I obtained the birth date for Charles Manuel Leland from my family, he is my great-great-grandfather. His daughter, Alice Idella Leland is my great-grandmother. I have pictures, too. Pictures of Charles Manuel Leland and his wife and of course of my great-grandmother, Alice Idella Leland. Do you have pictures of Burton Leland and Mildred Baker? The pictures that I have of Charles Manuel Leland and his wife are over 100 years old now. I also have the names of all of Charles Manuel Leland and his wife's children. Let me know if you would like to see the pictures and if you would like the family history I have of Charles Manuel Leland and his wife and their children.

Very possibly a relative, but I do not believe he is a son of Charles Leland. There is a Sherborn connection though, as the marriage of Burton Leland and Mildred Baker is recorded both in Sherborn and in North Brookfield.

Where did you get birth and death dates of Charles M Leland?

I found a death record for a Charles M Leland in 1905 parents were not listed, but a daughter was the informant and there was an age. Could not find record of birth on initial search.

Seeking contact with descendants of Burton Leland b. abt 1899 and Mildred Baker born 27 May 1898. Interested in sharing information about Mildred's family and learning about her children and other descendants. I also have questions regarding the families of Mildred's siblings and half siblings.

I have ten years research on Mildred's mother's (Smith)family to share. I have access to Ancestry and NEHGS and do not need census or vital record information except for marriage date of Mildred and Burton probably abt 1920 in Worcester.

Thank you for your assistance.
Wanda, my ggm was Lucretia Laberta Leland. She married Charles Henry Dent.
Someone found that her pop was John Lee Leland, and her mum was Lucy something. I have not worked on that line for a long long time, as I hit a pretty big brick wall. I do know that Lucretia Leland died sometime before my gf was 6, which would have been before 1870.
Jackie
fredjacqueline@bellsouth.net
Lelalnd connection to Harbert or Eldred families

Somehow my family is related to a Leland family, just do not know how. My grandmother's family came from Rhode Island: My greatgrandfather was James Eldred born in 1809 in Rhode Island and married to a woman named Sarah. They had children: Thomas W. Eldred, born in 1835 in Rhode Island, James Eldred, born 1838 in Rhode Island, Alban Eldred, born in 1842 and two sisters Sarah and Ann.

My grandfather Thomas W. Eldred married Caroline Pitcher (she was born in 1842 in Rhode Island) and they had children, one of the children was my grandmother Emma G. Eldred, born in 1879. My grandmother Emma Eldred married a man named Lewis W. Harbert (born 1869 in Illinois). They met in Nebraska and married there and had their children there - somehow one of those families has a connection to a Leland family - anyone have Harbert or Eldred relatives on this board?
Re: Lost Leland's

I did some searching and found the following:

1920 Census
George was b. Il, father b. PA, mother b. IN

1930 Census
George b. IL, father b. IL, mother b. Missouri

Fern or Audrey Fern was mentioned on both:
b. NB, Father b. TN, Mother b. Il

You might want to check out marriage certs for Nebraska as it was and is still a habit to get married in the home town of the bride.

In 1930 their youngest child was Dannie C. Leland in Butler Cnty, Ulysses Village. It appears he was born in 1928-29.

According to Switchborad.com There is a Danny Leland living in Lincoln NB 402 438 5676.

My best guess would be to call Danny in NB. If you haven't made calls like these before, before you introduce yourself tell the person who answers that you are not selling anything and you are interested in Leland genealogy...cuts the defenses immediately(usually)

I would be interested in knowing what you find out.

Susan
www.columbusrvpark.net

I didn't find a George born to anyone on the census reports for 1900 or 1910

Re: Leland Hotels

Simeon Leland, Sr. of Landgrove, VT owned the Green Mountain Coffee House. His son, Simeon and brothers, managed the Metropolitan Hotel in NY 1851-1871, the Union Hotel in Saratoga, NY c. 1860's. A Leland grandson managed the Delavan House in Albany, also in the 1860's. Another brother ran the Leland Hotel in Springfield, IL in the 1860's. Other Leland sons & grandchildren managed the Ocean Hotel in Long Branch, NJ, the Palace Hotel in SanFrancisco (c. 1870's-1890), and others.

Simeon Leland, Jr. went bankrupt in 1871 and died a year later, but other family members continued in the hotel management business through the early 20th century,
