I have a Catherina Leis in my family history. She was born in 1838 in Canada. Her parents were William Leis who was born in Hes Damstatt, Germany and her mother, whose name was also Catherina was born 1815 in Baden, Germany.

The parents moved to Michigan and were among the very early settlers in the Grand Traverse/ Leelanau county area.

My Catherina was one of 9 children living in the 1851 census of Canada West. She was the oldest at 13, and the children ranged in age down to 2. I do believe that there was at least one more child born after this as the parents had a "idiot" male named William living with them in their later years. (possibly a downs child who was born later in life.)

I do know that they both died before 1947, maybe much earlier than that. My Grandma was born in 1914, and I believe she was in her early twenties when they died. Helena of Breast Cancer, John I dont know. If anyone has any information Please Email me. They were both of Ukraine descent I think, at least one of them were. Grandma doesn't remember much. I know she Helena and John had at least 4 children, John, Charles, Dotty, and my Grandma Mary (Baby) was what was on her birth certificate. Thanks.
Mary jane

Solomon Leis

My mother's ancestors were Joseph Leis 1817 of Konigreich, Germany and Catharina kennel of Alsace, France. They had 13 children; I have most of their information. They are:
Noah, John, Magdalena, Christian, Joseph Jr., David, Catherine, Menno, Barbara, Daniel, Jacob, Veronica and Solomon all of them born, lived and died in Wellesley or Kitchener, Waterloo Co., Ontario.

I am decended from Solomon Leis. You have a Solomon Leis with the same birth date, but I have a different death date, spouse and mother. You have his mother as Catherine Roth, instead of Catherine Kennel. Solomon's wife was Anna Roegele and they had one child, Adeline Leis, my mother's mother, who died in 1999 at the age of 100. The parents of Anna Roegele are Fred Roegele and Helena Roth. So there are some similar names, but quite a lot of differences as well.
We have a marriage between Christian Leis and Catherine Lichti 15 June 1875.
Thanks for having a Mennonite resource page on your webiste. It is very helpful.
David Wood dwood11@home.com

Hi Dawn,
After I sent you the 1st E-Mail, I called my father, Ralph C. Leis, Sr. He is 90 now. I was pretty sure you had to be Jim Leis's daughter. My Dad says you are Kenny's granddaughter. Weren't you in school with my son, Jeff Troup at W.C.? No doubt you do not remember me. Please contact me at: c.j.troup@worldnet.att.net. I have searched the Leis Genealogy for about 1 year. My Dad has info back to Germany on certain lines of Leis Leiter. Thanks, Carole

I am searching for information on my great grandmother, SOPHIE LEIS from Germany. She was born in Bundebach, Principality "Birkefell" Germany in 1836 and died in Germany, probably Sobernheim, in 1884. She married Ludwig Joseph Muller who was born in Vallendar in 1827 and died in Sobernheim in 1889. He was an apothecary in Grumbach and they lived in Sobernheim. They had three sons, Louis, Vincent Joseph, and George L Mueller, all who came to USA. I have a photo of Sophie Leis and on the back it says "Her family owned a slate mine." My grandfather, Vincent Joseph Mueller, settled in St. Louis and left me a large book of his Mueller genealogy back to 1500's but only this on his mother! Let me know if you have any information. Thank you!
