Ireland

Classification: Query
Surnames: LEINSTER, DRURY, BELL
Hi everyone,

I just recently added LEINSTER to my search list because I believe that one of my DRURY's married into the line. Here's what I've found so far - please let me know if this makes a hit with anyone.

From the FamilySearch feature on the LDS site I found the following references to the LEINSTER name. There are over 5,000 other references, but most of them are connected to the ancient pedigree of kings that is tied to the region of LEINSTER - ultimately these may be connected, but I'm a long way from that right now! There are some others from Ireland and the US, but I extracted only those from County Cavan since that is where my DRURY's are from and the message from Mags cites it as well.

Moses LINSTER - b. 11/1/1740, Cavan, Ireland...d. 7/2/1817

James LINSTER
Maryanne DRURY
married 12/24/1845, Bailieborough, Cavan, Ireland

William NESBITT - b. 1842, Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland
Catherine LEINSTER - b. 1846, Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland
married before 1867, Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland

James LINSTER
Mary PEPPER
...son...Thomas LINSTER - b. 4/2/1866, Shercock, Cavan, Ireland

John LINSTER
Elizabeth BROWN
...dau...Fanny LINSTER - b. 3/15/1866, Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland

William LINSTER
Jane McEVOY
...dau...Elizabeth LINSTER - b. 4/8/1871, Cavan, Ireland
...dau...Anne Jane LEINSTER - b. 4/23/1867, Cavan, Ireland

James LEINSTER
Jane LOUGHEED
...dau...Sarah LEINSTER - b. 12/23/1880, Galloncurra, Cavan, Ireland
...son...William LEINSTER - b. 7/12/1874 - Cavan, Ireland

Then add to that Leslie McKeague's posting about

John BELL
Elizabeth LYNSTER
married 2/22/1856, Galloncurra, Killinkere, Cavan, Ireland.

In addition, the Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) shows a Robert LEINSTER in Galloncurra, Killinkere, Cavan
and a
Mary Ann LEINSTER in Monaghanoose, Bailieborough, Cavan
and
James LEINSTER in Knockateane, Drumgoon, Cavan
and Patrick LEINSTER in Dernakesh, Drumgoon, Cavan

I didn't search for the alternate spellings when I was looking through the Griffith's listings, but I will.

I don't know how familiar you all are with the placenames of Ireland - generally, beginning from biggest to smallest, you begin with the County (Cavan); this is divided into civil Parishes (Killinkere, Bailieborough, Drumgoon, Shercock, etc.). Each parish is divided into Townships (Galloncurra, Monaghanoose, Knocknateane, Dernakesh, etc.). A sometimes frustrating deviation from this in records is when an actual town is listed, such as may be the case with the Cootehill reference, and some Bailieborough's too. Here's a link to a great site with maps to help you get an idea of these places.

Good luck, and if anyone stumbles across a Mary Anne DRURY of Monaghanoose, Bailieborough, Cavan on your journey, please let me know!
